Comedian and actor Russell Brand is facing further claims after more women have come forward with allegations, it has been reported.
“Several women” are said to have contacted The Times and The Sunday Times in the wake of a joint investigation with Channel 4 Dispatches which aired at the weekend and which saw separate allegations of sexual assault from four women.
The Times said on Monday that the new allegations have not yet been investigated, and will now “be rigorously checked”.
Brand, 48, vehemently denies the allegations, which also includes claims of controlling, abusive and predatory behaviour, and said, in a video posted online on Friday night, that all of his relationships have been “consensual”.
Media lawyer Mark Stephens tells TalkTV’s Julia Hartley-Brewer that a police investigation into allegations against Russell Brand is almost a "certainty.”
“While he has the presumption of innocence, it doesn’t stop us talking about matters of enormous public interest. Ultimately the truth will out."

If he was as blatant about the relationship as the interview today implied he was - there must be pictures of them together when she was that age. Brand was nearing the height of his fame at 30 - so probably couldn't go anywhere without a paparazzi entourage or somebody with a camera camped outside his house. That said, even if they did have a relationship - if it was consensual, it would not be illegal simply because of her age or the age difference between them. Of course, if it was non-consensual, that's a whole other matter.

Once it goes straight to court a judge can impose a full media black out. Then it's a team of star lawyers backed by P.I's and contacts everywhere against some inexperienced solicitor. The case gets thrown out via some clever circumvention and then the victims are sworn to silence and no one is none the wiser. That's how the likes of Savile and many others have been getting away with it for years. The imposed media blackout gives more unscrupulous judges and lawyers a lot more leg room to be shady. When the victims come out publicly to the press the whole process is out in the open and all involved are then forced to act responsibly as the process is under the microscope. It's a clever thing to do by the victims if they are genuine but a very silly thing to do if the accusations are found false.

There's an argument that just because something is legal doesn't make it morally right. The human brain isn't fully developed until the age of 25 and I think any adult over the age of 30 has anecdotal evidence of being naive during their teens. To be any 30 year old adult and actively pursuing a relationship with a 16 year old of any gender is very morally questionable. To add into that the 30 year old in question is extremely intelligent, charming, objectively attractive and famous is just bonkers. He had prime pick of any woman or man he wanted to engage in sex with but chose a 16 year old who is still at high school? Make it make sense.

When I was sexually assaulted as an innocent 11 year old I went straight to my Mum who called the police. I'm sorry I just don't understand how these women sat on these stories for decades and then spoke to the media instead of the police and I can't help wondering if Brand was as left wing as he used to be and hadn't been red pilled in recent years if this would be happening at all. There is a reasonable chance that he is being targeted, maybe not by all but by some and he made it easy for them because he's been so open about his past promiscuity. I'm not siding with him, if a court of law finds him guilty he must be punished but part of me also is sympathetic as he has reformed his life and has a third child on the way. He also employs many people. The trial by media must end and let the legal system take over.

@@neilaspin008 sure, and if you can proove rape happened then the rapist will be convicted. But you can't 'believe women' blindly over these things. Quite simply because women (and I am one so have some experience of this)often think that we can make men fall in love with us. Despite them openly declaring that they are only interested in one night stands, we think that if we can 'get under their skin' they will forget all the others and only want us. And when that doesn't work out according to our fantasy we feel used, abused, rejected, trashy, cheap. And SOMETIMES we get nasty and vindictive, seeking revenge for something that, in reality, we did to ourselves. It's even possible that we'll convince ourselves that we didn't agree to a one night stand - cheap sex; it's sometimes easier to believe that we were raped.

If you didn't enjoy it or it went slightly too far, well, you just got on with it and chalked it up to experience. Now apparently one can argue that one didn't consent as one was drunk, or that after torrid sex his then 'attempt to slide it up one's arse' was 'rape' or slapping one around the face with his cxck wasn't actually funny and was abuse. Of course it all helps if the person in question is a multimillionaire celebrity then grifter lawyers will jump on board and tell you what to say. It helps even further if a bunch of elitist narcissistic billionaires in bed with politicians (pardon the pun) want you to shut your fkn mouth as there are far too many people listening to you for their liking, then you have multi tier collusion between state, business and legal. Nothing strange, many women feel ashamed when they are assaulted, fear no one will believe them, or worse that they will be blamed ie they instigated it. It's no different from the men coming forward who were abused as boys, I'm thinking of Barry Bennell and his abuse whilst he was a football coach. Do you find it strange the men concerned came forward years later? Many women have had these things happen in their past and find it hard to talk about if they mention it at all. It seems very odd to me that allegations of this sort would be put out on TV before being reported to police. If the call now is for a 'proper' investigation, why wasn't an official report made first? Whether RB is guilty or not, his defense team now have the golden ticket of making out the accuser's motives are financial and not in search of justice for a wrongdoing. I watched most of the C4 show on Friday, till the point I fell asleep there was only one actual criminal offence alleged and lot of questioning his morals in relation to sex and relationships. The bit about him showing his mate the pictures women had sent to him was really out of place considering an actual r*pe allegation was made in the segment prior, I mean seriously... if you're going to sext a character like Russel Brand is it reasonable to expect he is keeping those images confidential? Is it also damning that a personality repeatedly voted 'top shagger' would invite female audience members of his shows behind the scenes? those women that accepted the invitation did so of their own volition and to this point, have not made any allegations. Including these points cheapens and weakens the overall case, a case that should be treated with utmost seriousness.

I think you need to go and learn more about victimology in sexual assault cases. It is common - in fact, almost the default in sexual assault cases - that victims do not come forward for many years after the assault has taken place. This is seen repeatedly in all manner of cases, and it is bound up with trauma, shame, and the fear (stoked by comments in the same tenor as yours) that the victim somehow invited the abuse. In addition, victims can be shamed into believing that no assault took place by the perpetrator as he tries to minimise/dismiss what he's done. Case in point - several of the women "went back" to Harvey Weinstein or Bill Cosby and believed that they were not victims because they had been groomed/co-oerced into thinking what was happening to them was consensual. It was only later they realised that they had been abused.

I disagree that any of the allegations are credible as of now. Only in a court will that be dealt with. 1) The "text" messages show signs of doctoring imagery. In other words, some of the text is copied and pasted and you can tell because of the absurd image noise in the text themselves, there are also missing time stamps and dates, as well as one date which is actually crooked on the image. 2) If brand did indeed receive threatening emails as he said just before the stories dropped then that to me speaks volumes that this is a complete and utter hit job. 3) They went to the media first. Sorry but I do not want to hear BS about being ashamed or something like that, stop with the cope. Believe all women is a lie, because women lie more to themselves and each other than men do. THEY SHOULD OF GONE TO THE POLICE FIRST. 4) Having used chatGPT for over a year now, patterns form within its writing due to the language used. A lot of the articles read like a chatGPT response. If this is indeed a hit job, they will ultimately have caused more damage to real victims of crimes than anyone else. Which is just sad. We MUST have a law where by the media CANNOT release accusations or allegations of a crime, weaponizing the media should be OFF the table, it is "news" but they have no right to start a trial by media over it when they have their own invested interests in shutting him up. Massive conflict of interest and zero ethics. If it turns out to be false all of it, then the media must be punished. THEY HAVE to be punished for such wreckless behaviour.

Anyone abused should go straight to the police. Once its in the media it is twisted and tainted and unfair. These women have named Brand but it seems unfair that they are un-named. Hopefully should Brand be innocent these women will serve the same sentence he might have got?

Being a father of a daughter myself it was the account of the 16 year old girl that affected me the most. Whether Brand is guilty or not I will not speculate, but I wonder if it is on time that the law for the age of consent be raised to perhaps age 21. I have lost count of how many interviews I have heard on TV from women who say that they felt "controlled" "manipulated" "naive" "did not fully understand what they were doing" because they were "too young." And of course they are right. When we are in our teens we are naive. Raising the age of consent would protect young women from s3xual predators and from themselves. Perhaps some kind of "metoo" movement should be started: #"raiseconsent21

And lets also not forget, women make things up, they make up stories and they tell lies, and plenty of men have been on the receiving end of their lies. Not suggesting these women are lying, but how can they prove RB's mans behaviour or guilt. And no, i'm not a woman hater before anyone accuses me of such but it happens, women do lie and plenty of men have paid the price of their deceit.

My first love was a 32 year old man. I had just turned 16. It didn't last long. But I'm 60 now and don't regret it. Labour are wanting to bring the voting age down to 16. Either we're free agents that know our own minds at 16 or we aren't. I do get what you're saying, but I think it's complicated. In my experience, a 16 year old can be much better off with an older man than a lad her own age. Better looked after - emotionally as well as physically. The alternative to Brand could well have been shagging a boy racer in the back of a car park, out of their faces on drugs and booze.

Russel Brand is an extremely well known actor who was very big in Hollywood at one time. My question is, when all these very famous Hollywood actors were getting outed left right and centre during the me too movement, how did RB manage to get through that period completely unscathed, when all these other Hollywood actors were being accused. If there is so many people he has done this to, then how is it possible, not even one of them came forward at the height of the me too movement, when it was presumably the easiest time to air an accusation. It just doesn't make sense to me

@phoebecaulfield4062
@phoebecaulfield4062 9 месяцев назад
Gillian, you are clearly incredibly ignorant about this matter. It is not just commonplace, but almost the default, that victims of sexual assault and rape, wait years to report. That is, in part, because the victim has been so traumatised by what has happened they cannot fully grasp the event. It is also because the perpetrator is often known to them, and they have been co-erced or groomed, or threatened into silence, or made to believe by the perpetrator that they were to blame for the event or complicit. Many victims feel that they will not be believed - and judging by the comments on here, they are right to think that. What occurs is that keeping that information to themselves becomes, over the years, too difficult to bear, and they start to have to speak about it - to their GP, to trusted family members etc - and they might then find themselves in a position to report to the police (but not always).

@@gillianmay988 Again, you don't seem understand that those who have been sexually assaulted very often don't go to the police. Such crimes are under reported. Maybe because when people do report them to the authorities they are met with people like you who know nothing about victimology or trauma, and whose starting assumption is they are lying. A crime is still a crime regardless how long ago it happened and regardless of who the victim told or did not tell.

If he did what he’s accused of then he should face the full force of the law. The issue I have is these women have gone down the media route not the police, these are allegations that should have been investigated by detectives not journalists, now we have trial by media, which the media loves and feasts on the story until something else juicy comes along that they move onto. They leave behind multiple lives that have been devastated, leave the police in a very difficult position and if it does end up in court the possibility that all this hype will have left those who will serve on the jury already exposed to the story and more than likely some of them will have already formed a prejudice one way or the other. That is interference of the judicial proceedings and may mean either a guilty person getting off or an innocent person going to prison. We all have a duty of citizens to report a crime if we become aware of it, journalists shouldn’t be allowed to profit or pretend they’re doing something in the public interest when they’re clearly not, they’re own reporting shows they have allowed somebody they claim to be a sexual predator to walk the streets for many months without doing anything to protect the public at large because it wasn’t a juicy story at the time. Did these same media outlets not make a massive deal and run stories against the Met for not doing anything about David Carrick despite getting multiple reports of his activities before he was finally arrested? Yet here we are journalists getting multiple reports from multiple women about a man allegedly committing sexual crimes being allowed to go about his life and nothing was done, how many women have the BBC and C4 left vulnerable to attack in that time, how many more crimes could have been committed in that time, all for a gotcha moment.

This is a worrying trend and people on both sides have had their say about Brand but as it stands the Police have not charged him and none of those who claim to have been assaulted or raped have made formal allegations. If it comes to trial I don't know how a jury could be impartial if they have watched the documentary accusing him or watched his own channel refuting the claims. Trial by television is an appalling way to deal with such serious issues.
