For a samurai to be raised sensitive and weak is a death sentence for him and his clan. This is a time of survival of the fittest. Strength and cleverness is everything. Also, as a samurai wife, her loyalty is to her husband over everything, including her lord. Her husband decides which lord he follows. The wife has no say. And as a devout Catholic at a time when that could mean death, she would not constantly be seeking suicide nor would she think of adultery, both of which are mortal sins. In many ways this show is ridiculous.
