“We’re resilient," Toronto principal says after shooting at Jewish girls school

Students and staff at a Toronto Jewish girls school that was the target of a shooting over the weekend are shaken but undeterred, the principal said Monday as police continue to investigate the incident.
Rabbi Yaacov Vidal of Bais Chaya Mushka Elementary School said some students were apprehensive about attending classes on Monday but everyone showed up.
“We are united, we’re resilient, we’re optimistic and we trust in God and we are not going to be deterred,” Vidal said in a phone interview.
Toronto police say two suspects fired shots at the school in the city’s north end shortly before 5 a.m. Saturday. No one was injured, though there is damage to the building. Police have released video and images of a dark-coloured vehicle in which the suspects fled.
Police say it’s too early to say for sure if the shooting was hate-motivated, but politicians are condemning it as an antisemitic act.

Probably because while it was a Jewish school that was targeted, (which is worrying by itself) and while there was damage done to the property, there was no human victim. If I’m remembering my admittedly limited understanding of criminal law properly, I believe that something can only be labeled a hate crime if another person is the victim. If I am wrong, please somebody correct me, I would hate to seem ignorant.

Actually there are more Muslims in Canada the Jews in Canada so that technically should mean more voting power. I strongly suggest the community remember how Canadian politicians showed this bias during these times when voting. There are so many members of the Jewish community that are not blindly supporting Isreal and what the government is doing. No one should ever be a victim of a hate crime but anyone who only cares about what happens to their specific community I take issues with.

It could be a hate crime against the Jewish community BUT it could also have been an unidentified person or persons from within that community. At 5 a.m. seems an odd time to fire a shot or a couple of shots at abuilding and then call it a hate crime, or it could be an act of pure intimidation. Better not jump so quickly to conclusions.
