It amazes me how you suffer through so much pain and nausea every day, but still, keep a positive attitude! Before I discovered your channel I had no idea how much work it takes to care for someone with such a severe illness. It really is a full-time job! You're so amazing for being able to still enjoy life even though you have been through so much pain and suffering.

Shout out to the gorgeous tech/nurse who took you back to imaging. Such a doll. Secondly, holy cow girl! As I understand it for button changes they usually can do it in clinic or at home. But full tube changes most folks go under for that. Or at least twilight meds. lol. You r a rock star!! You go Amy!

Hi Amy ! My best friend and I support each other through surgeries and chemo. It is so great to have her there, and I’m so happy to help her when I can . Sometimes I can’t be with her but we have pancakes once per week, or a chocolate binge . The worst is when you’re alone. Sending you gentle healing hugs !

Would be interesting to learn more about our system and how much she relying on medicare vs private insurance vs govt benefits

No, they have balloon danglers, mine were done without sedation, the dangler I had originally was one with a bumper and that has to be done under sedation. All my tube changes with a balloon, including my amt button is done in IR so they can see in real time where the tube is going and to make sure it’s sitting in the right spot.

I hope they at least gave you something for the pain while changing it out, and if they didn't offer I would have asked! I've had a lifetime of medical issues as well because I was born without a urethra. (Over 15 major abdominal surgeries at this point I think.) I'm new to your channel and understand the kind of strength you have to have to put up with all the medical stuff on a day to day basis. Just wanted to say thank you for posting these videos. Have you looked into MALS? It is common with EDS patients, I’ve had symptoms for it my entire life and didn’t get diagnosed until I was 24, and then about a year later had open MALS surgery 3 days after my 25th birthday. Lots of people are misdiagnosed with gastroparesis that actually have MALS. I don’t know your entire story so I could be way off the mark but I thought I’d mention it just in case. Might be the answer to get you off your feeding tube.

Great video, thank you Amy! My son is 7, he has complex additional needs. Wheelchair bound, non verbal.. the list is endless. He has a Jej, as he can’t tolerate anything at all in his stomach. Its so interesting to hear you explain how it feels having a change. My son can’t tell us, he just lays there and lets them crack on with it. He’s had 7 changes in the last 2 months as his balloon just keeps popping, which is so infuriating!! Changes are so different here, it’s all done in X-ray, they thread a wire in the original one like they did to you, then X-ray, then remove the old, X-ray to ensure the wires still in the right place, then thread the new one.. then another x Ray, then the solution followed by another X-ray.. takes 5 mins Max! I started watching your videos because I saw a thumbnail of you with what I now know was a ng or nj feeding tube; I was curious because I met a girl in my second year of uni who had one and I never got close enough with her to ask her about it (I didn't want to be rude and question her either, even if we had gotten close). She had to drop out and postpone her degree because of her illness and I never got to speak with her again, but I'm glad I now know what she needed it for and how she probably struggled with illness during school. Thanks again for just showing us your daily life and allowing me to become more educated on how you live with your illness on a daily basis

While you’d think it would be more convenient, it would actually be much harder with significantly higher complication rate. From a scheduling perspective, the orthopedic surgeon and GI would have to be perfectly synced with their timing which never happens. Otherwise, she would be under anesthesia for too long (potentially) if the provider for the second procedure was not immediately ready to scrub in when the first is complete. And as part of each of the procedures, films or xrays are usually taken to ensure correct placement.

I'm always interested. I felt my job in life is just surviving with type one diabetes and thyroid disorder ( plus a lot of small complications) I takes such a toll on some of us to live. We can't switch health problems. We don't get promoted or paid. We DONT GET VACATION! We just get to wake up the next day. Thank you for sharing and I just hope to see you well

Amy, you handled that amazingly well, me, I could never cope like you did. I had gallbladder surgery on April 30th this year, I was so ill after, I had a reaction to the pain meds. It was 2 weeks before I could eat. All I could manage was water and then only sips. I had to have fluids through a drip i was becoming so dehydrated. I'm ok now, still can't have anything spicy, makes me feel so sick. You are amazing. Much love from jules in the UK xxxx

Wow, how many people were in the room during the tube change? It sounded like in a crowed subway station 🤷‍♀️
