★ How to Regrow Ginger from Store Bought in Containers (Step by Step Guide)
Today's Project Diary Video I will be showing you how to grow your own Ginger using standard store bought supplies. It's taken me many tried to master this growing technique but I've finally figured it out and will show you all the mistakes I made along the way to hopefully stop you making the same ones.
► FACTS UPDATE: It seems that the mention of Brexit has upset a few people so here are some links to hopefully educate you on these points. I did not want to make this political, I was just explaining why regrowing some foods this year would take a little longer.

A bit of a hint- if it is chilly in your home you can use a germination heating mat underneath so that it has the warmth you need. Also, if you are using grocery store ginger, rinse it and soak the rhizome with honey, willow branches, aloe Vera gel or aspirin as a natural rooting hormone.

It's really useful to see the progress (or lack of) detailed, rather than skipping to the voila moment which so many people do. Another cracking show!

Hello! You just appeared on my YT recommendations. I’ve stopped the video less than 2 minutes in to say WOW! New subscriber (probably a little older than your grandad! I bet he’s proud of you!) And to hear your common sense take on the bare shelves situation and that monstrous act of national suicide that is Brexit. I keep saying our only hope is you youngsters. Now to settle down and watch this. I’ve got my ginger from Sainsbury yesterday and I made all ready to go. So glad you appeared ! And well done. A grandma! x

I love your enthusiasm in these videos! I am so excited too because my ginger sprouted on the kitchen counter and now I’m going to plant it today according to your instructions. If you can, we’d love an update on how to harvest ginger and how to keep it alive in cold climates through the winter months.

Now I can learn from you. I nursemaided mine last year, had lot of rain in Northern Ireland, relied on neighbour to push Ginger to back of deck during rain, gave up on him as lost potatoes to blight after trying everything, last thing I thought of and it was, yes, blight! Live in Ireland, where was my brain, usually having hellish migraines in bed! , Ginger was on more protected deck rain or shine not relying on unreliable neighbour, every minute I was able to I was willing it and Turmeric to grow. Did I get anything, no! Sent friends daughter lives Row of terrace houses outside Probus very wide pavement, looks like houses had small gardens. She's grown so much. She had so much Ginger, Turmeric, people asking to try, it looked beautiful, suddenly realised she had none left of her own organic to grow for this year! We laughed, she'd a huge harvest in Containers I used breathable bags, she'd great crops of everything. Me, I'd nothing. As health not good, managed some potatoes, didn't get round to sending of for organic Ginger and Turmeric. Potatoes looking good. Now waiting on stool to sit at kitchen top to cut veg and my very own potatoes for my veggie Curries! Got a lump of Ginger not washed yet as Sun Lounge hot on coolest day, as windows uncovered, I'm giving Ginger a try. You've inspired me, and I don't have to try to walk way down garden to look after it. Thank you for letting us see mistakes, and your right, every video I watched said what to do, not what not to do! That is very important as I've just learnt from you! Should have taken my sons advice brought it into Sun Lounge.

Oh my goodness, God lead me to your channel today. Yesterday I planted some fresh ginger and did it all wrong. After seeing your video I have a chance of getting some ginger this year. Last year my ginger developed very high leaves but just a bit of actual ginger developed. But, the ginger that did grow was amazing with a much lovelier flavor than store bought. Thank you and God Bless and keep you safe and healthy.

Excellent! I have three pieces of store bought ginger in pots right now and, like you, waiting for them to sprout is a mission. But as you point out, patience is the key. Down here in Johannesburg the temps are are already in the high twenties so I'm hoping my ginger will show itself sooner rather then later. Again, good job.

Hi Lee, good to see you again. Definitely I'll try the bigger piece this time as I failed before by using smaller pieces. Ginger here in Sydney is tremendously expensive, general cost is about A$20.00 per kg, but some months can be A$80.00 per kg.

@ironrose888
@ironrose888 2 года назад
Yikes that’s expensive! Here it varies as to where you buy it. At the Asian market, it’s locally grown and it’s $1.99/lb. I can get other locally grown veggies too. At the regular grocery store, it’s tiny and shipped from somewhere else and it’s 5.99/lb! I make an excuse to drive further to go to the Asian market. It’s just a 45 minute drive on way 😬

Thanks so much! I just subscribed and wish I'd found you sooner. Yours is the 1st ginger video I've seen that is realistic.I live on the east coast of the States. While the summers have great heat for the ginger, fall, winter and early spring are too cold. Brought them all inside onto heat mats at a south facing winter. Tumeric is proving much more difficult and requires much patience. Most videos make it look like a piece of cake. Not so.

Namaste. Your excitement is contagious. To keep ginger fresh, bury the rhizome in slightly moist sand and place the container in a partially shaded area in your beautiful garden. Thoroughly, wash and clean before use. Repeat procedure with the remaining rhizome. Here's wishing you the best of health. Adieu.

I got a piece of ginger from a local Asian supermarket where I do most of my shops (it's much cheaper and I have seen the prices going up in the likes of Tesco etc plus I am lucky to live nearby) last year and planted it outside in peat free compost. Thank you for showing this video, I know about the supermarket Ginger being sprayed with sprouting inhibitors, so haven't tried to grow it. I live in Devon in the UK, so not the best weather, no south-facing area in my garden, so another negative. It is December here now and a couple of pieces of Ginger were sitting my my kitchen, I went to throw them away as not good to use and was very surprised to see that 2 shoots were growing, so I put them in water and then into a pot in my kitchen, watched your video to see if I did it right and I think I did with what you advised, once again thanks.

It is nice to see the slow growth from someone else because as you mentioned, a lot of other videos are "here is my root, BOOM here is my plant, BOOM, here i am eating it. If this fails i will try again in the spring as temps warm up.

I would have had more success this summer growing ginger outside in a huge flowerpot if the squirrels had not unearthed it multiple times. I finally resorted to using big pieces of jagged mulch and stones as a top dressing to make it uncomfortable for squirrels to step on. Rather than harvesting it since it got off to such a late start, I left the ginger in the pot outdoors. Perhaps it will come back if the winter here in SC was mild enough.
