I'm 68 years old. When I was 10 years old I saw a Gold Star parked and the owner came out of a shop and saw me gawking and sat me on his bike. That one moment led to over 55 years riding and racing motorcycles. Sadly due to being on blood thinner medication my riding days are done. Had this not be the case one of these would be in my garage as soon as they become available in the USA. Thanks for a great review.
Thanks Mark for another splendid review. Your formula works well for any bike that you ride and I always come away with the information I need after watching your videos.
Great review Mark, as always, beautiful looking bike in a true retro style 👌 the clocks are a throwback to British bikes of old, nice touch, I think this would be a great second bike.
Thanks Mark...really like your reviews. This bike's a winner. And the "scrambler" version I saw (on YT😀) was a bike that would open up even more of a market. Including me. The engine sounds wicked and a smooth thumper will attract all sorts of riders. It's beautiful too. Subjective of course...but hey...just look at it!!
Love the clocks, sound, exhaust line as it wraps around the engine, great mirrors, enough tech..pin striped tank is ace, beautiful and great to see the BSA... single cylinder sounds just great... fabulous review Mark, thank you for entertaining us 😀⛄ x
Terrific review from my fave RU-vidr. I’ve owned a few bikes you’ve covered over the years and you have always been spot on (IMHO) so if you say it’s a good bike. It’s a good bike.
@Super Cub London Cabbie SCLC Ithink he's just got lazy with the reviews, compare the two videos, Marks has way more information in a shorter time, well thought out, a good format. TMF,s latest tour videos are just 15 mins of on board from one camera pointing out views you can't actually see, he said in one video he couldn't be bothered with the faff of editing two or more camera footage, in that case I can't be bothered to watch.
It has a stylish look. Very retro and unique. Today's market just needs this kind of bikes. Overall I like it. The clocks look so strange to me, otherwise a very nice bike. Would love to ride it. By the way great review Mark. Keep it up.
@@longjonwhite I didn't say they swept anticlockwise I said they use " reverse sweep " . On a standard clock the speedo sweeps from left to right with the starting point of 0 mph being on the left hand side of the clock , the BSA sweeps right to left with the starting point of 0 mph being on the right hand side of the clock . In the future I would advise you to read a comment a little more carefully before you reply as trying to be clever will sometimes backfire upon you ..........
Great review Mark. The new Gold Star sounds like a great bike. Modern, efficient with good performance and fuel economy, good steering and braking, it's obviously hard to criticise. Must check my money box next year...
Nice review Mark...as usual ....I am liking this bike more and more I especially like that black colour scheme I have to try one but I am seriously considering one !
I've had a few retro Triumphs in the past, Bonnie, Scrambler etc. Really like this one and fairly priced for what it is. Thanks for a splendid review Mark. Ride safe man.
Another great review Mark, it was nice to see you today it's been a while. I think they have done a great job with the Gold Star certainly attract possible Interceptor buyers.
Nice review Mark... You know I think India are producing some really nice machines at the moment, I particularly love these old style machines, especially the big singles. I really love this one, my only negative would be the weight, I think quite heavy for single cylinder machine, but that won't put most people off, I love the sound of the big single cylinder bikes, I I think there will always be room for retro bikes, even the young generation who didn't grow up with them seem to love them... Great stuff Mark 😊
@@allah___maadarchod I'd say the bike doesn't feel heavy at all to ride, far from it. Can't say it felt heavier than my RE350 classic, just a lot faster. A less "substantial" exhaust sytem would reduce the weight and I've no doubt they will soon become available.
Thanks for the review, liked the height mention, as a 5'6" to know that this is a feet on the floor is a big bonus, some low seats are not necessarily feet down, and the comfort after time. Loved the realistic expectation of your review, we are not all riding on a track 😃
Well excellent review Mark Glad you like the bike and was waiting for you’re review as per !! 😊 I did put a deposit down in August so I’m not worried now I’ve watched a couple of reviews especially yours Love the bike and style and due to test one soon Well done for a great review ! 😊😊😊😊
Well done Mark, I really like the look of it. I'm taking one out soon. The lowdown pull sounds right up my street. I did see the production model and thought it looked great. Watching this has made me look forward to getting out on one. Great video mate 👆📹
First class review Mark, you always cover the important things for me. Well done on clock description, start at 1 o'clock, others seem to suggest they are reversed which isn't really the case. Planning on changing my Meteor 350 next year, a little too slow for me. Like this bike and the new RE 650 models comming out soon, it's going to be a difficult decision, any advice welcome.
Absolutely brilliant. What a looker of retro bike. There are some good ones coming out of India these days. Let's hope they can get the spares and dealerships set up to support this product as it sure looks like a winner 👍. I hope we see this one out here in Malaysia at some stage and without the exorbitant import tax on it. Nice review Mark
“Just bought myself a new GS” I can see their faces now! 😂 Two things I remember about the BSA stand at the NEC last year were how well turned out these bikes looked - the colours and the style absolutely popped - and also, just how busy the stand was - totally rammed when we hustled through. Unfortunately, this type of bike wasn’t really on my radar at the time so I didn’t really study them in great detail but, as soon as I get a free Saturday, I’ll be nipping down to Dearden’s for a closer look - at this and their Guzzis 👍
Great review Mark and sounds like a bike that performs well at the speeds we ride at on the road. For me torque and not bhp is the route to riding nirvana so I would seriously look at this bike to add to my stable of 3. 👍
G'day Mark from Australia, l have been waiting for the release of the BSA 650 here in Australia the moment that happens my order is in, having owned a 1950s Gold Star l love the idea of the update model with more punch than the older 500cc, I think it's going to be pricey in Australia might put a few off, but if your into the classic look it's one of the best, cheers mate, Neil 🤠.
You are lucky man ! Even detail looks great and perfectly harmonizes with the other elements of the motorcycle. There are no items taken at random on the whim of an accountant.
I think you and the Missenden flyer are the 1st to review this bike i saw his video yesterday, I didn't comment on his video but they do seem a nice bike, though I know this bike doesn't need one, but a screen would be a good option. A great review as always Mark, see you on your next one 😀
As usual, Mark, a succinct review. I love a single cylinder engine. The thump, the torque. My relaxed style of riding makes torque much more important to me than horsepower. I have an RE 500 classic and love it for it's sound and it's power band but not for it's vibrations, especially above 50 MPH. . I bought an RE interceptor 650 for it's smoothness and freeway capability but I prefer the 500's styling and character. What to do? This looks tempting to me. That hideous radiator, though.
Great review, the best I've seen so far. The bike looks gorgeous in black which seems to make the large radiator less noticeable than with other colours. No centre stand ?
Needs a center stand. Bar end mirror option would be nice. Heated grips option as well. The radiator needs to be trimmed to the frame. Looks like an after thought. Hope they come to the U.S. I’d love to try one.
Lots of doubters. People say they would do a Norton, that it would be poor. But I saw an interview with the guys behind it. They are motorcycle fanatics! Good job.
I like the sound of the low-end torque. It is what you need. I like this bike better than the RE Interceptor. Sounds like a smooth engine with good town manners. I can't abide surging. Rare to find a bike with absolutely no surging, so I'd take this. I can imagine if BSA has finally got its act together that this bike will sell really well.
I luv it, and I'm in the market. I'm 70 and I sold my Cbr 1100xx over a year ago and I'm missing riding. I had a Yamaha Car 650 back in '79 was so much fun! This looks a lot of easy fun too.
Love the looks , it so much like the real bsa, but hard to hear the sound, my brother got picked up for work by a collegue who had one, the sound is what made it so attractive to me with its looks
Mark, another entertaining and informative review. Interesting to see if BSA will make their way to the USA. And if they truly wanted to pay homage to the past the bike would have Lucas (aka The Prince of Darkness) Electrics😂
Love it, possibly my next bike. Centre stand would have been nice. A super plus is the first valve clearance check on the Goldstar is at 24k service unlike the RE interceptor which is every 6k. Excellent review.
Hi , a nice bike and this is the third watch by other testers , with every one saying it is very smooth , and goes well . Lets hope they make ago of it . Thanks Mark ..😄👍
As we finally had a nice, sunny and warm(ish) day I took out the demo model courtesy of Moore Speed Racing (Bournemouth/Poole). Sadly the roads were still wet so couldn't play too hard. Initial impressions were it's "okay" but nothing special. There again I was filtering in traffic and being extra cautios as it wasn't my bike to crash. What I would say, as someone who rides lots of bikes (Vintage and modern). The BSA is incredibly "natural" to ride. You just get on and go with absolute confidence. No nasty surprises. Once I got out on the the dual carriageway I was very pleasantly surprised. 70mph no problem at all and gets there surprisingly quickly for a retro single. Somehow I was lucky enough to find a private road ;-) and she went up to 90mph with ease. Felt like she would have kept going but the bike was not run in and I was wearing an open face helmet ! Wind blast was pretty much what you might expect for the style of bike so you'd probably seldom ride the bike to it's maximim speed anyway. After my little jaunt up the dual carriageway I took it out on the country lanes (around Lytchett Matravers for the locals). Those roads are narrow, twisty and full of pot holes. Wet leaves and little rivers from the melting snow cossing the carriageway. All of which made for less than ideal conditions. The BSA coped amazingly well, good breaks and loads of torque really helped. I'd suggest these roads, along with sweeping A & B roads are really the bikes natural habitat. Though I could actually imagine riding on motorways (at a pinch) as she was fast and stable enough. Though why anyone would want a to ride on a motorway when there's so much more fun to be had an A & B roads is beyond me. All in all. The more I rode the BSA, the more I wanted to ride it. If a retro bike is your thing then I'd 100% recommend giving the BSA a test ride. Indeed I was so impressed. I bought one. Niggles: Well there has to be some. Nothing major but going down into first is just weird, not a problem in as much as it does it with ease, just feels odd (as I believe another reviewer mentioned) I'm not entirely sure if it was the lever or the type of clutch (I'm guessing not slipper) so I found my muscles tightened up after a while. Adjustable levers (or just some slack) might help. I'm about the same height as Mark and I would have preferred the bars to be a little higher and nearer but that would probably be easy enough to sort. One more thing... There is a little baffle plate in the silencer that is easily removed if you want a bit more noise (It had presumably fallen out of my test bike) ;-) but the extra noise wasn't obtrusive.
Many thanks Dave ...glad you enjoyed it ...you summed it up well ...shame that plate had fallen out of the exhaust lol 😂 I was out on my hunter today ..which you must test ride...and got filthy too ...the roads are still mucky Best wishes mark
I rode the test bike at Moore Speed Racing in Poole a few days ago. And then paid a deposit on a Highland Green version. Nice bike with plenty of normal riding go. Great engine and just nice all round. Sure you can find a few things that could be improved but why do people buy a BMW GS and for example fit a comfort seat and different footrests etc. For the money think the BSA is pretty good. Hope to get it in March 🤞
Great test drive info, I also purchased a black one after a test drive, pick it up march 1st., everything felt so good, agree with everything you said. but think I might go with the drop bars look, dreaming of the 60s, lol
@@awesomeappleby5923 Probably worth keeping an eye out on the Moorespeed Racing website (the place I've ordered my bike from). They are actively producing a whole host of aftermarket parts for the bikes including a replacement speedo mounting bracket, to angle the clocks.. New exhaust and silencer, Smaller rad and quite a few cosmetic bits.
Awesome review and I love this bike but unfortunately not available in Canada for now, hoping it’ll come in a near future. The image and sound quality when you ride is very good, what camera and mic are you using? Thanks for your good work👍
I much prefer the RE Interceptor, better looking, cheaper and also with a good support structure in place in the UK. It will be interesting to see how things go next year when production versions of the BSA start to become available in the UK. A leap of faith IMO to think of putting a deposit down on such a new venture. A pleasant review as usual Mark, thank you.
Come on Mark not a very balanced review is it you have basically given it a issue free ride completely egnoreing many of its short Cummings that have been well documented by other bloggers I realise you want to keep the doors open on the dealers you borrow from but for your reviews to have credibility it needs to be completly honest warts and all see the mindful motorcyclist for example !!!
Good review, as always, thank you Mark. Regarding the bike, it’s intriguing. Positives appear to be the engine (though you didn’t mark it down a point for imperfect fuelling) and torque it produces, smooth and relaxed ride and decent brakes. Build quality could also be a trump card. Negatives for me appear to be its slightly porky, sounded no better than Enfield’s new Hunter 350, lacks a centre stand and rear grab rail (not a deal breaker) and unsure about the stying with that oh so prominent exhaust pipe. It’s not cheap but not expensive, either - hence why I say it’s an intriguing bike. If I were interested I’d want to know other information such as the dealer network, accessories and whether or not those spokes are stainless.
Detailed review, thanks for doing the slow speed throttle response; it's a bug bear of mine so it's nice to know it runs so well, cheers Btw, if it has the torque and rides as well as you say it does, Royal Enfield have some genuine competition
the sound of a thumping single ( which i have and love ) is i once read due to our tenure in the womb ! yeah really all you can hear is your mams ( im from Yorkshire) heartbeat ! we also love steam locos dont we thanks Mark a good review of a good bike 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿 i
Another great motorcycle review. If I was 10 years younger I would consider getting the new BSA. I still have my 2009 RE Classic and 2019 MASH 400 which I thoroughly enjoy riding . These bikes will see me out. Good job BSA well done
@@henry9406 Hi, Yes I'm emotionally attached to the RE as I have always wanted one since the 1970s. When the 2009 Classic came out I treated myself . I also don't put many miles on it. When I put it back in the garage after a ride, I give the bike a pat! How daft is that! Still the new BSA is a stunner.
Good review .saw them at n.e.c in flesh quiet nice looking machine.only critism is radiator .the fuel tank pressing on edges.fair price like clock .finish looks good for money hope it does well might buy one in May
Great review, looks a fantastic bike and very well priced. Haven't seen one on the road yet, wonder how many have sold? If only Royal Enfield had used similar clocks on the Super Meteor 👍
I would pick this over its rivals, the Royal Enfield 650 series. This is by far the most retro-looking modern motorcycle.. Love its engine looks.. Thanks Mark..
Just watched this again, Mark. Eagerly awaiting the Scrambler, not that I'll buy one. My Buell is going back on the road and will be my two-wheeler when I get back to England next spring. Nick J
@@markpulling12 I have been hit with double taxation as the grasping Portuguese state are taxing income I already pay UK tax on, so I'm selling there next April and riding back to Yorkshire on my Can-Am having couriered my XB12X back before I set off. Thoroughly sick of Portugal, anyway. For nine months of the year, I'll be in northern Thailand: SCR950, 390 Duke, Aerox 155. NJ
are you sure ? there was more motorcycle manufactuers in the 1950's, Scott, Geaves, Francis Barnet, James, Royal Enfield, Vincent, Velocatte, Triumph, Panther, Rudge, A.J.S, Aerial, J.A.P. , Dougless, all English.... dont forget the Europeans.... BMW, MZ, Jawa, Ducatti, Zundap, Moto Guzzi, etc etc etc.... and lots more i havnt mentioned, dont forget all the American bike too....
I’ve a RE Classic 500 which I love, but I do a motorway stretch on my commute and always worry that I’m thrashing it. This looks like it could be a solution . . .
Hey Mark, thanks for the review. Can you confirm whether the rims are steel or alloy? Pity they aren't tubeless rims. Gear lever looks a bit crap. A GT touring tank would be a nice option.
Hi the bsa is more powerful and torquey for sure ....but I love my little hunter ..its perfect for me ...think of the hunter as a scaled down bsa ....a bit lol 😂
Hi I Robert yes I've seen those but not reviewed one ...I actually sent them an email the other day to review some of their bikes ... I'll chase it up Many thanks 👍
