A first look at the Casio G-Shock GMW-B5000TVA, one of the most unusual, and perhaps coolest, limited edition square models yet. Music: www.bensound.com Music: Csum (freemusicarchive.org/music/Csum
This is the coolest square Casio has ever come out with. I want one, but I would be too afraid of scratching it up to wear it. At $500, I wouldn't think twice, but at $1700, I just can't justify it.
Even 500 is too much for me. 200-300 is my limit for digital watches. I wont go over 600 for any watch. It is just my budget. Maybe if I was a billionaire maybe.
Agree, really like the look, saw the price and laughed and X'ed right out. No way in hell. I have the full metal steel G-square and I love it, but I bought it used. This thing is not worthy of that price tag. Sorry Casio, I don't see how you're ever making the money back from the tooling you spent for these titanium squares at the prices you charge for them.
Just got my friend to purchased mine in Japan since he was in town. I cant wait ! Price was bit high like everyone says, but I look at it in a long run how much I can appreciate this watch as I use it daily. Im not going to be worried about scratching it . It will add more character to the watch and I will love it even more. I love the overall design and details. Im a fan of GUNDAM so I think this watch has all the unique style.
When I saw the price of the previous Titanium versions I thought it was too much money for a G Shock because I didn't like the designs or the colors, it didn't make sense to me. When this version came out I didn't hesitate for a second to get it and now that I have it I understand everything. It is a spectacular watch that weighs nothing and the details are superb. I am very happy with it.
Definitely spectacular! Looking for one to buy now. What are your thoughts on the 'slipping around' due to being slightly top heavy? Also, do you find that the cutouts for the red rubber collector a lot of junk? Thanks for your input!
It does look super awesome I love the aesthetic . I went down that road with getting the “Tron” metal g-shock which I liked but ultimately ended up selling when the novelty wore off.
If it is a collaboration or numbered piece it might. It's just a normal B5000 release with a special titanium bezel and strap. Now that ali express is offering 100$ value on the titanium replacement, the value of the original one just like the other b5000 releases will decrease rather than go up. The $1650 srp is maxed out. Not worth the value.
You comparing the the original to an Ali express knock off loses all credibility to your argument. Authentic time pieces are not for everyone and that’s okay, just not my method of operation.
@@miguelangelsiller6314 Get the ali-express explanation out of your head if you can not comprehend what i said. Since the release of B5000 stainless, prices of those "pieces" hasn't gone up. The same will happen with these titanium releases. Why? They maxout the MSRP. In fact most expensive G-shock from 5-10 years ago can be bought now at half the price. Come back after 5 years. Let me know I'm wrong about the titanium release. @ $1750 gtfo. You'd be lucky to sell that now @1350 after a few wear Like I said, only collaboration and limited releases are worth buying as a collectible
The DLC coating made it worth it already. I bought this watch hoping to last as my next 20 year watch. it's expensive, but it's not so bad if you divide it by the years you are expecting to wear it. I'm planning this as my everyday watch. In regards to scratches, every dent has its story. It adds more character.
I'm not sure what functionalities make it worth that much money, but a $50 classic square could also last you at least 10 years without the scratches lol.
Nothing justifies it's price. At first glance, the average person would mistake it from a g shock that is a fraction of the price. A thief wouldn't even steal it because they wouldn't think it is worth much.
@@SourStrawberrys valid argument but sometimes the value to a collector like me is the scarcity…We could make that argument for all of the $1,000 plus square g-shocks but the beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The value of these will increase because there will always be a demand for exclusive g-shock watches (even look at the quote on quote basic limited edition ones). And the fact that it doesn’t look expensive doesn’t matter unless your trying to floss and then that’s when you reach for a higher end watch anyways (ie Rolex, Patek, etc…). A G Shock will always be a beater watch regardless of which model it is and when I’m not in my suit or out in a nice venue I grab one of my Gs (including this one when it comes in). Stay safe and be BLESSED!!!
@@kkirk1381 But I don't think, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" applies to this. As I bought the DWE-5600cc-3, a watch that is almost 5 times the price of any other GW-5600 model with the very basic 3229 module that is inside of it. The value of the watch is actually $70 below retail in resell market now, and in some countries it is even more below that. I just bought mines for $200 brand new, when it retailed for $270. But I didn't buy it because I thought it will go up in value, but because it is actually a unique looking model that stands out from the rest of the squares and I like the look personally. (I mean it also is carbon core but that doesn't mean much as all g shocks are pretty indestructible) My point is, not every "limited" or special edition expensive model raises in value over time. Sometimes it drops. Did I think mines was worth the price of $270, no. But for $200 eventhough it is still high, the 3 exchangeable bands (2 pretty unique in design), 2 exchangeable face plate, carbon core material, makes up for it. As for this $1650 one. They can just make it out of the resin material and make it look similar if that would bring the price down to less than $1000. Doesn't need to be titanium.
..But isn't that the whole point though pal being I fed the radar instead of look at me all the time bling bling? The beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I wear mine for best leaving my Omega, Tudor and Tags in the drawer. I know to everyone else who isn't into horology or even Casios just think that I'm wearing a normal cheap black standard G-Shock watch. It's just like wearing a LV pair of trousers and it only says LV inside on the label and nowhere else. But again you know your wearing quality.
ok as someone who usually dabbles in the high horology market. I've been waiting for something like this forever. I understand it may sound ridiculous to pay $1700 for watch that does exactly the same thing as a $200 g shock. But those case finishing, material, attention to details etc. This is such a reasonable price. It's geared towards people who usually pay $1000 just for a rubber strap.
.... Great video pal! Yeah the calculations I had to make was the exchange rate and the import tax! Haha. Glad I got one though it's truly the Dee Bees!
Very cool watch. I liked what you said about some futuristic pilot wearing one. You can imagine how those numbers on the links would help some newbie mech technician service your watch after sustaining damage in a space battle. Maybe, the hapless tech would still make a mistake and then his sarge would storm over and roar "Idiot! Can't even put the band back together in the right sequence with numbers on the links?!"
Beautiful watch and a great video review, thank you. It would have been nice to see an overhead view of what the face looked like with the back lighting though. I know you used the back light, but it didn’t show how clear the information that was displayed on the watch face was, or how bright it was. Other than that it was a great review, especially as you really showed the watch from different angles. I have an iPad Pro (4 speakers) and didn’t have a problem with the audio and could hear everything without raising the volume. Maybe the volume problem for some is the iPad, iPod, iPhone model or other brand of tablet or phone that is causing the audio issue that some have commented on.
Was wondering how you got one, this is supposed to launch next month, then read your comment that this is early sample. Should had mentioned it in the video. On other note, it is now sold out.
I wish they made one plain black, solar, multiband, no writing. The only information to be CASIO (Protection, G-SHOCK) on the face of the watch, and whatever they want on the screw back.
I’m on the fence on this watch … I love it but I’m afraid to have it as an EDC watch and it’s all scratched up within a year. Also looking at the cup half full the scratches and dinks could make it look rouged and cool because of the armor like body.
It is just a DIGITAL watch with Titanium body and bracelet. I think it is not worthed for USD 1.700. By the way, it is out of the "g-shock" concept, isn't it ?
The module Is probable the same as in the steel B5000. So you pay about 3 times as much just for the titanium case. No way I believe it cost Casio so much more money to make it.
Casio is asking stupid money for this, nothing justifies a near $2000+ tag on this, not even half of that. These companies have really keyed in on how the collector market has taken a turn for the absurd in the last decade.
I’m not the biggest g-shock enthusiast but I do find the case and bracelet to be very well executed and quite appealing. Yet, I still think that not having the display inverted was a missed opportunity to a mostly all black square… i will sadly have to modify it to be completely happy with it assuming I do eventually buy it.
I have the steel B5000. But I don't baby it. I wear it at work (where it gets a close encounter against metal sometimes) and on the beach. It's a G-Shock. And I wear it as a G-Shock. Not like a delicate dresswatch.
For nerds with too much money. The watch can't do anything special and costs many times more than the normal models. They have to artificially limit the watch! More customers they can’t find at the price. The same marketing as other brands! Works apparently always. :-)
@@e28forever30 No. Same thing but Swiss is not Swiss. If you mean Rolex, AP, Patek, … these are mechanical watches. That does not mean I like it more. Inside the G-Shock ist a cheap chip without nothing. If I like elektronic I buy a iwatch and with the money I save a iPad. You get only watch functions of the 80s but pay for an super computer of 2021. :-)
@@messeronkel2795 First: there is no such thing as an “iWatch”. You mean Apple Watch. Secondly, you don’t get the point. Go ahead and buy a smart watch, any smart watch. In 2 years time, it will be old news, dated, with an exhausted battery and no longer receiving updates. In other words: rubbish. This watch will still be happily doing it’s job, it is simple in all its functions, but it is built tot be your companion for many years, without skipping a beat.
@@e28forever30 funny. After you wear that G-Shock every day, you will see what you get for that in 2 years. Nerds later only want nos and second hand price. If the watch have scratches you can sell it for 50%. So I can put my iwatch or Apple Watch after 2 years with a smile into waste.
i ABSOLUTELY HATE all the writing on the strap and around the bezel. Love the watch but I have already planned what to do to remove all the excess writing if I could afford one.
I did enjoy this review but what spoilt is that you did not adjust the watch strap so therefore it didn't look well as it should have done because it was not fitted to your wrist so therefore I think the watch look bigger than what it should do because it was always sagging..... As for collectability that's a difficult one because you never know what's a cause going to release next and then nullify the collectability of the previous watch I actually own one of these and I was going to sell it but I change my mind because it's such a good looking and sleek watch
It is a cool watch. But unfortunally its waaaay overpriced. You get sooo many cool G-Shocks for this money. A whole collection in fact. Yes titanium used to be expensive to cut in factory many years back, but not anymore. So its a cheap metal nowadays.
Some Seiko watches come in titanium for a fraction of the price. Sure it will be harder to make than steel. But it's not like you have to grind diamond.
No G-Shock are highly collectible, not even the 1983 original one is especially expensive. And no other is too. G-Shocks pretty much ALWAYS loose in value, in best case they keep the value somewhat.
@@watchdogpodcast239 I wouldn't say plenty, maybe a few. It's like sneakers, it's street culture thing but these high dollar prices for digital watches is rather nutty. Oceanus makes stuff much more worthy of the price and is Casio's actual higher end line up.
@@Shintsu2 Plenty do. The John Mayer G Shock and NASA released last year are still selling on eBay at double the price and then some. Just to name a couple. Several other square models as well. Most Frogman models go up. Like I said, not all, but saying none do is wrong.
G-shock smooth as a dress watch...c'mon, they need to make it with brushed steel...that would kill the sales but as usual Japanese companies don't like profit
The lack of a negative display seems like a miss (to me) on an otherwise perfectly-designed watch. That alone kept me from buying this one. Hoping for another model in the future with that change.
Unfortunately I can barely hear you with my volume turned almost all the way up :( Great watch and I was just about to buy one but I just can't justify $1700.00(w/tax) for a square G-Shock even if it is super cool and made out of titanium. Just can't do it.
