We are a family of four who lives on a homestead in northeast Texas. Homeschool culture to us is living our best life learning whenever we can. My husband and I think it is essential to foster a love for learning, so that our kids become life long learners.
Here on this channel we love to share what we are learning, our favorite books/games/supplies, homeschool hauls, curriculum- the ones we love and the ones that didn't quite work, lunch ideas for those busy homeschool days, and so much more.
@@evegem8978 I don’t believe so! I would just move him into college Spanish if you don’t want him to miss a year. Or start 10th grade and go three years. Hope this helps.
I use excel for my grading/planning as well. We use our binders to store some work but we also use quite a few workbooks and I leave pages in there and go through at the end of the year and decide what to keep. We live in Texas as well, and although we are not required to keep records, I still do. I’m teaching grade 9, 6, and pre-k this year. Love your channel and content! ❤
I put each kid's weekly work in a binder, sorted by day. This is the only method that has really worked to keep my oldest on track. If it can't go in the binder(workbooks), I write the day of the week (M,T,W,Th,F) on the top of each page. I also have a checklist in the binder that has each day's assignments listed, just to be sure nothing gets missed. At the end of each week, I take everything out, grade what needs to be graded, and refill with next week's work.
I have a cart and wish I had another. Love the desk with all the drawers. Need to look into that! Not sure if you made a video on this or not but how do you plan out your curriculum and utilize a planner?
@@amandamendoza4181 Thank you for watching! I use Excel to plan out our curriculum. I print weekly mark off sheets that I keep, so I will have both a digital and hard copy. I think I have a video on it from last year or the year before.
Im not 100% sure if mine is dyslexic but its on are radar so glad I found your channel. My kids have the same interest, I'll be looking these resources up, thanks😊
My son is going into the 6th grade and I’m looking for more independent options for him! Thanks for sharing. We are going to be using Guest Hallow World Culture and Geography this year however there are so many resources that I see it stretching out over the next few years. ❤
Thank you and no I took it down a few months back. We are still getting ready so to speak but felt it was time to not broadcast it. We are focusing on our walk with YHVH and preparing for the upcoming times. Pray you are doing well. 😊
Thank you so much for this! I'm in Texas and I've had so many questions because there are so few guidelines and standards and you've made so many things clear. Bless you ❤️
Well, I can't reply to your reply. I'm going to try a new comment. Our plans changed. Mom's cancer returned, and I lost her December 22nd. We decided the barndominium prices were crazy. We sold our land and bought a house near Huntsville. We're in the never-ending phase of moving. Literally.
JacKris publishing has a good writing series for grades 1-8. It's a very good approach in my opinion. It's called Winning With Writing. They also have Growing With Grammar and Soaring With Spelling. The lessons are short and clearly presented.
Did you ever create a Business Info Management Course? You could do this using the skool platform if you have not created a class as of yet. I would definitely enroll my daughters in your course.
I didn’t. It have bits and pieces from the classes I taught at co-op but just don’t have the time. The course work needed to be truly proficient would be a year long class and I just don’t won’t to put something out there that isn’t enough.
Just an FYI, I noticed you have a certain set of anatomy books on your shelf. 😬 They were written by someone who supports in sessst, pdf files, child grape, etc. I don't care how good they might be as books, I would NOT (especially as a Christian, especially as a mother) have those in my home. They are, unfortunately, quite popular, especially in the homeschooling realm. I'm not judging anyone for having them - just trying to inform people about the author. Edit: Just got to the part where you praised them. Sigh. To each their own, I suppose. As for me and my house, however, absolutely not.
This was a great video!! I love how you have explained things!! I was blessed to have friend with boys ahead of mine😉 For the Act and SAT I was able to sign them up on line and pick a local school. I did not have to call the school at all. This may have changed?? I will be checking the podcast out too😉 Thank you!!😊
I have a couple of questions- first how did you get your guy assessed for dyslexia/ dyscalcula when he is homeschooled? I have a fifth grade boy and he’s reading fairly well but handwriting has always been such a struggle and writing is like pulling teeth. He struggles with memorizing the times tables but understands the concept as well. I’ve considered dysgraphia but he’s come a long way and I kind of brushed it off, I have no idea how to have him assessed since we homeschool and don’t really want to involve the local public school. Also how do you time this schedule out? It looks amazing but I have one and still feel like I would struggle to fit all of this in, I am a night shift nurse and work part time and make it work we get through his work every week but I would love to see how you organize all of this! Thank you for sharing 😊
@@jacquelinedavis2783 we got him tested at Scottish Rite in Dallas, but your local school district can do the testing. If you’re in Texas I would go with Scottish Rite. You could try searching Dyslexia testing in your state and see what pops up. The scheduling- it usually took us 2-3 hours with me sitting with him most of the time. I will try and get a video out soon on how we do it. Thanks for the questions. Let me know if there’s anything else. 😊
@@homeschoolculturethank you! We are in Ohio, I just didn’t know how that would go if they find an issue with the testing and it is done by the school. I swear I can be at the table for a good 5-6 hours with just one kiddo, he is the king of procrastination 🤦🏼♀️
Thanks for sharing! Just a heads up in case you’re not aware - those Science comics are really approachable for kids, but from what I’ve read in them so far, they are definitely not written from a biblical world view. Just mentioning in case your kiddo isn’t used to navigating that in a book yet. We stopped reading them for now.
Great haul, like the clock! My son has learned his time tables with MUSee with the repetition of skip counting. He likes MUSee and has worked well for us so far. Hope the time tables help your kid.
Oh my gosh! My mom has that exact same bird clock! Yes, the hour chime is the sound of the bird shown for that hour. It is pretty cool! We are starting our homeschool year Aug 5th.
Congratulations on 20 years with your husband. We will be starting our school year August 5. I am still slowly getting everything prepped and ready to go. Greetings from Arizona 😅
Honestly my kids have all learned their multiplication facts by having a chart to use. After a while they just remember them and didnt need to look. We are starting Aug 19th. We always try to do some stuff here and there during the summer .
