Thanks for the picture quality comparisons, I have this 4K edition coming in my mail soon. I also own the Australian bluray (that is supposedly "based" from 4K) but this new Synapse 4K UHD looks beautiful and much better. Also have other previous betamax, vhs dvd and blu ray releases of this- I've really lost count.
Man this films remasters really caused a toxic mess on the Bluray forum. There are some really aggressive people rippng into the Synapse version and bigging up the TLE remaster. The people actually involved with the movie oversaw the Synapse version, so theres that. Honestly i think the truth is somewhere between the two.
that looked wonderful. the colors really pop. i need this. the dolby atmos probably sounds good too. i got the synapse 3 disc version from a few years ago. from what i saw the new blows the other one away. great review.
I had an early 2000s DVD of Suspiria that came with the soundtrack CD. I’m no expert in video but I don’t remember the picture quality being as poor as this comparison suggests.
I swear the 40th anniversary edition doesn't look that great in this video. Are you sure you didn't mislabel it? It looks like a much older version to me...
Can someone let me know is the usa blu ray remaster different to the European blu ray remaster by arrow video? Or the same. The suspiria blu ray I have looks terrible, but here it's pretty decent. Either way the 4k looks stunnin, must have!
The remaster is much better but it’s not because of 4K nor the WCG. It’s because the scanning equipment is better today and whoever did the color correction for the Blu-ray did a really shit job. Either the picture is over saturated with colors almost smearing or it’s murky and lifeless. It would be nice to see what a regular 1080p transfer of this master looks like but they probably keep it exclusive to 4K to make more money. I would love to have a copy but $35 is really ridiculous. I have the THX DVD. I like the movie but I don’t like it that much! The Italian 4K disc is a more reasonable 20 something but they locked it to avoid foreigners buying it for a normal price. It’s the first region locked 4K disc I know of.
