I moved to New York recently and chose to live in Queens not only because of the rich culture but because it reminds me so much of my hometown of Boston. It’s like a blend between the suburbs and the city.

This was so awesome. I was born at what was then called, Elmhurst General Hospital in 1958. I have lived in and around this area most of my life, up until 1997. This area was predominantly Jewish, Italian and Irish in the 60's. I have fond memories of it than, but find it more fascinating now. When this video was shot I had already been gone(Virginia) 20 years 8 months, so imagine how crazy it was to see the Pic-A-Shoe, McDonald's and VIM, in the same spot on Junction Blvd. As I post this, I'm going through some emotional stuff right now, but you have no idea how this walking tour of my childhood home has helped me. Thank you so very ,very much.

yep. I live in Elmhurst in the 80s mid-90s, Corona in the mid-90s and now my family lives in the co-op in Jackson Heights. Some of those stores are gone by the way. It's way busyer in the summer. One of the dollar store you pass by has a gambling place downstairs. The only way you would know is to ask why are there people going down stairs?

One of my fav youtube vids. Thanks bro, you reconnected me to my old neighborhoods. Makes me wanna go back to high school days. Excellent quality. BEST part about it is that you let the sound run realtime and keep with the feel of the city (instead of shitty music). Thanks again mate

1:24:00 Corona AV. and Junction Blvd, I was told Corona AV. was an old Indian trail, the Indian village was where Corona Park is now, across from the Lemon Ice King. Originally Corona AV. was called Dutch Lane, Junction Blvd was called Junction AV. and went towards a threshing mill that was up near where LaGuardia airport is now, only 125 years ago Newtown was a farming village still very rural, only around 2,000 people lived in the entire village in 1890.

You can see the tower of Newtown high School at 1:15, that i attended. I lived right down 92nd st. from Corona avenue. What a treasure to come across!!! Oh WOW! Finally a video on an area I recognize. This was my stumping ground decades ago. In my early twenties. Haven’t been back there in soooooo long. Nothing has changed, apparently. But I’m sure things are different there now than when I lived there. Everything is different all over the USA. I mean. Is it just me, but I think there was warmth on earth back then, not the razor sharp coldness of people today. people were friendly back then, not edgy, eager to start a new day, knowing that prosperity awaited for them outside their living room. Chaos, shootings, lootings, and mayhem await for those of this generation. I’m so sorry about that.

Statistically speaking, NYC is pretty safe. (Just avoid the Bronx.) Just exercise common sense: don't walk around flaunting money or uber-fancy/expensive stuff, put your phone away when you're walking (or just don't look at it) and try to avoid being alone in a secluded spot, especially at night.

I used to live there, at least it was clean then, looks like a pig sty, really a shame, it was once a nice place to live.

I will give you a hint at around 1:21:00 you are approaching a gas station on Corona AV. and 94th street, when I was a kid there was a hill behind that gas station, we would go up there once in awhile but they would chase us off because they said it was an Indian burial mound, after I came back from the Army they built a house on it. No respect for anything, really a shame.
