There are 2 Mataram, The Kingdom of Mataram (Hindu Mataram) and The Sultanate of Mataram (Islamic Mataram). The one that build this temple is Mataram Kingdom not the Mataram Sultanate.

Siddartha Gautama Buddha left the palace and its wealth to live a simple life of equality of all humanity. ..having found enlightenment under the Boh tree. have his teaching of nonviolence and peace pf simplicity. .Having left Hinduism and its influence to these region temples were converted to that of Buddha, and the building of Borobudur remember lots of reconstructions and alterations that could have taken place by invaders and occupations of the colonialist. culture and monuments are made to withstand natural and induced disastors .some survive and others do not. thanks for this great Nation of Indonesia and its people for their culture of preservation and conservation.
No satisfactory explanation for the demise of Java's great Hindu-Buddhist kingdoms has ever really been put forth. There have even been references made by historians to a great depopulation of Central Java. The last of the great Javanese temples is Sambisari dated 966AD. After Sambisari there are no major Hindu-Buddhist temples--but Merapi's great eruption was in 1006AD, so that eruption clearly was not the cause of the end of Java's classical civilization. .
Hindu was imported from India. The original belief was animistic. Islam is always blamed for everything. But, there's the last major religion that came causing so much destruction and sufferings among Indonesia. They even once annihilated almost the whole Balinese royalty. Of course, no one blames it. That's the power of Western media.
I doubt why the Indonesians abandoned their ancestors heritages, Hinduism and Buddhism, and easily accepted Islam. What are the factors of that took place those days?
Well for me disappointed the dual pricing is so wrong 22 pounds to get in if you never been to ankor wat i wouod probably go but you cant best cambidia for temples
You would think so but on the whole that is not really backed up by history. Example : some of the worst damage to Ancient Egyptian reliefs in Egypt, seem to have occured during the Christian Greco Roman era. Bamiyan lasted centuries under Muslim rule until one political sect destroyed it. There are certainly examples such as the Mughal eradication of many Hindu temples in India, but on the whole the application of eradicating such thiings hasn't really unfolded to the extent one would expect. Various things may explain that such as the lack of machinery and explosives until quite late in history to even cause a dent to colossal stone structures, or maybe few Muslims are as fanatic about this as their founding prophet waa in the Ka'aba in Mecca.
@@adsm2663 Just go to Yogyakarta and Central Java. Then, you won't think that way anymore. Indonesia has been independent for over 70 years and the temple still exists!
