Test rode one yesterday and have bought it in the same colour (Cyan) that Mark had. Really fun bike which has a superb engine and handles very well. Could have gone for the SP version, but for an average rider like me, the standard bike is more than adequate.
@@markpulling12 The SP for a heavier rider (> 80 kgs plus riding gear) who loves spirited riding up and down some serious mountain passes (in the French, Swiss, Austrian and Italian Alps) as well as attending track days in the fast group - my recommendation 😊✌️🔥
@@JoeStanek-vu7rlThought about it before pulling the trigger. As I don’t need the SP, and like the grey on the Cyan, that’s what I went with. Black is boring and the blue is ok, purely subjective. See a lot of Cyans on the road so I’m not alone.
Well done Mark, you’ve literally posted this review at the best time as my brother and I are both looking to get MT-09s. Fantastic review as always, TEKKY 👍
I just bought a gen3 SP. The CP3 engine is absolutely brilliant. I put a steering damper on mine, much to most of the forums dismay. But for me it tightens up the front end a bit as its very light and now it still agile but a bit more compliant and surefooted.
The base model must be the best-value bike there is. A quickshifter as standard is a surpise at that price. Why can't all marques provide one? Excellent review, Mark.
Not only that, you get cruise control as well as navigation... I mean there's plenty of much more expensive bikes that don't even have features close to this.
it's a great spec alright, but i'd say that the new 750 hornet at roughly £3k less with performance not too dissimilar is better value. asking nicely gets you a sports pack including QS thrown in foc, all personal choice of course, but i could do a lot with that kind of saving. GL
There's a small crew where I live with thirty bikes between them. Passionate lot. One of the bikes is an MT07 and none of us ride it, not one. We all think the engine's great, but the handling and riding position just don't work together. It's never ridden and just sits there. That said, I need to try the MT09, great review.
Gorgeous bike. Studying in slow speed the swingarm and frame et al look very high quality to me. Too much tech for me but pricing spot on. Great review as always also enjoying ebike reviews
I am not generally a fan of naked bikes but must admit this bike seems to be one heck of a machine. Awesome power, great handling, decent economy, and personally I like the looks...Have Yamaha hit a sweet spot?
@@Motoxlight No, I decided to wait until next year and see what the situation looks like then. I have a Gen 3 SP so I’m not overly anxious to get the upgraded gen 4 version. The new bike would only be sitting in the garage all winter as I have a winter commuter, I get about on in bad weather.
A couple of observations from your review, there have been a number of engine component changes as well as the frame has been tweaked to add strength of flex where required. The front visor isn’t standard and neither are the tank protectors. I have a SP on order. My only gripe with the bike is the use of the rubber brake lines, even on the SP.
Nice review Mark, did you happen to ask Crescent if they remapped it for the full exhaust? I ask because the fuelling sounds excellent at low revs and small throttle openings.
Hi just spoke with crescent No remap work has been done Rides absolutely amazing...all good. No flat spots ...just incredible performance but you would still get more gains with the remap Cheers mark
Great vid Mark, what about the warranty and insurance with that decat system fitted? I have to say I love the look without an ugly end can, think Akrapovic need to work on that!
Hi all good with warranty.... crescent wouldn't fit parts if it voided the warranty...they recommend telling your insurance company about parts fitted Re looks I think it looks better than the horrible standard lump exhaust that it comes with under the bike Personally I like scorpion exhaust with a neat little end can Best wishes mark. :)
Hello Mark, amazing video as usual. You covered all the information I was wondering. I still want to ask you 2 more... You mentioned there is no engine heat even when you wait at the long traffic lights? The other one is can you tour with this bike because I am really considering to buy this bike but can I really use it for long distance touring? Thank you!
Hi I didn't notice any heat even when stopped....you could tour on this it's comfortable...but it would get a bit tiring and windy after a while...a tracer 9 would probably be a better bet for long distance Cheers mark
Great review Mark. These Yamaha MT series still out perform all the rest, under the fun factor, and the latest iterations are even more refined. When you review the latest MT 10, I would love to hear your comparison views and impressions between those two bikes. Cheers, Gord
@@markpulling12 Thanks Mark... Which, in turn, also means the MT 10 will be a bit more stable and planted on track at very high speeds. But that's a completely different kind of fun. Gord
Yeah I'll pick my 2020 z900 over this all day every day. I'm sure it rides amazing but I don't need all the extra tech and honestly that styling is not for me. Still think the z900 is one of the better looking nakeds on the market even though I do agree it BADLY needs a refresh to stay relevant in this segment.
I ride a 2023 Z900 SE, which has a look that I like. I don't like the tiny headlights found on so many other bikes, though I'm sure they are great in other ways.
the lively front end is part of why i didn't like mine. (2021 gen). now on a '23 Hayabusa the front end is solid as ever. Night and day differences lol. Like i get people like wheelies, but i want the front wheel of the deathtrap im riding to at least feel like it's going to stay pointing straight and on the ground. The way you jiggled the handlebars around at 14:18 gave me memories of mine and how i could jiggle the bars at high speed. just felt unnerving. interesting that the new model is still an MT09 at heart lol.
Great review as always, as another Speed T 1050RS owner (new from 2018), i would value your thoughts on reasons to own this (or maybe the MT-09SP) instead of the 1050RS and reasons not to swap. In considering something a little lighter and more maneuverable at low speeds i have tried the 765RS and the new Speed T 1200, however my heart is still so much in love with the 1050RS. For reference i also have an ADV350.
Hi Tim thanks. Yes I had the same thought to swap my 1050 rs for the mt09 one day but tbh it would just be a change for change sake rather than anything else....I know the mt09 feels and is a little lighter but every time I ride the 1050 the engine is just as good as the yam ....so for now I'll keep my triumph....maybe in a few years if it develops problems...the mt09 will definitely be bought:) Cheers mark
@@markpulling12 Thanks Mark. This has been one of a few bikes i have considered and truly value your thoughts. Maybe one day Triumph will bring out something that i won't be able to resist.
seems a great machine, and i wouldn't rule out getting one in future, but i just don't like coloured wheels, IMHO they look tasteless and gimmicy. when i sat on a bike in a showroom with some last year, the wife who knows less about motorbikes than i do laughed, said i needed to act my age (60's), and asked me if i really wanted to be seen on something coloured like a kids toy. i assume the colour is an option as i like the turquoise flash on the tank, but suppose at the end of the day it's a matter of taste.
@@liqd eh?? it seems like you who must be so insecure as to be fixated on the gender thing as i didnt mention it, never entered my mind, i commented that IMO coloured wheels look more 'playstation generation' than classy, but if it suit's your millenial mindset to think otherwise, go for it, but maybe put down your mobile phone, and re-read first. GL
I have a 2019 mt09sp. I think it might be time to update it. But the standard model or the sp is the question. The sp will be over 20K Australian which is the price of a street triple rs. The standard model is over 2k cheaper. Worth the extra $? It was worth it buying the sp in 2020, but I also bought it on sale as the gen 3 were about to arrive.
Nice review Mark. Is the throttle snatchy on the MT-09? I have a 2002 ZRX1200R and love the smooth on/off throttle characteristics, of course it is a carbureted engine. I also have a 2023 ZX6R and the throttle can be a bit snatchy if I'm not careful with the inputs, but overall I love that bike's fueling/throttle response as well.
@@markpulling12 That's great to hear. I know a flash and tune can resolve a lot of fueling/throttle issues, but I prefer not to have to do that whenever possible. I had an MT-07 and really loved the character of that bike's engine. I think I would probably love this inline triple's as well. Gotta test ride one and find out.
8:16 "so we'll start her up" Appreciate your reviews, but I already heard all the journos talk about the features months ago. I only want action footage and subjective opinions.
