I loved that The sims 3 introduced elevators and high rise/penthouses etc, but I think TS2 wins for me solely because it allowed for shared spaces, you could visit your neighbors (and without loading screens) and the system just seemed really thought out.
Its thought out in ts4 aswell, butcts2 was able to reuse a systhem intodruced in uni wuth loading in Rooms. In ts4 sich a systhem doesnt exist plus they have to make it run smoother on lower systhems.
TS2 already had elevators on Open for Business. And you can actually build apartment buildings with penthouses if you will. With the sethighestallowedlevel" cheat you can even build tall.
While Sims 3 lacked a lot on the apartment side, I think it's worth remembering that apartments were an addition to a pack that was based on nightlife and the celebrity system. It wasn't the main focus of the expansion packs, such as Apartment Life or City Living/For Rent
I 100% agree! Every single expansion pack in Sims 3 had like dozens of new features, so apartments were like a gift from EA to us in Late Night. Okay, I wish they would had made them more realistic and interactive , but at least you could use cheats to edit your apartments outside the limits.
There's a cheat in The Sims 2 where you can rent furnished apartments (if they were furnished), and there's even a mod to enable this option permanently if you want to
hey! the mod is already inside the game. type "boolprop testingcheatsenabled true" into the cheat bar (press Ctrl + ⇧ Shift + C ) then, as soon as your sim moves onto the apartment lot, instead of just right clicking on the door to rent it, you click ⇧ Shift and right click on the door of the apartment you want to move in, then you should be able to choose "rent furnished apartment" lmk if it worked!!
I actually like how Sims 2 landlords differ from Sims 4 landlords (not property owners). The sims 2 one does stuff like fixing, but also lends a community aspect such as organizing the get together for tenants - however they're also aggressive at chasing you for rent. meanwhile the sims 4 one is purely utilitarian (fixing stuff mostly, no community aspect) but is passive aggressive / throws shade at you for not paying rent. LOL
Even though the For Rent pack is all about apartments, I think it does this pretty badly. At first I thought multifamily lots would make the game more lively, but it didn't. Because 2 or 3 sims go into shared areas and I think the whole point of this pack is shared areas. They do not interact with any objects other than base game objects and do not have autonomy cross pack compability. You have to wait for the loading screen when going to your neighbor, and when you become a landlord, it is very annoying to constantly wait for the loading screen because you have to go to the sims' apartments. Even though Apartment Life was released in 2008, the pack don't have a loading screen to go to your neighbor, and with the current technology in 2023, a much better solution could definitely be found than loading screens, but it seems that it was easier to take the apartment system in City Living as it is and add it to for rent. There is also a social status system in the Sims 2 and your neighbors can change accordingly, but there is no such thing in the Sims 4. In Sims 3, apartments are actually normal lots and only have apartment shell set dressings. However, since it was an open world game and Late Night was a very large pack, I didn't mind it at the time. Bridgeport is a city that looks very beautiful, especially at night. San Myshuno is a very cardboard city. And although I think the Sims 4 has better graphics in interior areas, I think it lags behind the Sims 3 in terms of environmental design and environmental graphics.
Yes, as much as I love Sims 2, Sims 3 Bridgeport felt like NYC and with an open world, it's an amazing space to live and work with no loading screens. I love watching my Sim travel and if a firefighter, drive around the City fighting fires. In Sims 2, it may not be an open world like 3, but you still interact with others in the hallways and common areas with no loading screens like a true "apartment life", IRL. Sims 4 breaks immersion constantly.
@@berkansaygn3131 Thats because Sims 4 development was originally an online based game until most of the development had to be scrapped two years leading up to the Sims 4 release due to the flop of the Sim City online based model. Sims 4 at the end of the day is limited by its engine which was designed for said online game
my apartment is lively, and many residents especially children always play in the backyard. Sims also seen using BBQ and just sitting there. I have no problem being a landlord, but one thing I found is annoying is I can't seem to upgrade the rating of my units. They always stuck in 3 star, even I did regular maintenance and clean on every units.
I personally like the new voice over, it adds a bit more life to the video👍🏻👍🏻 0:20 Sims 2 really just had the most 2000s German flat in it huh? Its like something directly out of Uncyclopedia... 6:00 Always so nice to see a direct Evolution from Sims 2 to 3, now the flavour text here is different! What even is a by law anyway💀💀
I can't choose between TS2 and TS4 for this. I love how easy it is for TS2 to go visit the neighbors (no loading screens) but I also love the freedom that we get in TS4 and the gameplay associated with the units
Couple of things for Sims 2: 1) You can also use the computer to find a roommate. 2) If there is a grill on the apartment lot, the landlord could grill for the weekend party. Also, the babysitting requests (to apartment neighbors) can be made if you just want to go out on the town, while at work or even a full vacation (they can even be asked to pet sit too). As of yet, no other mainline sims has this feature. In addition, Sims 2 apartments can be as minimal as trailer parks and flop houses (University), or as luxurious as Townhouses and high-rises with penthouse apartments. Plus, the cross pack compatibility just enhances all of this, as you could build luxurious hotels in all your neighborhoods (Bon Voyage), Rental Row Houses, Lobby Restaurants and Clothing Stores (Night Life and OFB), and can place bowling alleys (NL), ice/roller rinks (Seasons), DJ Booths (NL/FT), photo booths (NL), etc. all in common areas. For a nearly 20 year old game, to simply state that versatility of Sims 2 surpasses all the mainline Sims games is an understatement. With mods and CC, Sims 2 looks better than Sims 4, is more optimized than Sims 3 and can replicate either of them on every front. The Sims was the most groundbreaking game, and Sims 2 enhanced nearly every aspect. Sims 2 has the best gameplay, animations, physics, details, cutscenes (the only one of the mainline Sims games to have them), personalities, Lore, event scenarios, and the list goes on... Now that competition is around the corner, Sims 4 is still not making enough of an effort to win back its Sim Veterans; it has long lost its title of "Life Simulator," but rather has further cemented its footing as just an overpriced "DLC Simulator" (Even to have all the features that apartment living has to offer, you need at least 3 of the packs, plus more if you want the features added in with Sims 2 Apartment Life or Sims 3 Late Night). And to end on a better note, it is great to hear your voice, after watching your content for so long, thank you for sharing your voice, it is very nice and calming❣
As a Sims 3 stan I hate that I have to put it in last place 😩 I like that penthouses are pretty imo and that elevators are functional (though slow af) but I hate that you can't visit other sims 😭
At least with University Life you can have roommates. I guess one way to play a landlord is to use cheats to allow you to edit the outer limits of your penthouse and then bring roommates in and let them occupy the other free space of your apartment.
@@cecilj40 yes, they included celebrities and vampires and clubs! But they do none of those things perfectly, so I think Sims 4 approach of making a specific pack for each thing, although greedy, may be better in terms of more fleshed out things.
Despite the loading screens in Sims 4, I have to say I've really been enjoying the open ended flexibility of the rental system in For Rent. I very much enjoy how rental units can be anything, be it apartments, town houses, a room for rent and so on. I've always been a fan of lot traits and challenges for the added dynamics and household maintenance gameplay they introduce, as well as expand the types of environments your sims can live in be it gross and run down to more high end and luxurious. I also have to say in combination with features like clubs, NAPs and eco footprints, the sense of an active community really comes to life in a way that brings me so much joy.
@@lamicadelcuore Don't think AI can change the voice range. Sometimes, especially in longer sentences the last words will become untelligible. Hope for next time the Background Music is quieter or she speaks up a bit louder.
@@ItsIdahoyou're probably right about it being the og Red's voice! If so, I love it! 🥰 But the background music's volume should indeed be at a little bit lower level.
Great overview as always. Though some corrections I have to make: Roommates come from The Sims 3 University Life and The Sims 4 Discover University. I could almost say that The Sims 2 is the only game where apartments and roommates come from the same pack, but there is one thing you forgot to mention: The Sims 3 University Life also brings apartment lot type to the game (though the only way to see it is by changing lot type in Edit World mode). Though these are more of dorms in home world... The Sims 4 roommates seem to move out randomly, but when they do, you have some time to convince them if your sim has some Research & Debate skill. Plus roommates have unique quirks: some leave notes, some bring food, some may even upgrade your objects. The Sims 2 also have bills and rent separate. Missing rent for 3 days causes it to be added to the bills. Missing bills causes the repo-man to arrive. The Sims 4 For Rent has another thing that can happen (especially if they have broken unit rules or missed rent before): eviction. Should this happen, your sim is given time to pack up their things. During that time, sims can convince property owner to give them a second chance. But after the event, you'll be taken to Manage Worlds where you'll have to pick a new home for your sims. You can move them back into the unit they were evicted from however. Oh, and grace period thing in TS4 For Rent: after set amount of days (usually 7), your sims go into a Grace Period. For tenants, it means that they can move out without needing to pay extra. For property owners, it means that they can change the rent without any consequences. And also, landlords in City Living have more gameplay when your sim lives in an apartment with Needs TLC trait: broken pipes, electrical box, mice, insect infestation, and weird odor also allows you to call landlord over. In addition to rent, low relationship can also prevent the landlord from coming. Plus with City Living, traits neighbors have can also affect how they act. For example, Goofball and Erratic sims may barge in uninvited from time to time, Romantic sims may come over to take a shower, sims who hates children may complain about noise if there are children playing etc. One interesting thing to also mention is how it is to build an apartment from scratch. My overview here is so: The Sims 2: Start from Residential lot, use Unique Separator door (make sure that the side with mat is located outside the unit). Then make sure that every room accessible from the door is fully walled off with walls and fences. After you are done, open the cheat console with Control+Shift+C and type in 'changelotzoning apartmentbase' there. If a notification pops up, revert it back to residential and make changes. Otherwise, you got your own custom apartment! The Sims 3: Choose a Residential type lot (Residential or University Life's apartment). You need to enter these cheats: 'testingcheatsenabled true', 'buydebug on', and 'restrictbuildbuyinbuildings off'. You mostly need to use markers from debug category: with 'Public room marker' you mark common areas you can't build in (outdoors don't need one as it is automatically restricted), with 'Hidden room marker' you mark other sims' units (plus control-shift-clicking on the marker also allows you to set the ambiance sound), and doors between hidden rooms and public rooms can be marked as an NPC door with control-shift-clicking on it and choosing the interaction to make it so (it'll house 1 townie). The Sims 4: With For Rent, simply use the tools Residential Rental lot type provides: mark units by clicking on rooms, set the lot traits for each unit from lot info panel etc. If you want to make more than 6 units, you can use this cheat: 'increaserentalunitcap on'. Though do remember that one save file can have only up to 100 units. When a sim owns the lot, you can set the rent, lease length, and unit rules.
Good for you to trying something new with doing a voice over! Even if it's something you don't stick with in future videos, I'm glad you felt confident enough to even try! As for which game did the best... I think it's hard to choose between 2 and 4. I always enjoy making an apartment lot in 2, and I believe I will also in 4, but I haven't gotten For Rent yet. That also means I personally don't know how I feel yet on the added mechanics, but I think it's nice that it has been expanded more. I do have fun with the TLC apartments in City Living, as you do see the landlord more if you need them to solve those problems for you! I think if I remember correctly that if you call over the landlord too much or maybe have a bad relationship with them that they sometimes won't come, but I could be wrong 😅 Great job on the video!
First of all, I gotta make it clear that I applaud your bravery in pushing past your comfort zones to try something new. Perfect is the enemy of good, and I'd love to see you practice this new format if it's something that interests you! That said, though, I need you to know how bad I got jumpscared when I clicked on a channel I've always known to be music and text only and heard someone talking to me 😭😂
Haha I got that a lot. Thank you! I'm thinking of voicing the next one but I want to make it clear it's voiced to not scare people who click unkowingly
I've always loved your videos and I was a bit sad that I wasn't able to multitask with them (I usually put a video on my phone to listen to while I cook/clean/draw). And I personally enjoy hearing your voice! I specially like the accent, cadence and the pauses that let my brain rest for a second or two. So I really like the new voice over!!
And they all work differently. The City Living apartments have specific lot traits and gameplay that can't be set on other lots; The Eco lifestyle apartments have the dynamic change applied to them depending on the NAP; and for Rent is really all about owning a property and rent it (it's the business aspect)
personally, i like the voicing. i use videos like this as background more than anything so its nice to be able to follow along without having to read the subtitles :D
Yup, Sims 2 is the clear winner for this one. They feel more like real life. Sims 4 actually seems to have done a good job. Sims 3 is the clear loser. They're really not much different to buying a regular place, although I will admit I didn't know about the roommate feature. Did that come with Late Night or was that added later? Edit: A pleasant surprise to hear your voice in this one. Keep it up and you'll start sounding more confident.
I have no idea when roommates were added tbh. There's many features that I never tried even tho I was actively playing, but I see it was patch 1.50. And thank you! I've been adding voiceovers ever since pets, but I always thought it was best to hear the actual sim sounds. Maybe later I'll find a nice balance.
Apartments really suck in the Sims 3 mostly because you cannot choose what apartment your sims will move in and you cannot visit your neighbours within the apartment. If the Sims 4 didn’t have the loading screens when visiting neighbours apartments on the same lot and have functional elevators like it’s predecessors then the Sims 4 would’ve won as the Sims 4 really did good at everything else. The Sims 2 really wins this round as you can visit neighbours apartments without loading screens and you can choose your apartment unlike sims 3 even though you can choose your apartments in the sims 4 too.
The apartments in The Sims 3 shows up the main issue of Late Night: if offers a lot of things, but not all of them are well executed in the way they should, so in The Sims 4 you have more gameplay for these things but there's the unfortunate need to pay too much more for that as the features were released in different packs
I agree. Late Night had a lot of potential for apartment gameplay. If only the devs filled out all the penthouses with additional apartments instead of leaving like 60% of the entire first floor as dead space. That way they could have given you the potential to have roommates or tenants in a future pack, such as University Life.
I remember the hype going around late night but people started resenting how empty lots were and how slow it ran. Sims 3 is full of good ideas with bad executions, Sims 4 is full of safe ideas that end up being broken, so I'll take Sims 3 approach any day
Thank you very much for the new video! Whenever I see a video from you, I want to play The Sims again. In Sims 2, I like that the landlord hosts gatherings for the tennants. In Sims 4, I like the possibility of snooping around in your neighbors apartments. I also find it funny that the Sims can start a fire to clean the mold but freak out when the see the fire they started lol.
I like the voice acting, I usually watch the videos at 2x speed, so sometimes the text goes by too quickly for me to read and still see what’s happening, so the voice being there lets me focus on the footage only.
Another great comparison video! I've never used apartments in my gameplay, so it was interesting learning about them. And your voiceover definitely was a positive addition! Well done.
_I LOVE YOUR VOICEEE_ _This is really nice because i normally put videos in the background while doing something else (like drawing for example). But i also like reading the subtitles_ _in general, a great video as always!_
I remember when apartments first came out for Sims 2. I created a huge building and moved all my active families at the time to it. For about a moth I was basically playing on a single lot but 4+ different households> Also your voice is lovely, looking forward to more narrated videos =D
Keep up the awesome work! First time hearing a voice over, and it’s not bad. Although typically I do prefer videos without commentary. That’s just me though. Love your channel!
Wow! What the hell? I didn't expect the voice. But I didn't expect to fall in love with that voice either :D Happy New Year! Your input will be saved for generations. I promise. Wow, what a video, dude, just in time!
honestly really liked your videos much more without the voice acting. It's absolutely great to hear your voice though! just a bit of a scare when i was binging your videos to go to sleep and was jumpscared awake by a voice i didnt recognize 😅
Love the voice as I can watch it in bed without having to read the captions! Your videos are awesome btw I'm not sure why I am so interested in the different sims games but its for some reason so fun to just watch how far sims has come over the years!
I was actually so shocked to hear a voice. I was so used to never hearing any narration that I thought I was in a different channel lol. I don't think it's bad tho, I liked it. Also The Sims 2 is definitely fav. I also like how you can just break in somebody's house in The Sims 4 like that isn't a crime at all.
@@TheRedPlumbobNot a jumpscare, you have a really beautiful voice 😭 even though I'm not an English native speaker I can understand your voice easily, thanks! ❤️
You can talk?! Omg you sound great! wll this was a surprise also those camera angles in the introduction of the worlds remind me of Sims 2 so I automatically love it
@5:40 this is, of course, as a tenant. In real life, tenants can't demolition their apartment because they don't own the property. However, in Sims 2 you can also be the land developer and build apartments and it's a lot of fun.
my experience in TS3 just recently a fire broke out in one of the apartments and.... the firefighter was stuck in routing due to the elevator being inaccessible.... HUE HUE HUE... sounds like a typical sims 3 issue
Good video, and you have a beatiful voice, so I'm happy with it, on other items, I hope that Ror Rent release fixes the LE that every Sims week will drop when you live in apartments, I see that often as Deaderpool Support Team member.
New subscriber here Red, and I've watched quite a few of your videos before hand. I must say, your voice compliments the videos quite well. If anything inflate your ego before recording, become full of yourself, and be more confident in your voice. I think it'll do quite a bit of good. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
How much I miss the electronic box (intercom) and the bell ring from TS3! 😫 6:17 Not true for all the apartments in The Sims 4 tho, some are "more restricted" than others!!
i only remember a little bit of sims 2 apartments from what i remembered i loved them. sims 3 i also loved the elevators especially how they actually walked into them unlike some games. *cough sims 4 cough* sims 4 i mainly play in apartments because i don’t know how to build well. i do like them but i don’t love them there are so many things that they could’ve brought back from previous games that would’ve made it perfect.
the thing that i hate about the sims 4 is that they did a lot of most wanted features from the sims 2 and 3 but also delete a lot of favorite features from them
Tbh I completely thought you were a boy until now…😅 But that’s ok! You’re still amazing! Your content is still amazing, and your voice is so soothing! I love the new voiceovers :D
0:31 I think this is the place that I placed my sims in my only memory of playing the sims 2 I was waiting for my sister to use motherlode. I don't think she ever did lol
6:00 "You can't even move the windows" Yeah, as it usually is 😆 Should be added that editing exterior walls in Sims 4 looks more like a glitch than a feature since it's wonky AF + you have control over the windows since a veeeery short time, it wasn't a feature of the pack for years!!
