@@blitzme99 The U.S. has never had free speech, otherwise, we wouldn't have libel and slander laws along with a fighting words clause in the Constitution, and we also had blasphemy laws that were on the books in some states well into the 1930s even though the last person convicted of blasphemy was Charles Lee Smith in 1928. As a life-long student of history and a future history teacher, it really comes down to an absolute failure on the part of history teachers of the past several decades to properly explain and demonstrate the impact which historical events continue to have to this day.

I had never seen anti-semitism in my whole life I can remember and always thought it was overblown and a way to just attack people for any criticism of Israel. After seeing what’s happening on college campus and lots of other places the last month or two I completely understand now the fear of Jewish people, Holocaust was only 80 years ago. This type of stuff happening on these campuses is completely unacceptable, teaching an entire generation of young people who will have influence and power to deeply hate Jews. Wtf happened to this country.

Where were these protesters when Assad was killing thousands of Muslims in Syria? Where were they when Iran was killing young women for trying to stand up for their rights? Where were they when thousands of Muslims were being killed in Yemen? Pakistan is going to expel thousands of Afghans back to Taliban controlled Afghanistan, I don’t see anybody protesting that. Where were the protesters on October 7th or 8th protesting the slaughter of women and children by Hamas in the most brutal and barbaric way? Why is it they only show up when Israel try’s to defend itself? These protests are just pure antisemitism at its core, and are meant to incite hatred and violence against Jews.

Free speech on campus is tolerated, even very hateful speech, as long as the speech is towards people the college has denoted as oppressors. In this case, many people in the academic ecosystem view Israel as the oppressor and therefore hateful rhetoric is not off limits.

Enjoys the back and forth but doesn't support the freedom to have an ideology that strays from the norm. College is not the place to debate opposing views. Stick to the script!

@@nochepatadaI would agree with that argument if the colleges equally applied this to all groups of people. The problem is if Jewish students were chanting anything considered to be genocidal then they would be kicked off campus. This is evident with conservative speakers on campus, whether you agree with them or not some of these colleges refuse to have them on campus. Looking at students specifically there’s cases of people being denied admission due to their past speech as well as some students being expelled from campus due to their speech. If campuses did nothing about any of these cases they would have a logical reason as to allow this to continue. But they didn’t so now their hatred is on display.
