I bought this lovely bike 6 months ago as my first one and I couldn't be happier! Good acceleration, can do highway speeds, sounds and looks awesome. This might be the best one to learn on while not being afraid!
Sat next to one of these in the traffic a few months ago, ago, and I noticed that is sounds really good and has decent bottom end torque. Great bike and not just for beginners.
Nice little run from SixPenny Handley to Verwood, know it well. I own one of these, it's a great little beast, only downside is that I find that it bucks and shakes it's head in traffic, 1st gear is too steep in my opinion. Open it up though and wow, it compares on performance to an old 600cc from the 80's that I used to own, seriously impressed.
My first bike 50 yrs ago was a Yamaha.... due to health issues I've been downsizing from big bikes for while and am attracted by the MT03s low seat height, ABS and general quality build. Chinese offerings like Voge 300AC etc were pulling me in but having come across this fine bike I reckon a Yam MT03 may well be the last bike for me! Thank you for the very well produced video!!
I’m 65yrs old and I’ve just bought one. I got it off a friend with very low mileage and I couldn’t be happier! I started out on a Yamaha (YDS7 250) and I look at this as a modern day version of that bike, nippy, light, revvy and just a load of fun and buying it and running it isn’t going to break the bank! Get one, you won’t regret it!
You're not half cracking these bike review videos out mate! 😁 Keep it up. Does make you wonder why so many of us feel the need for big capacity bikes. I'd imagine this MT03 probably does 0-60 in about 5 seconds with a top speed of 100mph.
That's my bike! (Almost). Mine's the 2017 model. I bought it just over a year ago. I love it. Great fuel economy, my ave is 3.6L/100km. I've done 5,600km. I love the dash. I find it a bit too windy on my chest at 110km/h. I've a screen for cooler months. I love the naked bike look. It gets uncomfortable for me after a couple of hours riding. My bottom gets sore. I have felt sick when braking hard, the brakes are that good, and it took me a while to realise that the back brake shudder was the ABS. Unfortunately, I have dropped it 4 times and I can't pick it up by myself despite the 169kg wet weight. It goes down very flat. I just wish it was less bumpy on secondary roads and that my wife could go on the back with me, but that tiny pillion seat does not look comfortable at all. Lately I've been thinking I would like a 50mm bar riser and a slightly higher seat. I get vibration around 5000 rpm which is where it seems to be when in town. I'm a returning rider after 40 years. Occasionally I think I should have bought the Honda 500X but overall I really love my MT-03. I'd love to see a reviewer lay the bike on its side and talk about how easy it is to pick up, and to talk about how easy it is to ride really slowly. Thank you for your reviews. I subscribed a while ago and I enjoy your reviews.
Hi Roger, if you scour youtube you will find several videos on how to pick up a fallen bike and they're usually bigger heavier bikes too, but the principle will be the same. Also, if you havent already done so then maybe consider adding some crash bungs or crash bars to your bike, this will obviously lessen the chance of any real damage but also should stop the bike from laying down so flat and give you a bit more leverage to work with. There's definitely a technique to lifting a bike more easily. Safe riding! 👍
@@andydomanski2876 thanks Andy, yes I've watched lots of videos where a slim girl picks up a Harley etc. They all say to back in to the bike and lift with your legs. I just can't do it with mine. I'm definitely going to get some frame sliders! I did met a guy in a bike shop who claimed that he always faces the bike when he lifts one. I haven't dropped mine since then and I hope I don't!
I am probably about the same age as you, and have dropped my Honda 125 Varadero once. Same bike weight, and it also goes down flat. Had to call my wife to help me get me back onto my wheels. Stay upright!
I've got a RF 900 Suzuki. Bought one of these MT's for my wife...i'm having more fun on it than she is ! Great video too. No BS and quick to the point! Thanks. Greetings from NZ
Thanks to this review I have this exact bike (same colour scheme too) no regrets so far, just an awesome bike to ride for a learner such as myself! In a couple of years I'd definitely like to upgrade to the MT-07 or MT-09.
Got a 2016 model had it 4 weeks now literally brand new with 1,400miles on the clock 5 years old and I'm the 3rd owner low miles in mint condition. Well happy from my YZFR-125 2015
Hi Mark, would you say the current model mt03 is much better than this one? I’m looking to pick up an mt03 however unsure whether I should spend a bit more for the current/newer model. I love your videos! They’re very insightful compared to a lot of other review videos out there. Keep up the great work!
Hi Philip I'm sure they all use the same engine...if I were you just pick up a good used one and save some money ...they are great bikes Best regards mark
After watching this video , in 2021 when I went to my nearest dealer looking for Mto3 , unfortunately had a super deal on Mto3 2019 model , and I knew that 2020 onwards bike got lot of add ons, but still I liked the 2019 model style of dash and headlights, so I booked one , and I really loved it only complain is after riding 30 mins my wrist gets worn out with numbness, and sadly when I installed bar riser the clutch cable is too small for that height, amd had to give up the idea , and obviously I feel some strong JINGLES AND RINGLES exactly in my butt 😅 once the bike does 💯 kmph, I think 🤔 because of new pistons , I hope once it get settled those jingles and ringles may disappear 😂. Well I want to addup finally that this bike is a poor man’s bike , so reliable , so cheap to maintain. Thanks
Well! Never mind the regular "beginners" stuff, valid though that is. I've recently bought a 2018 model, trading in my MT09 and it's lovely in it's Night Fluo colours. The only practical difference from the MT09 is that it hasn't got the blistering acceleration and braking but it's certainly no slouch. And it could still get you in (licence) trouble! Over the last 2 years I've gone from an XJR1300, the MT09, and now the '03. It's much nicer to ride, sounds great, and does everything you need. Lovely, lovely bike.
Think you have convinced me to get the same,,im in the middle of my direct access, aged 48,looking for a cheap reliable fun bike without crazy speed,my ridings in town, country lanes and dual carrigeways, this has all my boxes ticked,,the dreams a triumph bonnie or R.E interceptor,,but feel this could serve me well for 2 years to gain valuable expierience and build up my insurance Cheers there👍😀
I have one myself only dislike is taco hard to see when sun is shining on it and I seem to get more lighting on low beam than Hi beam and in ignition area not much room for one or more key's on a keyring and also I find the bike leans over to low maybe kick stand should be just a centimeter or 2 longer apart from that a good bike
Thanks a lot for the video. Beautiful motorcycle I´m going to buy one for my wife. I am pretty sure this bike brings fun. We are not racer it will fits very well even for smaller persons.
Which bike did you prefer? The mt03 or the Honda CB300R? I’ve just gotten my license and looking to get my first bike. I will be doing majority city riding and the occasional leisurely rides in the mountains. Any other insights to these bikes would be much appreciated!
Hi Philip...the mt03 is zippier with a bit more power but I actually preferred the Honda with it's single cylinder....I found it generally a nicer ride and the riding position fitted me better Best wishes mark
In what year was this one built, 2017? I am considering/(almost sertain) this could be my beginners bike. I'm not a long girl (±1,66m ..) and you pointed out everything in your video i was hoping to hear. Thanks you for that! Apolagies for my English. Greetings from the Netherlands!
It strikes me that bikers have never had it so good. I owned a Suzuki GS5OOe for a few years as my second bike and, on paper, the MT03 would seem to be a modern equivalent. Yet in the real world, on the road, the Yamaha is so much better!
Hi Mark, would a bike like this suit a heavy rider? 120kg plus? Or would you have other recommendations for a first bike for a new rider. We have license restrictions in Australia too. My husband is getting his learners in a few weeks so we’re doing some research on potential bikes to buy that suit a big fella.
Hi there yes it would be ok but he would be big on it as it's only a small bike maybe have a look at the Honda cb500f or x model as these are a bit bigger and brilliant in my opinion :)
correct i agree.. i have a month old yamaha r3 2019 & i am sooo inlove with it.. but if this mt03 is in the display together with the r3 then i will have a really hard time to pick which one to buy.. the r3 is more agressive & has much nicer sporty look.. but this mt03 looks verstile & can be a daily service.. also looks stunning.. can't go wrong with both the r3 & mt03..
¡Buen video! Bonito panomara :) At Latin América we usually consider this kind of bikes as a middle range, I own one too, just a 2018; basically it's the same bike. I've rode more than 550 KM in a single day (350 miles) I've had a lot of fun on it, this bike gives you 300 KM by a gas tank (186 Miles), this bike works fine riding two persons on it on a long travel, it has good HP, so you can have good speed no matter a steep road. I love it.
Amigo estoy considerando una mt 03 pero no sé que tan cómodo estaré en ella mido 1.83 y peso 120kg, lamentablemente no la tienen en la agencia así que no he podido sentarme en ella para sacarme de dudas, agradecería tu respuesta.
At this rate of production Mark you'll run out of bikes to road test by March!!! I wonder if Yamaha would consider a MT03 Tracer GT sort of light weight adventure type bike competing with the likes of the RE Himalayan and the 500 Bennelli adventure?
picking this bike up tomorrow from the dealer, just got my learners permit (victoria australia) first bike and very nervous about riding it home. Will need to take some highways and busy roads to get it home. any advice for riding this bike?
Hi take it easy and welcome to motorcycle riding ,take it steady on the tyres for the first 100 miles or so to allow them to scrub in all the best mark
same here.. but i love my 2019 r3.. it is so nimble & comfortable for a long ride alrhough its a sports bike.. but it's much better if i can choose from both of them in the display showroom of yamaha & see which one really is best looking bike.. but i think both of them are great bikes no matter which one you pick..
i found mt 03 bolt and nut used in the exhaust connecting the engine is badly made. just about 11 months all bolt and nut rusted badly. any conment on my view
yes unfortunately some nuts and bolts they fit to bikes are not that resistant to corrosion ,especially if you ride through winters with salt on the roads all the best mark
Interesting that nearly every reviewer always says the smaller engines are for newbies or first bikes . I don't agree 100% after having loads of bikes including litre bikes i'm now of the opinion that a litre bike is a waste of time in the uk and these smaller 400-600cc are much more user friendly for every day use and are more than enough to loose your license . Just my opinion .
Agree with you on this Richard ...as well as these bikes being very popular with new riders they do make great fun run arrounds for experienced riders too ....I've had loads of 1000 cc bikes and I'm currently having just as much fun on the 125cc bikes I'm reviewing at the moment getting around the cold mucky roads of Dorset at the moment...the triumph 1200 hasn't even been out lately All the best mark
Not my bike Paul ,I test rode it from Yamaha , nothing really negative about it ,just a great little bike for someone who is new to riding All the best mark
back in my day if you had a bike that produce 40 bhp its a powerful bike .any bike that can do a 100 mph is plenty fast enough. the suzuki T500 and GT500 only produce 44 bhp.. if you think 70-80mph is slow try getting off then you'll see how slow you going.
Hi they are both brilliant...neither is really better they both have their plus and minus points...I wasn't too keen on the sloping seat on the the z400 so it's mt03 for me Best wishes mark
Stunning looking? Not when put next to the new Ice Fluo color scheme, which makes these good looks, look somewhat bland and ordinary. That Red/Grey/Black combo for the win!
I can't see them selling in the UK. It's not available on L plates, so after paying a grand for a bike licence who will go and spend 5k on this ? It's for the Asian market surly ?
In Canada our insurance measures above or below 500cc for cost of coverage. No cc restriction. License costs $5 for handbook, $10 for knowledge test and $30 for road test.
Indian bike market sucks!!! 2019 is going to end and still 2019 r3 and Mt 03 are not yet confirmed. I need to buy one of these real quick. I just cannot settle for Honda or Kawasaki. ONLY YAMAHA CAN REV MY HEART
Hi ,yes you could definitely do 1000kms on this but not in a day ,im sure you mean over several days though..have a look at the z400 too all the best mark
@@markpulling12 thanks heaps my son will make 1000kms trips from QLD to NSW what's a good bike for this I just don't want him getting something that will be hard on him do you mean a Kawasaki Z400 thanks
he said in that the motorcycle starts at little over 4.000 in the uk, in brasil it starts at over 23.000 for the mt 03. and i thought the uk had high taxes, gotta love governments stealing from the population through taxes
Hi Jay you can tour on any bike even a 125 ,but it won't be as comfortable as a full tourer ,yes you will be able to sit at 70 ish mph no probs on this ,and 200 miles in a day should be doable All the best mark
