that's how a good villain should be though tbh a movie/show/comic stc. is only as good as their villain two of the weakest movies in the mcu are thor 2 and iron man 3 why? because of their weak villians (and ya'll can argue other points of why you don't like them, i actually enjoyed these movies but i think because the villian was so weak/unclear they suffered) shang chi would be a vastly different film if the villain wasn't portrayed in such an amazing way and it's not the other actors being weak, it's that the villain NEEDS to be the driving ore and the whole movie needs to depend on that villain
Tony and Fala's first time meeting and the bus scene were the highlights of the movie for me. I hope they would consider doing a spin off for Tony's character. He was my favorite character and his backstory was way more interesting for me.
SPOILER . . . . . I hope they find him again in the same place Wanda would find his kids, alongside with his wife this time! I think his instinct of his wife being trapped inside the portal/multiverse in the cave was correct. It's the same thing how Wanda can hear her kids voice. If Wanda can eventually find her kids, so would wenwu and his wife. Might be his wife from other universe or something.
Lol see his eye contact in the ending scene of Chungking express... Just youtube it... It's absolutely insane... I have never felt so attracted to a man on a screen like I did with him while I was seeing that scene.
Awkwafina is right 😂 I've never seen Tony Leung let alone knew who he is. From sympathizing because he was so obsessed with his wife, and then I hated him for blaming his kid for the death of his wife, all of a sudden I cried by just looking at his expression before his death. The man projected his feelings really well. I can feel what he felt without even trying. Dude is awesome
I felt so sad when Tony Leung's character died in the movie .... I hope there will be a sequel and that he will be in it somehow ..... can't get enough of Tony Leung .... love him!!
People in the US needs to know, that this is probably one of the most epic Marvel movie just because of the number of A list legendary cast from Asia. Tony Leung and Michelle Yeoh alone are like the equivalent of having Sylvester Stallone and Meryl Streep in a Marvel movie.
Shang-Chi director and producer made the right move in NOT sidelining Tony as a peripheral character. This movie is going to rock the box offices in East Asia.
😁 He's not being sidelined nor being sidelined. He probably has somewhat the same space as other mcu villains. Tony Leung just has huge impact no matter what role, short or long, big or small part he has in movies. 😁
I'm not so excited that this is the first marvel Asian superhero. I'm more hyped and excited that Tony Leung, Yuen Wah and Michelle Teoh are in the movie. Also Fala. They were awesome in TVB dramas, HK gangster movies and others. Really excited to see them in an English movie.
If You guys wanna know why Tony Leung's such a great actor, ask all the Hong Kong actors/actresses from the 80s, like Chow Yun Fat, Stephen Chow, Ng Man Tat, Andy Lau etc Compared to them, the Asian actors/actresses in America we have nowadays are bland, I swear that Hong Kong Actors/actresses worked their asses off back then.
True. Been watching Tony Leung since his Heavenly Sword and Dragon Sabre series made during the 1980s-1990s. There is a difference between people who just trained for the movie/ few years during their movie careers and Tony Leung who has played great kungfu movies since before the main casts were even born 😁
I really liked Tony Leung's early stuff as the Policeman in Police Cadet on TVB. He didn't get paid much then but his acting was so fresh and you can see his hunger in the role to grow. I was glued to the screen then.
@@asiaskymediahk so what? It's not someone who's whatever age they are that's the problem, it's someone who has bad prejudice and tried to scare people as if it's something bad to say their age is the problem.
It makes sense. Michelle Yeoh has been called a legend waaaay too many times and honestly she didn’t get to do much in this movie. Tony Leung on the other hand, wow.
Michelle Yeoh is no way on the same level as Tony Leung. I've been watching Tony Leung since his Heavenly Sword and Dragon Sabre series made during the 1980s and 1990s. He's been on the top of the industry before most of you here were born.
Nope. Michelle Yeoh, while certainly good, is no way near Tony Leung. If you were to call Michelle a legend while Tony's around, that term would've been a damn understatement when put on Tony.
Creating new characters that represent the community, this is it!! Not changing the race of superman or gender swapping characters because of representation.
they did say michelle.. but michelle is well known in the US due to crouching tiger hidden dragon, crazy rich asian, etc. Tony is a complete new face to many US audience.. only ppl from HK knows about him..especially the TV shows he has been in in the 80s.. a cops show where there was 3 sequels.
@@bwc2000 YO! I'm not from HK, I know Tony Leung! He's very famous in Asia! I'm from Indonesia and I watched Tony Leung's Heavenly Sword and Dragon Sabre made in the 1980s/1990s! Through video tapes I rented here in the 90s multiple times! And tv channel here played the series multiple times over and over again during the 1990s and 2000s! Along with his other movies like Infernal Affairs and his comedy with Wu Meng Ta/Ng Man Tat! Then, there was also God of Gambler, etc. Cmon! Even I saw someone from India said they know Tony Leung. Don't discredit Tony Leung like that!
@@mayaparamita2254 I know you love Tony..so whatever ppl say here, ,you will misinterpreted it as negative to tony If there is no direct praise of him. You don't know where I'm originally from or how much I know about him and Michelle, so please don't discredit others ..either way an opinion is just an opinion. They both are legends..like Jackie.
I don't think we need to keep carping on the "Asian representation" bit, especially interviewing them outside of the US. As an Asian, I was always SURROUNDED by complex superheroes who represented me and my culture. I've never felt under-represented. We need to be careful about pushing the narrative that a Hollywood blockbuster and acceptance among Western viewers is the only or ultimate recognition for Asian productions.
I think it is important to let Asians in Asian countries know that in western countries, Asiams are very often neglected. Something Asians in Asia don't understand until they live in the environment. The affirmative action in education completely f-up the Asians. Admission isn't based on merit, but skin color. They long for leaving Asia to live in the US, but once they are here, they know that Asians is the one of the most ignored ethnic groups in the country (the other is Native Americans).
Great movie, but it still hurts that his used that girls laptop as a shield and her paper she was working so hard on was gone!! 😂😂 port thing was like no no no!
Part Chinese only in blood, & more like a footnote instead of something really noteworthy. he wasn't brought up as a Chinese & he sure as hell doesn't speak the language. I love Keanu Reeves just as much as anyone out there, but he'd be a poor representation of the Asian community.
A cast I'm interested in... in a movie I'm not interested in... Tony Leung is a legend and I'm getting more respect for Awkwafina. She did good work in The Farewell with a character I didn't necessarily identify with.
Sun Wu Kong is not a superhero. He's a mythical figure, the whole Journey to the West represents how a person can train himself. But yeah, Shang Chi is definitely not first Asian superhero, such a bullshit narrative.
@@thanhpt0105 Sun Wu Kong is a superhero, as a kid he was my hero, he had flaws for sure, but he fits all the modern definitions one would place on a superhero. He sometimes makes morally bad decisions, same with Ba'Giai and Sha'Ngu Zing. Also most superheroes are mythical in nature, Superman, Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel or as he is known today as Shazam is based off Mythology aswell.
the world government of the antichrist is near but through Jesus Christ we have salvation believing by faith believing in the place where you are. read in the bible Romans 10: 9 and 10 John 14: 6, John 1:12, Acts 4:12
Stop with the "Asian Reprensentation" I've been watch Jacky Chen growing up, then Jet Li, then Daniel Wu, then Kim's convenient. This narrative is no bueno.
Well, not every Asian in every continent is able to watch every Jackie Chan movie in the big screen, as a matter of fact, the first Jackie Chan movie that was played in the movie theatre in the US is Rumble in the Bronx As a matter of fact, Tony Leung is relatively unknown in the US
So how do I dress my kid up to look like Jackie Chan or jet li for Halloween? What super powers can my kids marvel about to look up to an Asian super hero? A lot of most of Jackie Chan’s movies are subtitled, my kids can’t read that fast, thus losing interest, to never watch it again. Shang-Chi checks all of those boxes and more.
I know you're getting annoyed about how hard they're "pushing" Asian representation, but sometimes that push is needed. I remember when Black Panther came out, and everyone was celebrating the cultural significance of the movie (rightfully so). But I never saw anyone complaining about how they were "pushing" black representation too hard. Maybe there were, who knows. But how come this is different? Why Shang chi specifically? Maybe what you're complaining about, is the very same reason this movie had to be made...
@@zoebug Asian Cinema has its own play ground and an impressive one at that. This stupid narrative is gentrification in motion. Inception was a remake from HK top grossing release for one. I'm sure everyone knows that Asia is the biggest continent by land mass and collectively, Asian is the biggest population. So that's enough representation for us cultural enthusiasts.
Thanks, naming actors that made their bones in Asia first before crossing over. How about actors born or raised in N. America that are very under represented? Name a few not named John Cho or Steven Yeun that’s lead a Hollywood feature film without making their name in Asian firsrt?Hollywood has long ignored Asian Americans in their films or represented them in a negative manner or had a white person play them. That’s the point of this kind of representation.
Simu Liu does not have a popular or attractive visage from Asian's aesthetic point of view at all so there are hardly any echoes generated. Without Tony Leung, nobody would buy a ticket to see the movie.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. This life isn't all there is, heaven and hell are very real, but Jesus Christ loves you and can save you. If you will ask Jesus Christ with a genuine heart to please forgive all your sins, and come into your heart and please save you, he will save you and you will soon know how real he is. God bless.
"Indian jealousy" detected. But u have a consolation prize : indians actors actresses very good in dancing, and indian movie producers directors very good in copying : just look at the amount of good Korean movies indians copied from.
