When this video was recorded, this train was passing stations that were open to the public and in use for passenger trains. No clips contained in this video were recorded from non-public areas. Please do not trespass in restricted areas.
In order to free up track space at 207th Street yard to allow for anti-vandalism security system installation, these scrap-pending cars were transferred to Concourse Yard. This train was made up of damaged R46 and R142 subway cars that are no longer viable for use in passenger service.

It’s really sad what happened to those cars. The R46 set does look like it could be repaired and returned to service, but the MTA will most likely still scrap it anyway since the R46’s will soon be replaced by the R211’s. The R142 set however is even more sad. Not only did Garret Goble lose his life in the fire while leading the passengers to safety, the 110th Street inferno from 2020 destroyed a NEW TECH of all things. I really hope that what happened to Garret Goble is the only time a New Tech train is severely damaged beyond repair, and that no other NTT set suffers such a horrific fate. I mean I know that the R142’s are now over 20 years old and all, but still…

It is unfortunate that the NTT sets are suffering such felony's and crime's which leads them to getting scrapped for nice subway cars. RIP Garret Goble aswell.

There was one incident of a new tech (R143) running the bumper at Canarsie Yard due to a seizure the Operator was experiencing. That accident wasn't too bad though aside from frame damage. Mainly cuz the train was out of service and traveling slowly.

The R46s are 6150 and 6151, both of which were involved in the 2017 A Train derailment. They used to be in a set with 6152 and 6153. Those cars were returned to service and paired up with 6206 and 6207 to make a 4 car set. 6151 was used as a test bed for interior modifications, which is why it has yellow poles. The R142s were involved in the 110th Street fire in 2020 and written off. The other set returned to service in November 2020.

It's really unfortunate what happened to these cars, especially the R142s. I really hope Garret Globe's memory will live on for eternity. He was a real hero for helping passengers during the incident, and I'm happy that Flatbush Avenue has a mural dedicated to his memory. As for the R46s, I knew they wouldn't return since their time is almost up, although the end for these cars and the ones from 2020 is also upsetting. Since 6214 has no mate anymore, it could be a good museum car if it never returns. 6151, however, is interesting; this car was briefly used as a mockup for future orders.

The R142s are like 20 years newer than the R46s, since the 46’s were built in 1975-78 and the 142’s in 1999-2003. The R142s were the first New Technology Train (NTT) to feature recorded station announcements and digital passenger information systems. The oldest of the R142s are approaching 24 years old, but they have like 10-15 years of service left at minimum.

I already know R142 set 6346-6351 was involved in the 2020 fire that was set on a northbound 2 train as it arrived at 110th CPN. Car 6347 suffered extensive fire and heat damage and is a deemed a total loss. What happened to the other five cars 6351-6355? The R46 cars 6150-6151 were I think involved in the 2020 derailment at 14th Street that struck a station pillar. I see a nasty dent on one end of car 6151, but they are repairable, the MTA is just too lazy to spend more money to repair the two cars. The interiors are little worn given that they’re 49 years old. There are now nineteen sets of R211s on the A and C lines, enabling retirement of the first 49 R46s since spring 2024.
@thoseonetrains
@thoseonetrains 23 дня назад
6351-6355 are currently in service doing fine. The actual set that was also involved (6366-6370) returned to service in November 2020. 6062 was the car that hit the pillar at 14th Street. 6150 and 6151 were damaged from the derailment near 125th Street in 2017.

What was the specific accident that led to that R46 set to be scrapped? I am aware of the R142 set fire, but not the R46 set! Edit: Was that R46 set from the A train derailment at 14th St back in 2020 when a mentally disturbed person threw a large object on the track? Or was this from the 2017 incident of where an A train at 125 St derailed due to layup tracks in the bed?

to be honest though if they knew something like this was going to happen ahead of time then they should've just ordered 5 more cars then again they could bring 7176-7180 to the (2) and renumber it 6346-6350, but with slight modifications the original 6346-6350 would now be stripped of number plates and there might be a noticeable difference in 6347's number plates. and as a result 7126-7130 could be sent back to the (4)
@TheRailLeaguer
@TheRailLeaguer 9 месяцев назад
@@TOT3SecondAltThe 2 and 5 require about 360 cars for the rush hour. The initial batch of R142s for these lines were numbered 6301-7070 with 6301-6680 (380 cars) going to the 2 and 6681-7070 (390 cars) going to the 5, with the rest sent to the 4 route to make up half of the fleet there. With the R188 order for the 7 route sending R62As back to the 6, this allowed for the remaining R142As that were not converted to be sent to the 4 route, allowing R142s 7071-7125 to be sent over to the 2 and 5 routes to bolster the fleet there. We have 6301-6710 (410) for the 2 and 6711-7120 (410) for the 5, with the 7121-7180, 1101-1250 (210) making up about half of the 4 line fleet. The 4 also requires 36 trains during the rush hour, so with the loss of 6346-6350 and the subsequent transfer of the 7121-7130 to the 2 and 5, nobody is going to notice the difference. There’s also no need to renumber cars at all. The glaring gap in the numbers is not a big deal. You’re just losing sleep over the most minor issues.
