just heard the news....farewell Nick, thank you for being part of the soundtrack to my life, and for kicking my ass outta bed almost every morning in high school. awesome memories and we will continue to play your music and pass it down the line. RUST IN PEACE.
All those little "ghost" notes in between and the way he kind of swings on the hi-hat gave him a bit of a '60s, Mitch Mitchell type of a groove that's very unique for metal.
True. I tried playing that song, and honestly, the hi-hat pattern is still a bit of a mystery to me and it makes all the difference in the world. Playing it RIGHT is damn tough, and playing it like him is pretty much impossible.
God damn, this is so satysfying to watch seeing that he uses every single inch of the drum set. I want to start playing drums mainly because of this guy. Rest in paradise Nick.
Love how he hits that cymbal like he's swinging a baseball bat at 2:13. Dave Ellefson once called Nick Menza a very manly drummer and its 100% true. Guy was a monster.
I'm not a huge Megadeth fan, but seen them twice when they played this. It's gotta be one of the best metal songs of all time. That was just 7 minutes of pulverizing drums, and the whole crew busts it till it's sick. Amazing compilation.
If you listened to the guitar track of Holy Wars, you'd think, that sounds cool. You add in the drums and suddenly it becomes epic. It's amazing how much the drums help make the music, despite everyone focusing on the guitarists. The bass too. When the bass kicks in on Holy Wars, it's like a punch in the face along with the drums. Good stuff. RIP Nick!

I am a bass player and somehow I enjoy watching drum videos more than bass videos. Nick Menza's are the peak. R.I.P.
God bless you Nick. First thing in music is soul. And your soul is on any Megadeth's song that you played. It is not a drumset following a song, it is another instrument that brings the song alive. You were one of the best rock drummers. Thank you.
Still sad I never got to see this guy live. First Megadeth show I saw was the one right after Dave canned him..I was PISSED. Menza's a legend and this is no exception...he brings the thunder and will always be missed. Rest in peace, Nick.
Nothing better than seeing him wreck the drums with his set!! Even better live, can feel it in your bones. R.I.P. NICK. You definitely will be missed. ;)
His father was a great Jazz Sax player who played some of the best Musicians, Nick had the Musical Genes and blessed Metal w such a contribution. RIP Nick a true innovator.
@@d4rkside420 Megadeth's first drummer was also Jazz influenced, Mustaine tried to do a Vivaldi concerto mov w a live Orchestra and failed miserably, Megadeth has a lot of Jazz changes into their music structure wise, I can listen to Malmsteen's fast straight lines for no more than 6 mins its boring....but every Mustaine solo is engraved in my head.
Great drumming Nick! 🤘🤘🤘 I believe Dave Mustaine was inspired to write this masterpiece after visiting Northern Ireland during its troubled years. It’s a great song. May peace last in Northern Ireland and beyond & May Dave Mustaine get well soon. I saw Megadeth at Sonisphere in England in 2011 & in Kuala Lumpur 2017. 🤘🤘🤘
@@BRMN8R well that's because Metallica didn't even release and album with ron. Megadeth released their two best albums with their original lineup. and Megadeths original lineup was the best
Such a cool guy. I got to hang with him backstage in the early 90’s! He gave me a drum stick and a guitar pick with his name on it! Did you know he played guitar too!? I’m sure you did! RIP NICK
Best metal drummer that ever Megadeth ever had, one best drummers that ever lived,he is deeply missed,we play his music he made with Megadeth loudly to remember him, thanks for the awesome metal music,RIP Nick Mensa😢😎🎸🥁🙏😍😍😍🤘🤘🤘
The third most replayed moment on this video, really a small blip compared to the opening and the cross-arm-crashes, is the drummers' moment LOL. Somewhere in that little blip, he switched from hitting the drums with the back of his sticks to hitting the drums normally. It's just one of those weird little details we notice!
Merecidisima fortuna ha de tener este hombre, me parece increíble que ahora la mayoría de jóvenes escuchen la porquería que hoy suena por todo lado habiendo artistas de este calibre, saludos comunidad metalera del mundo y porque no del universo 🤘
