Honestly Glenn...Line 6 should pay you bro. You make the BEST demos of their equipment that I have ever seen - bar none. Great tones and great playing. Really gives the viewer an idea of what is possible with this unit. Thanks.
@extremevideopro I would agree that they really updated their hardware so there is more power i feel like the way they used it didn't change much. Thanks again for the review!
@extremevideopro Just to clarify, the HD series doesn't have 10x the processing power--it's actually like 1.3x or 1.4x compared to the X3 if I recall correctly. What Line 6 has said is there's 10x the amount of information in the modeling. Looking forward to my HD500 arriving so I can put it to the test...
@extremevideopro added for 900lbGorilla.... the GT-10 is also nearing the end of it's life cycle. The HD is in the beginning. Plus if you have an amp that only has line level FX loops you can run the HD using the four cable method without resorting to a line level shifter because of that line level/instrument level switch. It's the only floor unit I know of that has one.
Thats a real awesome tone dude. Can't belive how good these hd pedals sounds! Damn that tone at 09.14 blew my mind!!!! Your videos actually was one of the main reasons that i bought my Hd pedal so thanks alot and rock on!
@gwugluud Let's take for instance the analogy of animation and HD animation, HD animation refers to a substantially higher rate in resolution than previous animations, in order to observe this you will need an HD enabled monitor. That is the same idea with the amp modelling, the amps were recorded with HD equipment in order to capture the sound in HD. Changing or adding Effects is like changing the lens of a Camera the lens doesn't effect the quality of the picture or whether it is in HD or not.
wow!! that sounds incredibly good!!! (especially the dr Z patch). are you using an amp? (or are you plugged in a computer or something??) thx, and keep on posting, I love your vids ;)
@extremevideopro yup that's what you said, but the manual seems to imply that both the left XLRs and left 1/4"s will output a live amp tone and both the right XLRs and right 1/4"s give a mic'd amp tone. notice mono appeared twice there. from what you said, it's more similar to what the pod x3 can do. we could send stereo signals into the mixer by XLRs and stereo signals to 2 amps via 1/4"s. i've double checked my pod x3 live manual section 7.5. the pod hd doesn't seem to do exactly this though.
@extremevideopro thanks man apreciate it i would assume the cab models are based on the amps well anyways great demo man this new POD sounds Analog and way better then the others
Glenn, I have watched and listened to all of your vids and you are very cool! A fantastic guitarist and a great speaker. Thanks for the information. I am definitely getting one of these new HD500 PODs. They are a fraction of the cost of an Axe FX or even an Eleven Rack unit. Line 6 comes through again!
being a multi-musician,a gun for hire as it were,i can tell you first hand that most of the songs thats played do not require distortion. in guitar work, whats expected is a enclyclopedic knowledge of chords, low key time and modulation effects. a lot af clean well define playing is the norm. no hiding behind overprocessed over loud noise. its good disipline good interpersonal skills and good playing that writes the checks
HD if you need amp modeling, M9 if you just need effects. I use an M13 on my worship team. Great spacey verbs when we are in quiet worship and serious crunch tones when we get loud. The Hd's have all these effects in them you just can't pick the order or stack reverbs (except on the HD500). Since many contemporary worship songs are OD-Boost-Delay, you should be ok either way.
No it does not include recording software. You can download patch editing software from Line6 but you will have to get your own recording software. Reaper is an inexpensive yet very powerful recording software.
@gwugluud I think the videos on the Line6 website will explain my point. Otherwise I recommend you refer to a signal processing and electronics handbook when you take a look at the math of an fx pedal and dirt box you will see that there is no correspondence to the the sound output quality, all though a poorly designed signal processor may give a sound that is not aesthetically pleasing it is not necessarily bad quality. There is a difference in Modelling and processing. The amps were modeled.
@gwugluud effects and dirt boxes is signal processing, so the "hd" quality is dependent on the signal received. Thus, the effects and dirt boxes cannot be defined as high definition. It will be the same as to call an Intel Core i7 CPU a high definition processor... HD doesn't apply to effects and dirt boxes, or delays or any other type of signal processing
i just wanted to show you my appreciation of your videos. There is know one on the net who shows you how to set up these Amp Modeling ubits like you do you explain it very well. I remember you showing the Boss GT-10 and The Line6 POD 3 it was great . So Thanks and Rock On my Friend :D
Couple days ago new POD HD firmware 1.20 appeared, awesome firmware, i'm so glad, sounds MUCH better then old one! If some one want to listen it before install I got samples on my page
@r3mi2k8 I've looked at both. I've decided on the 400. Why? The 500 has a ton more features, yes. Will I use them? Probably not. Thanks, Glenn for the demo.
Incredible demo... I still think Line 6 should make a flat tuned power amplifier for their POD line. The idea of the DT50 is nice, but just the tube power section from it wrapped in a pretty little Line6 case would be even better. That way I could go from my Line6 Pod, to my Line6 power amp, into my Line6 cabinet (loaded with my own special blend of speakers, of course). It doesn't make sense to have a POD product and a Line6 cabinet...without having something to amplfy them both.
i know they are a little out dated now but for what ya paying theyre a great little unit. i use one in my cover band and its a breeze. kinda wanna helix tho!
Yes just press hard on the toe position of the pedal. If you have it on carpet you will really have to pres very hard. On a hard floor though it comes on pretty easy.
hey glenn, i think there is an error with the information with regards to the output mode at 4:30. the dual mode actually does this according tot he manual: routing the LIVE Mode signal to the left BALANCED and UNBALANCED outputs and a great sounding mic’d amp tone to the right outputs. This allows you to send a mono signal tailored for a guitar amp, while simultaneously routing a mono mic’d cab signal to a mixer or recorder this is different from what you said, which is what the X3 Live does.
I know you just got it but well do you have an opinion of what you'd go with Boss GT 10 or the POD HD 400? Maybe the 500 would only match it's features? Right now I Have the POD X3 an happy with it but for some reason I always can't help but look at that boss an had no idea that line 6 came out with new PODS! Thanks reviewing this Glenn you'll always know how to use everything so helps my confusion on some of the features etc lol.
@extremevideopro can u have the effects pre or post? and can u turn off the cab model? and would this sound good running through a cab instead of a pa system?
Hello there...another nice video as what you did before... A question here : I'm using the VOX valvetronix VT30 amp...If i plug the HD400 in to my amp, i am using the amp modelling on my VOX amp or using the amp modelling in the HD400? I think its like the podXT right? Once i plugged the thing into my amp...i'm only using the speaker in my amp..the preamp of my amp is bypassed...using only all preamp modelling and EQ's in HD400..
hey. you said that you have there a b c and d channels and each one is for different effects such as distortion, delay, etc. does that mean that i cant have 2 different distortion channels? cant i have like a channel for rythm with distortion and another channel for leads? help please, im considering buying one of these! thanks! (:
Michael I may have been in error by saying that but I know the iLink goes to the DT amps but I can't find any documentation on synching 2 units together. Sorry.
hey glenn..i have a hd400 but i cant use my wah effect only when i connect through pod hd400 edit through my computer i cant use it otherwise. And also if u could tell how to change from vol to wah on pedal with out being connected to the pc.
Hey Glenn...I liked your sound. Thanks for this video. I purchased POD HD400 recently and updated the firmware as well. I downloaded some patches from CustomTones and loaded those to my PHD but these downloaded patches sound louder than any other factory preset. Moreover, I can't hear most of the factory presets clearly even when my Amp volume level is way up. Please help me sort this out.
@extremevideopro Hmm I see...well the 300 doesn't have an Effects Loop, but neither did the pod X3 and XT lives and you could plug external pedals into those. Is having an effects loop on one of these the only way to get it to take an external pedal?
Thank you, very well played and made! I like how they have decided to focus more on quality than quantity with their amp modeling (not saying that the old amp models weren't good). Would you still be able to use the dual-FX/amp feature like the X3L has? Cheers!
Keep in mind now the M9 is like having stomp boxes that you use with a real amplifier. It does not have the amp modeling that the HD units have. You would probably be better off with the HD500.
POD is the way to go. If you play in bigger settings with nice PA's then this is the bomb. I never carry an amp anywhere. Use the POD as an amp and run OD's and other junk into it and it sounds awesome. I Use a Fender Tele Deluxe '72 into an MXR Classic OD and Boss OD-3 into a POD X3 Live then direct out into PA... absolutely amazing. and sound guys will love you. haha
Great demo, thanks! I was wondering if you could comment on how level matched the various amp sims are. The problem with the early PODS was that the volumes of the individual amp sims were all over the place. So it made it very difficult to use live because as you changed patches the overall output level of the unit changed. Even if you spent a lot of time trying to balance the level of your various patches it never seemed to carry over to the live scenario.
Hi glen. I am totally amazed by your knowledge and your effects. I have a question. I wanted to ask, which one would be the better option for me Hd 500 or Hd 400. I am a very basic user, want something that works for me live on stage and also for recording and jamming with the band. for live on stage I dont have an amp so I normally would plug the device directly into the PA system, so which one would give me a more consistent sound, in terms of volume settings, etc.
hey glen, great vid. how easy was it for you to dial in your'e tones compared to the GT-10?I have my set up simimular to your's on the gt10 . so i create 4 patches and then use the 4 control pedals to bring in the effect that i want, simular to the g-system.is this also possible with HD500?
@extremevideopro Hey Glenn, I've used your X3 patches which were great BTW. These X3 patches always had a comp after the amp. The tube comp in the HD comes closest IMO. I read that it's not really necessary anymore to put a comp behind the amp. Haven't tested it enough to have an opinion yet. So are you getting an HD500 soon. Hate the fact that I cant use your HD400 patches in the 500. I've downloaded the editor for the 400 to check how you've set these up. ;-)
@extremevideopro WOW 5 minutes!! so getting a good sound is easier than the 10? faster? How much better are the amp sims than the 10?and are they anologe sounding? noticed the clean up when you lowered the volume.do the sims really react like real amps like they say they do?
Hi Glenn, I'm enjoying my HD500 very much. I think it's got much more of the real amp feel and sound than the X3. Btw, do you still use a comp after the amps and which one?
@extremevideopro You are so right, and here is the thing. I've listened to the Boss gt10, and I liked it, but it didn't really convince me. The distortion was too hairy and fuzzy, and I don't like that. When I heard the Line6, you could clearly hear a big difference. Someone suggested I give the Line6 a listen, and I did and they were right. I also Hear line6 pod, was actually first in amp modelling, and I didn't know that.
you mentioned that you were on a crunch patch and turned you're tube screamer on by going to manual mode. so can you creat patches, asinge effects to the pedals and go back and forth between preset and pedal mode?? and on the 400 can you clean up the amps and a clean messa setting for example??and how noisy is the machine???
Hi Glenn, great video... I was wondering if may be you can help me out. I brought a digitech rp500 about a year and a half ago. It was alright at first but now I sense it lacks "punch"... it sounds too digital and the distortions are weak. How would you compare this pod to digitech? Sadly, the music stores where I live don't carry pods so i would have to buy it online without trying it out, it's a gamble I know, that's why I want your advise... thanks!!
Hey Glenn...I was wondering if you would recommend a GT-10 or a HD400 in conjunction with a tube amp. I'm looking for a unit just for effects. I like the idea of having amp modelling as well just for backup. Does one unit color tone more so than another? How do the effects quality measure to each other? Thanks in advance
Thank you for the great review Glenn! You used to have have X3L, Do you hear any difference between X3 live and HD? Maybe it is just me but to me difference is very slight. In some cases X3L sounded better.
@Extremevideopro well I commented last month on your video lol but I ended up going with the hd500 and I played it for a month or so then sold it because I felt it was just to complicated, I know that's strange since I had a x3 live before, I guess I was just used to it. Anyway is the hd400 easer to use on the fly then the hd500? Thanks
@extremevideopro last question... do you know how many amp i can use? I wonder that because I would like to change my drive tones (amp´s tone) during a music, for example...
Hi Glenn Just got the HD400 out again Looking at your patches for it but the link on your website does not open the list Anywhere I can find it? Thanks
Do you recomend FRFR system or a regular tube amp to run it with?looked @ some vids on the 500. but i still can't really tell if i can use it the the way i use the 10. and as you know us 10 useres have spent plenty of time putting some of these sounds together.but still it doesn't sound as analoge as this. and you just set 4 great soundind patches in 5 MIN.how about live?would you use live? or to early to to tell.
Hey man! Great video, very informative. I'm about to buy this in used condition but there isn't an adapter with it. Can you help me out and show me the adapter somehow? I'd be thankful. Thank you
i know you've been a big fan of Line 6 but you also have a lot of amps (and to my knowledge, i think i've read that you still prefer amps). how does this new POD series sound compared to your amps or other PODs? still prefer amps?
@extremevideopro let me know when you get the 500 and what think about i'ts flexibilaty compared to the gt10! and how much easier it is too program and get you're sounds.
Hey bro!! been looking at vids for the 500.seems to be right up there with the10. not as much flexability like the 10 (as far been able to control things like in your assings vid)but i'ts way more than enough.how's the software for the computer set up? you know connecting to the computer and progrsming it from there??
how do I use the expression pedal to control the volume of the amp (0 to the value saved in the patch) and the feedback delay (0 to 100) in the same patch? because when I want to decrease the feedback also lowers the volume, which is the solution for this to work properly? thanks
