Yes, the Seven last plagues are the Great Tribulation. The saved/redeemed of God will be affected by the plagues albeit indirectly. Those that will have received the mark of the beast will blame the falling of the plagues on the redeemed, saying they are the cause of the judgements of God upon the earth for refusing to bow down to the beast and his image; and so they will have a time of trouble like Israel (Jacob) who feared for his life because Esau wanted to kill him (his time of trouble). As to the why: God would have us fully trust in Him and therefore the Great Tribulation will ensure that happens. When the wicked will be urging themselves onward to destroy God's people, our only refuge will be God (Psalms 46:1, Psalms 91). Our inclinations toward self reliance will have to be purged out. As Jacob realised his unworthiness to receive the blessings of God due to his deception of Esau, so the redeemed will realise their unworthiness to receive the blessing of God because of our sinful nature. But as Jacob focused on the promise of God of blessings upon him, so the redeemed will focus on God's promises to keep them through that Great Tribulation.(Genesis 32-33). The saved of God will be on the earth during that time the same way ancient Israel was still in Egypt while the plagues were falling on the Egyptians (Exodus 7:14... 11)before their deliverance from the yoke of the Egyptians is the same way the saved of God will be on the earth during the Seven last plagues before our deliverance.

@@caroleceres There's Matthew 24:9, I would advise to read The Great Controversy, especially Chapter 39 to get understanding on this particular matter. Do not worry about beginning and "the long way", we are all learning on this upward journey. No one has perfect and absolute knowledge, wisdom and understanding on these matters except God. With the aid of His Spirit He enlightens us His people to Get Ready for what's about to come upon this world and for eternity.
