It is our privilege to present another famous Rhaetian railway to you - The world heritage listed Albula Railway. With it's 55 bridges and 39 tunnels, it is one of the most spectacular narrow gauge railways in the world. The centerpiece is the 5866m long Albula tunnel, which at 1820m above sea level, is the second highest alpine tunnel in Switzerland.
Our journey starts in Chur, the terminus station of the SBB normal gauge line from Zürich.

For someone who likes nature and the mountains in particular, this is like a meditation. Only the tunnels are so narrow that they inspire a slightly claustrophobic feeling.

We were over there riding the RHB for a week. We were in an organized tour, but they have day and weekly passes that I think were reasonable prices. At the time, the Swiss Franc and US dollar were close to on par. Food at coop was reasonable as well. It was worth every penny to travel on that wonderful railroad. Summer was beautiful, too!

I am Chinese. Although China has the longest railway network in the world, there is no such beautiful scenery along the way. After watching your video, I realized that there are still such beautiful railways in the world. I want to wait until the epidemic is over. I am Swiss. I was in China and very impressed by the high speed trains. The technology, cabins, the service, the friendly people and the modern and clean train stations. It was very impressive and amazing. That speed!

Dam I like this video. It is about my 4t time watching it. I am an old fart 74 my dad worked for the Union Pacific. Spent summers with grand parents where trains ran all the time. It brings back a lot of memories. THANK YOU for the trip to Switzerland.

Die Mutter aller Modelleisenbahen! Die Trassierung in diesem schwierigen Gelände - es beginnt schon mit der Verzweigung kurz nach Domat/Ems - ist schon sehr gut gemacht, denn mit Normalspur würde es schon unglaublich aufwendig werden. Besonders eindrucksvoll, wie kurz der Wendetunnel nach Filisur gestaltet werden konnte, weil die Topgraphie des Geländes perfekt ausgenutzt ist.

I remember doing this trip 25 years ago on my way to Pontresina when there was a Club Med village. It was such a nice trip and scu a see sight. I had family in Switzerland near Léman lake.

Couple of questions: This was filmed in February? Good weather for February. You have very few reflections on the glass where the camera is, particularly considering the direction of the sun. How do you manage that? Its usually almost impossible to film through glass without reflections without an elaborate setup with screens etc.. Thanks for an excellent video

The first track of the RhB was build by Holsboer , Chur-Davos , a Dutchman ho made a lot of money with shipping , his wife had to go too Davos for her health and there was no railway in that time , it took hours to get from Chur to Davos . So he and a few other man deside to build a railroad . After that the Swiss build the rest of the tracks . It is stil unbeleveble how they could build these tracks those days without the technics we have today .

Hi LoriRocks,Wonderful ride, very informative very enjoyable, yes beautiful scenery as well. Looks very cold there when you recorded it. I'm in the U.S.A(southwestern) desert. I'm texting this on 8/29/24 as we are nearing 110 degrees yes it is our summer season. Don't know when you recorded this ,but it seemed the higher in elevation the more snow there is. Here we are still running our air conditioner to stay cool. Ultimately I loved it all and look forward to other cab rides.

Great video, but I have a question: on my TV, the quality constantly changes from nice and crisp, to what looks like 240p res. Like I'm talking every 6 seconds it goes from high res to low res for a second or so then back to high res. Is anyone else having this issue? I only seem to get this problem with cab view videos.

Очень интересное видео! Ярчайший пример того, как должна выглядеть узкоколейная железная дорога. В этом видео интересно всё: виды, открывающиеся на каждом повороте дороги, сооружения - мосты, туннели и противолавинные галлереи, даже шпалы, которых на момент съёмки можно насчитать четыре типа - деревянные, железобетонные, стальные обычные - образца 1930-х годов, и диагональные "эпсилон". А в начале путешествия - трёхниточный путь - для движения узкоколейного и стандартной колеи подвижного состава. Также интересен тот факт, что при идеальном состоянии железнодорожного пути и подвижного состава, даже на узкой колее можно развить скорость до 90 км/ч. В России и странах бывшего СССР также много подобных красивых мест, например, в горах Кавказа или Алтая, где такие же железные дороги украсили бы ландшафт и привлекли много туристов со всего мира.

The switch to the winter scene was necessitated by the camera overheating. It allowed shift that seemed more interesting.

4:45 You really can see the massive difference between the two gauges with the left-hand rails between the Standard Gauge(outer rail) and the Narrow Gauge(inner rail). If you saw the Victorian dual-gauge tracks, the gap between the inner and outer rails(Standard and Broad Gauges) is much narrower.

Frage zum Drei-Schienen-Gleis bei Chur: Wie ist es mit der Oberleitung? Funktioniert die Oberleitung bei beiden Spurweiten oder wird bei Normalspur mit Diesel oder Akku gefahren? Danke für das faszinierende Video. P.S. In Bergün ist ja eine große Menschenmenge zugestiegen.

Die Oberleitungsspannung ist immer 11kV( ~RhB). Die Normalspurzüge fahren mit reduzierte Spannung.
