Also being from the UK myself and coming from the North, having lived in New Zealand for 8yrs I have found New Zealand to have lots of nice things to see but not that much to do unless youre very sporty.
Glad it was helpful Andre! We've got a lot for you on the channel and the website to help you plan your trip. Plus we do live shows weekly so feel free to join in :)
@@NZPocketGuide Hi guys thanks for your reply just subscribe and will be following your channel thinking of changing the trip to 4 weeks do you think that’s long enough many thanks 😊
Thank you for this - I've just been offered a job in Aukland but I have financial commitments here in the UK that I need to account for so was researching to see whether I could actually afford the move. So difficult to try and figure out taxes, healthcare, insurance, etc. I appreciate the work you've put in here 🥰
Please be aware Auckland has just suffered a really severe weather storm of blitz proportions which has destroyed the safe use of many houses, work places and civic facilities throughout Auckland and much of the North Island. I would like to suggest that you check that your job offer is still valid, and that your future employer can guarantee that they can arrange suitable and affordable living arrangements for you before you leave the UK.
Great video, really informative. I'm so keen on getting out to NZ as a welder/fabricator. I'm coming from Wales and though I love my country, the UK as a whole is just too overpopulated for me. I'm an outdoorsy person so I think I'll fit right in. Cheers for the info, or as we'd say in Welsh, diolch yn fawr!
Good video, I live just south of you in a peaceful small town. Have always loved my country, lived mostly around the Manawatu region, not by choice more family based reasons. Lived in Tauranga for 2 years 1976 & 1977 when I was 18 and totally loved it, it is a very different place now though and not where I would return. Spent many summer holidays in pretty much the same 3 places, Auckland, Taupo, and Nelson. Taupo and Nelson are equal favorites of mine. I dont really understand or agree with so many peoples comments stating " great country but a little boring etc " NZ has everything from Auckland to villages, beaches, lakes, mountains, countryside and lifestyle all to die for so just make your choice for home base and visit the rest.
Pros of living in NZ rather than in the UK: * less competition * less crowded * better work-life balance (the relaxed pace of life in NZ is much healthier than the rat race city life in the UK) * nicer climate (average of 2000 annual sunshine hours compared to 1493 in the UK) * less racism and xenophobia * cleaner air (NZ has some of the cleanest and safest air on the planet) * less corruption (NZ ranked world's least corrupt country for the third year in a row) * much safer (NZ ranked 2nd safest country in the world, Global Peace Index) * sustainability and care for the environment * higher minimum wage (a more egalitarian society) * easy access to beautiful scenery & untouched nature * much better COVID-19 public health response * family-friendly, a great place to raise children * better coffee!
@@boomertuxx personally i would say new zealand is safer in general but in some parts of the uk its definitely safer and in new zealand we've got some pretty unsafe areas
@@randomperson-bm1cy I am sorta contemplating moving to the UK but tk be honest I don't plan to live on an urban area. Buying some land and living in the countryside in the UK is an attractive idea. Going by stats both the UK and NZ are more violent than in the US. Dunno how true that is as I'm not a fan of US cities and like the UK I'd live in a rural area if I moved to the US.
NZ is the place I want to visit the most. I'm a massive sport fan and the all blacks being one of the best teams in world rugby I'd love to take in a game. It also looks like a beautiful country, wish I had the money to go
I have been in NZ in 2017 ,I was there to improve my English and it was nightmare ,My English got better but my view to the world and especially to the western cultures is changed ,Those people pretend to value humanity values,Like kindness,Empathy,Equality,But I turns out that just exclusively between them as a race ,Man they smile to their pets and they stare at me rudely,Not to mention the other accidents of discrimination and racism that happened to me in the public places ,In my English school I faced a harassment from some teachers ,I worked as a volunteer and I faced a very rude situation from the supervisor,I faced a situation from the buss drivers ,It is got to the point someone attacked physically in at night in a public place ,It is stupid to say all of them but it in general racism is widely there between individuals ,I don’t have a white skin,I came from a middle eastern background,I think of myself as a nice person,I don’t have any prejudice towards anything to my brothers and sisters in humanity,I always respect other cultures believes and principles,I never hurt a person or an animal ,But this happened to me
Travelled the south island and would move from UK to NZ in a heart beat. Hoping to one day if i can convince my other half, just hope they are after marine engineers (ideally harbour authority) so its easy for me!!! South of england way way to busy.
I'm from Auckland. I think I'm gonna leave NZ. Interesting to hear your perspective. As an NZer I've always been frustrated at work by lazy incompetent colleagues! Luckily I have a UK passport, I've got a cousin in the UK, I'm pretty interested in moving there. I don't feel like I fit in with NZ culture. Even when you mentioned the wearing of jandals/thongs/sandals in NZ whereas in the UK they always wear shoes - yeah, I'm a shoe wearer.
I was interested in moving in newzealand from the uk,but the more I research it the more I prefer the uk.I think alot of people who move from the uk to New Zealand and adore it probably lived in a bad area in the uk.Move to Dorset ,Cornwall, Devon.
I like being able to get what you like in supermarkets cheap ,nice clothes, on my doorstep, Europe and the worl just a few hours on a plane ,nice housing ,and I don't like how much everything costs in new zealand.
@@rich3222 Yeah mate, I agree. New Zealand is a pretty crummy place unless you like BBQs and the Beach. It is also quite good for Skiing (apparently). But you're right though - everything here is expensive, its ghastly! Since I posted that I'm now deciding between the UK and Australia. Both seem awesome, but Australia seems a bit better in terms of my money making ability - so I might move to aussie for a decade to build some funds.
😂 this sounds great, couldnt help but try work your accent out saying you are from the North of England too, im guessing somewhere posh like Harrogate, you have been away for a while though because I travel the UK for a living and seem to find it harder and harder to find English people (at the end of your video)
@@NZPocketGuide Medical care is satisfactory, but we don't, by any means, have a mayo clinic on every street corner. Also a casual visit to a GP by a visitor will cost about $60 and more. Similarly a visitor has to pay full retail price for any medicine prescribed. The costs of both are subsidised for residents. For citizens and permanent residents base hospital treatment is free. Big NB. Note that the G.P.s know absolutely zilch about tick borne infections and diseases. The hospitals might be slightly more knowledgeable, but in NZ Lyme disease etc. is effectively a do-it-yourself exercise.
State primary schools are not much cop. On a good day, Literacy of English for 16 year olds is about 60%. You can't leave a hand-written note for a trades person and expect that the work will be correctly carried out, because the person who is going to do the work can't read the manual. There is no foreign language tuition whatsoever, European History is a complete void with the exception of a very few of the more important WWI and WWII battles.
NZ isn't for me, yes it is beautiful but so is the UK. I have been here only 3 months and haven't been impressed, everything is way too expensive, everything takes an age to happen, if it ever happens. We have decided to give it 12 months and if things don't improve, which I don't see how it can, then, I look forward returning to my beautiful country.
I was amused by your complaint about slow internet when you live in National Park Village, that’s like going to live in Snowdonia (10Mb download) and complaining about the internet. I looked at the broadband map for National Village according to them fibre is available maybe it wasn’t when you made this vlog?
Haha to this day it is still not there (despite being marked as completed) but in a few months it should FINALLY be completed. But yeah, it is a minor complaint of course, I chose to live in NZ after all haha!
@@NZPocketGuide I live in Auckland, 100Mb home fibre, my son in law now runs his business from home just boosted his internet to 300Mb! Sorry just had to rub it in!

In NZ what fields have you worked in? As a Registered Nurse I have repeatedly worked unpaid overtime for 30 years, an experience echoed by most NZ nurses. Similarly my husband works very long hours as a software developer. My friends and family are also hard working. To characterise the majority of New Zealanders as having a low work ethic is unfair.
I was mostly working in the service industry. I do understand your point and you are correct there are always people working harder tan other. My observations were just a general feel compared to other countries were I have often seen people have multiple jobs and such. Not a bad thing at all anyway since I chose to settle in New Zealand ;)
@@NZPocketGuide I see. It was a sweeping generalisation based on your experience in one industry. I am happy you have settled well into NZ and wish you all the best in 2022.
@@majk7215 Indeed, and I am glad that your comment helped highlight this mishaps and gave me the opportunity to clarify as well. Thanks a lot and have a super year 2022 as well!!!
I left NZ for the UK last year and have no regrets. The mains reasons were Crime and Corruption the two things most Kiwis brag about being non existent there? Go figure ..
What! I have great things about New Zealand! What you are sharing sounds worse than the US and people here are really slackers! Sad, just can't win anywhere! 😳😳😳😳😳😳😳
You need a lot of money and time to enjoy NZ. Most regular nzers can't enjoy their own country. Also transport here sucks balls. Theres a reason most kiwis leave for aussie. Its a beautiful country but its exclusive and boring
Don't know why you're worried about a Kiwi backlash ("complaining about how life is in New Zealand") . One only has to look at your video library to know that you guys are completely sold on New Zealand.
