I grew up when there were individual tokens, paper transfers and the fare was 75 cents. All trains were an everyday urban museum and riders stood in between cars when there was no room. Living back then was more grittier back then. But I also bore witness to all the new modern changes the Bronx has gone through up to 2005 when I moved PR. I was filled with nostalgia and tears when I came across your walking tour video. Thank you. I miss home.

Geez, ActionKid, thanks a million for recording your walk along 3rd Avenue. I lived in the neighborhood a pretty long time ago (1956-61), on Washington Avenue, E 178th St. Prior to that on E 173rd St. between Fulton and 3rd Ave. close to the Crotona Park public swimming pool, right across the PS 4 Annex. From what I viewed in the video, the urban landscape changed for the better. I can recall the rattling of the EL trains as they passed by; although an annoying noise then, I miss all that today. The Zip Code, at that time, was only two digits: 57.

The cold winter day adds a bleakness and solemnity to the area that is probably more lively in summer. It seems like it would be hard to live there now and ever make enough b/c of rent and expenses to leave for greener pastures, but that was the history of the city. The immigrants would matriculate to Westchester, LI, and Jersey. I grew up in Westchester among many second generation families of immigrants. I enjoyed these tours and clicked on many of your links below. Thanks for the tours!

Fearless kid, this part of New York looks a little different. The streets are narrow and the sidewalks need reparing. I can"t believe You walked this much. It looks like it might be a little cold. Interesting, sounds like there is a huge Spanish speaking population as well. Thank you so much for sharing the video. I really enjoyed walking with you. ♥️😉

actionkid105 Good morning and thank you for your response. I'm a native born Bronx New Yorker although I now live in the S.W. part of the country and have been out here for many years. Although my heart is still to this day very much in the Bronx. My Late father and Great Grandfather and Grandfather use to own Parkchester distributors in the Parkchester area there . You've taken a big step ... uh no pun intended in this walking video tour of the Bronx and to me ? I'm glad because it shows us New Yorkers even far away physically? What the city is like today with all of its changes both big and small. Anyway I hope yo get back there for a visit one day soon. I still have some family in and around the city. Some live in Yorktown heights as well as still in parts or Burroughs of the city. Thanks again and take care and be safe . Go YANKEES 😉

Venonous Villain Good morning, Thank you for sharing that information as I was truly unaware of its the Bronx Tale filming locals there in the city. Still is a great classic film on really the mob as to how in ways the Italian American mob did things years ago. For me ? I live in the Southwest region of the country and plan to one day soon go back to the great city of N.Y. Ciao.
@Homcabagui
@Homcabagui 4 года назад
@@LouieV6 You're right about the location, Luis, because Astoria, Queens still had the 50s type of street scenarios. I also read on the Wikipedia Spanish page that some scenes were filmed at William Cullen Bryant H.S., Long Island. I had expected that it all took place in Little Italy.

@vinny57ish
@vinny57ish 6 лет назад
Beverly I agree . I was born in the Bronx but no longer live there. I lived in the Radcliff and Pelham parkway area or near Morris park area. My late Great Grandfather and Grandfather had a distributorship in Parkchester with the name Parkchester distributors there. They no longer have that and those of my family have past on . Although for me ? I still remember the biz. The times and most of all ? The great sights of the area. If I had the wealth and fortune ? I would go back and create the sections of the Bronx like it once was many decades ago but with a strong family base of the likes of the Italians and Greeks and some of the Jewish that lived in the area many moons ago. Now that I'm 61 ? I watch the classic film . A Bronx tale ? And look at those incredible sights like the clothes the cars and the classic old city transit buses that were on those streets even in the 1970's and it almost takes me right back to a time I honestly wished ? Never passed. God bless the Bronx N.Y.C. my home. And thanks for taking on a stroll in downtown Bronx. Grazie.

Me be from Russia and I adore NY hoods. Bronx, Brooklyn... They bear a sign of something oldschoolly vintage, modest charm of bourgeois 20s world... O'Henry, decent humble family life of protestantism, like that. The architecture is outstanding
