A bit about the hymn itself (via Wikipedia and other sources): The Oxyrhynchus Hymn is the earliest known manuscript of a Christian hymn to contain both lyrics and musical notation, dating to the end of the 3rd century AD, written in Greek and on a diatonic scale. The hymn, whose author is unknown, poetically invokes silence so that the Holy Trinity may be praised. It was found on fragment 1786 of the Oxyrhynchus Papyri, discovered during an archaeological excavation of an ancient trash dump at Oxyrhynchus, Egypt (modern-day El-Bahnasa) in 1918, and published in 1922. In addition to the hymn, the Oxyrhynchus Papyri contain thousands of Greek and Latin texts, including fragments of plays by the ancient playwright Menander, and the earliest known fragments of Euclid's Elements, one of the first mathematical treatises. The hymn fragment is preserved today in the Sackler Library, Oxford University. The hymn here is sung in the original Greek; the English lyrics are: Let the world be silent Let not the stars shine their lights Calm the winds, silence the rivers Let all praise the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit Let all sing together, Amen, Amen.
