That is so wild (literally haha)! I wish that people were more interested in fungi stuff, they have a whole universe of their own, and it is beautiful.

This guy is good at knowing a subject deeply but explaining it in a way anyone can understand. Too many teachers take pride in speaking in a way that if you don't already know the lesson you can't understand it and if you do then there is no point in listening to it.

The most incredible life cycle I have found in mushrooms is the moral. Chlamydospores, secondary mycelium, sclerotia and back again. Truly amazing.

Question, so spores don't necessarily need to meet up to start germinating correct? They'll germinate and then find each other creating a thicker looking growth?

I have a few questions. 1- in what part of its life cycle a mushroom is a single cell. Are spores single cells? 2- do all mushrooms go through a phase where they are like yeast instead of a single multicellular organism?

Thank you for this video. I have a few question at the 3:00 mark. A single fruiting body produces two spore types, one for each haploid, right? And if those two specific spore types combine it will create mycelium with the same genetic information as the original fruiting body? and then if that mycelium fruits, those new fruiting body's spores would be identical to the original fruiting body's? If so, there would not be any variation right? Do spores have genetic mutations that differ from the original fruiting body like we see in other reproduction types? When you describe different 'negative' and positive' haploid spores combining to create a new fruiting body variation, I assume they have to be genetically similar enough for that to work, correct? Like you couldn't take a 'minus' from an oyster and a 'positive' from a lion's mane and get an oyster mane? or lion oyster? or rocky mountain lion oysters lol. They would need to be similar enough for them to 'complete' each other, right? I guess my thought is that in nature, both haploid spore types from a single fruiting body are dropped together in an environment that already worked to produce fruiting bodies, and that the best chance for the two haploids to find each other would be right out of the gate and as they find their way further from their origin the likelihood decreases. That would be asexual reproduction, correct? And then if they wander off and find a mate out in the wild, that would be sexual, right? which would then be the situation where a new variation would be created. Spores are weird and I'm having a hard time grasping how these pairs work to form a new variation without having some sort of baseline genetic structure that is required for them to be a match to begin with. Recently I bought a "ready to grow" mushroom kit but not sure if I am supposed to inoculate or trigger fruiting (and ideally how) - the seller said it's ready, but it's mostly still brown but I do see mycelium penetrating to the bottom One long looks like brand new and another was a little hard on top (like a left over mushroom stem, no I nick it off and hoping I don't mess it up) Anyone can give some pointer? The thing in my are is called Baglog, so perhaps fellow asians?

If a non poisonous mushroom is growing not far from a poisonous mushroom. Will the or could the nonpoisonous mushrooms become contaminated? Thanks! Oh and I'm a beginner so would you give me a cool tip that I can take with me when I forage?
