Mr Obiri Boahen, you are wrong this time around with your explanation of the slogan "Asante Kotoko". The porcupine (kotoko) is an animal that can protect itself from the other animals of prey like the tiger and lion because of it's jagged quills. The Asantes could defend themselves against their enemies and win wars of expansion with their military fomation of "nifa", "benkum" "kyidom" and "tiridom". If one wing of the military formation was defeated by the oppossing army, another wing would replace it, till they romped to victory. Thus originated the war cry: "Asante Kotoko wo kum apem a apem beba". (Asante Kotoko if you kill thousands other thousands will emerge and fight on.) The football club only adopted the slogan or war cry to symbolize invincibility.
