JacKris publishing has a good writing series for grades 1-8. It's a very good approach in my opinion. It's called Winning With Writing. They also have Growing With Grammar and Soaring With Spelling. The lessons are short and clearly presented.

Could you do another video on how to actually help these kiddos with dyslexia, dysgraphia again? What are realistic expectations? What can we expect in middle school and high school writing? What will we actually be able to over come and what is just a deficit and needs to be accepted and accomodated/adapted accordingly? This is a struggle for sure!

Another great resource we love to connect with chemistry or elemental science is the book "The Story of Salt" for kids. The author has an adult and kids version of the book with the latter having engaging pictures and lots of SS/Geog and History references that can be correlated with science.

A fantastic read aloud book to go along with your bird study is the T.Burgess Bird Book. It's such a sweet story, but also very educational. Thanks for sharing what your son will be using this upcoming year! I always get such great ideas from watching videoa like this. I agree with you on public schools pushing writing too early, so I held back on independent writing projects this year also. My son is also 5th grade-ish with dyslexia. I'm interested to see how you incorporate the Outlining Made Simple book. That may be something I'll pick up and try as well. Oh, and I have another suggestion. You mentioned wanting to have your son go and shop Home Depot/Lowes for material and do projects. I just got an amazing book called Wood Shop by Margaret Larson. It starts out teaching basics like safety, how to use tools, and setting up a workshop. It takes the student from making a tool caddy, a peg board tool organizer and a work bench, to building fun projects like stilts, bird houses, clocks and wooden games. Honestly, I'm really excited to do a Wood Shop class with my son, probably more than my husband is, lol.😅

Yes, I have the Burgess book coming from eBay and plan on using it for our family read aloud. I love the Burgess books. I will do a flip through soon of the Outlining Made Simple soon. And thanks for the Wood Shop book recommendation. I will look it up. Thanks for sharing!!!

Another great kitchen based chemistry to look into is Ellen McHenry’s Dissect Your Dinner. There are sample chapters on her website at Ellen McHenry’s Basement Workshop. It’s a short curriculum, I’m planning to use it before we dive deeper into Guest Hollow’s Chemistry in the Kitchen.

We love The Kitchen Pantry Scientist by Liz Lee Heinecke. Each topic covers the scientist who invented thr scientific theory/topic, had a brief intro to the subject and then follows with an experiment. Some of the chapters include, carbonation, oxidation, extraction, evaporation, surface tension, pH scale etc. Some of the scientists covered: Galen, Alessandro Volta, Marie Curie, Dmitri Mendeleev and many others. There are a total of 25 labs so it'll cover a good portion of the year well. Highly recommended!

Thank you for explaining dyscalculia,my 6th grader may have this learning “glitch”. I use the word “glitch” because I it just a “glitch” and can be fixed 😊 with prayer and the right tools! Anywho we are learning about Birds as well! Can we get a look inside of the Outline book and how you set up the Unit Studies? Thanks for sharing ❤.

Yes, prayer is amazing and I truly believe God has his hand in the progress my son made this year. He is so faithful...we just have to ask!!! And yes, I will do a look through of the Outline book and show how I bring together a unit study. Thanks for sharing!

I have a couple of questions- first how did you get your guy assessed for dyslexia/ dyscalcula when he is homeschooled? I have a fifth grade boy and he’s reading fairly well but handwriting has always been such a struggle and writing is like pulling teeth. He struggles with memorizing the times tables but understands the concept as well. I’ve considered dysgraphia but he’s come a long way and I kind of brushed it off, I have no idea how to have him assessed since we homeschool and don’t really want to involve the local public school. Also how do you time this schedule out? It looks amazing but I have one and still feel like I would struggle to fit all of this in, I am a night shift nurse and work part time and make it work we get through his work every week but I would love to see how you organize all of this! Thank you for sharing 😊
@homeschoolculture
@homeschoolculture 2 месяца назад
@@jacquelinedavis2783 we got him tested at Scottish Rite in Dallas, but your local school district can do the testing. If you’re in Texas I would go with Scottish Rite. You could try searching Dyslexia testing in your state and see what pops up. The scheduling- it usually took us 2-3 hours with me sitting with him most of the time. I will try and get a video out soon on how we do it. Thanks for the questions. Let me know if there’s anything else. 😊

@@homeschoolculturethank you! We are in Ohio, I just didn’t know how that would go if they find an issue with the testing and it is done by the school. I swear I can be at the table for a good 5-6 hours with just one kiddo, he is the king of procrastination 🤦🏼‍♀️

Yes. They do push writing way too early in public schools. My son was dictating in first grade.He definitely was not ready. That's one of the many reasons I pulled him out of public school. I started with Writing with ease level one. He is on level two going into the fourth grade but I have seen growth.

Great video. Thank you for sharing. Where did you get the book studies? Other books for the medieval time period are King Arthur and His Knights, The Falcon of Eric the Red, A Single Shard, Books 1,3, & 4 of the Imagination Station Series, Viking Adventure, Adam of the Road, and there is also a Viking Quest Series (but that series might be for middle school age).

@katie7748
@katie7748 2 месяца назад
@Ren-nu9hw They ARE educational. Very much so. I'm confused why you think they wouldn't be. In case you are wondering, what makes them Christian/religious is the approach. Some Christian curricula inserts God almost as an afterthought, just a Bible verse at the end of a lesson that ties into the subject somehow, while others have Him woven throughout. An example of the latter would be a lesson on seed dispersal and how we have Velcro because someone noticed how God designed burrs. This person thought it'd be a good idea to mimic God's creation. Hope that helps 😊 Edit: a word
