After suffering my spinal cord injury i have really had to adapt in life. So Im showing you my disability lifestyle to raise disability awareness. As a disabled woman and a woman in a wheelchair who is paralysed, I thought it would be interesting for you to see, and hopefully give you some inspiration and motivation so that you can live more independently. wether you are paraplegic or quadriplegic I hope that I can help you. The wheelsnoheels message is “so no one has to feel alone.”
I have lots of interesting disability videos, a lot of videos on how to cope with a disability and living life in a wheelchair, wether you are a girl boy woman or man. i have some paraplegic exercise videos, and advice. its important to keep your fitness levels up as much as possible as this can when physically and mentally with depression.
If you feel I have given you value today consider buying me a ko-fi, just think of it as a tip.

Even as a cellist this is an awesome tip. Sitting in the same position holding a cello for 3 hour rehearsals normal jeans dig in, ride down and ruin your posture. This is an awesome idea for anyone who is sitting all the time! Very smart!

I almost exclusively wear maternity bottoms. They're honestly the best way to have cute disability/wheelchair friendly pants. I HIGHLY recommend Old Navy and Target to others in the United States.

I would definitely love seeing more clothing hacks for people in wheelchairs in fact you was the one who explain to me the vest trick for my legs and I use my husband's fishing vest whenever it rains to keep my legs dry and to stop the wind from making me even chillier so any type of hacks for clothing for wheelchairs would be much appreciated as well as any type of hack to keeping your legs warm in the winter because sometimes having a bulky blanket doesn't always work

Not actually tried this myself as I'm not a FT WC user, but I have thought about wearing waterproof/winter jodhpurs when it's cold/windy/rainy. I would have to buy them in a few sizes up depending on the waistband, but they look a lot warmer than standard waterproof 'over' trousers I've found!

Being lactose intollerant and having sensory processing issues I only wear maternity jeans and leggins for outside of my appartement. Makes a lot of sense, that these work well for wheelchairusers as well.

As a bloke, I live and die in Cotton Traders jogging bottoms. As I need the legs shortened I buy the longest legs, so there's plenty of room in the legs to accommodate my leg-bag. Tight trousers would be a practical as well as fashion disaster on a man of my advancing years. 😭

I’m so glad it’s not just me, I exclusively wear either leggings or maternity trousers, especially jeans. Wheelchair clothes, like you said, are either aimed at older people or are outrageously expensive. Due to my neuropathy I can’t have lots of seams, embellishments etc and the material has to be soft so I never buy online as I need to have a good feel of them because the last thing I need is my trousers causing quite violent spasms all over the place. I have a massive wound around the whole of my abdomen so can never wear anything with a waistband so for all these issues over the bump maternity trousers are ideal. I think, like you, people are secretly envious of the fact that we can get away with wearing maternity trousers when not pregnant. The other clothing adjustments I make are: - not wearing proper bras with hooks and wires (so difficult to fasten/unfasten and so uncomfortable) so I wear over the head sports type bra, I put it over my head and onto my stomach area then put my arms through and adjust it, it’s so much easier to get on and off plus it’s much more comfortable. - I wear a size up in T-shirt’s to make it easier to get on but make sure that they are short in the body so that I don’t end up with a bunched up mass of material around the waist area. - I struggle to get on/off over the head sweaters and hoodies so tend to rear zip ups just to make it easier. - I’m not very good at buttons so can’t wear regular shirts but occasionally you can find what look like buttons but are actually poppers or a couple of times I’ve had a shirt with magnetic fasteners which look like buttons (the only issue with this is that if you get caught up on something and give it a good tug the magnets can come undone. The other option if you have a gorgeous shirt/ blouse with buttons is to wear a T-shirt/ camisole underneath then you don’t have to button it up. - i struggle to get a big winter coat on so tend to layer lots of long sleeve T-shirt, zip up, gilet etc there are also lots of beautiful big wooden wrap/cape type things (sorry don’t know the actual name) that can add another layer. Anything to be comfortable whilst still wheeling!

I have peripheral neuropathy and had a stage 2 pressure sore on my foot, I put these new bandages from the Johnson’s brand that are like a patted silicon, they’re for blisters I think, and they work a charm to protect my boney provinces. Maybe give them a go?

So glad you did this. I think that what this illustrates is that women’s clothing needs to be more comfortable, classy looking and affordable no matter the person’s situation. If a famous fashion designer had runway models wearing maternity clothing with souped up looking tops and accessories, it would be called High Fashion. It’s all marketing and how you look at it.

I highly recommend going to a tailor or just taking a seam ripper and taking out any back pockets or other seams on the sitting surfaces. They're a HUGE source of pressure injuries if you don't have good sensation.

Jeggings are painful for me. The inside fabric of every pair I've every are really rough and I have incredibly sensitive skin. Plus, the waistline ends up digging into my abdomen if I want to get a pair that fits my legs.

Due to watching this video when it came out I went and got myself a pair of Maternity jeans as at that point I was using a wheelchair part time. I’m now a full time wheelchair user and the only jeans I wear are maternity. I always rave about how fantastic a ‘hack’ it is the anybody who will listen, especially any members of my multi disciplinary medical team in the hope to spread this knowledge out as much as possible. No more jeans have down your bottom, no more cold kidneys, real comfort and support.

When I was first disabled, I wore maternity jeans. They were so comfy but in 1979 you didn’t as many options as today. It had a U-shaped cut out with elastic inserted. The tube style waist band you have is great! As for the fitted leg openings that come with skinny jeans, I would recommend altering the bottoms of each leg with a zipper on the outermost seam at a length based on where the jeans get easy to get your foot through. Probably 3”. The other way to alter the leg bottom is to put elastic or Lycra fabric on the inseam so the opening will expand as you push your foot through. A shoe repair shop can stitch denim easily. I hope my comments help and maybe you will give it a go then video it! 😊

I've been thinking of trying maternity jeans for a while. I typically like them to be tight on my legs but looser on the waist to accommodate the weird wheelchair belly we ALWAYS have. So I've used high-waisted jeans as an alternative. But even high-waisted jeans become uncomfortable after a while and especially after eating. Thank you for your video and your commentary, I'm for sure giving maternity jeans a try!

absalutly brilliant. That will be my next thing to look for in clothing. I am a jogging indoor person. But change to go out. Only two pairs of jeans that fit due to high waisted ones. Although they have never dug in... maybe due to having the slight give in fabric. i do find it a nightmare undoing zip for loo. I do have one leg and so i hop rather than transfer. but fine my tousers can slip onto yukky wet floors. i also have to alter all my trousers as through knee amputaion. nightmare. But got two plans now. Easy sew for joggers and a nice fold back pouch kind of thing for out door jezns. This means i have something to pull that last bit of the trouser leg over my stump and look tidy. Had comments from friends. Not something id like to make day in day out. as having to keep trying on for a comfy fit. Not found anything on the market to cover this issue. So matternity department at the age of 66 should get the tongs wagging.

This is actually a really good idea, I would never have considered maternity jeans until this video! Yeah I usually just get super high-waisted jeans (well jeggings because they are way more comfortable) and that covers the lovely crackage from sitting. It also hits me at a higher point in the waist too, so they don't jab into my lower organs and it's way more ergonomic on my hips (which can be a bit of an issue, especially since I don't feel my hips past the top of them so tight jeans/underwear have been known to cause sores and cuts). Uh next time I go jean shopping I will definitely keep this video in mind, that is a really good hack!

I really struggle to find jeans that are long enough as I need 33"-34" length and I now also struggle to find jeans that are comfortable on the waist. I HIGHLY recommend New Look Tall Emilee jeggings as they are the most comfy trousers I've had maybe ever. They are high waisted so I can pull them over my belly instead of having a bulge and they don't show my butt. Theyre also SO soft, so much so i can actually lounge in them. So glad I can wear jeans now!!

i have used plastic bags over my feet to help them easily slide through pants. would that help you? it is fairly to easy put a zipper in the lower leg of pants. but, i would make sure there is adequate padding in a flap behind zipper so: skin is not pinched when zipping, zipper does not cause a sore from rubbing or pressing skin.

I don't use my wheelchair that much but I'm so tempted to try a pair I have bad motor skills and can't really do buttons and zipper

If there are masculine versions of these, that would be great. Are there? But for the people that these work for, that is a good, pretty creative option. That bathroom you were in looked really nice though. 👍🏽

Hey! I was wondering if perhaps you could tell me the male/model or where you got your driving aids from? I'm looking for something similar or the exact same thing and I'm having a really difficult time finding it.

Hi Chantel. They were from ergo mobility .co .uk. I have been using the company for about 12 years and they have been fantastic and really friendly. I hope they help. Any other questions feel free to shoot me an email as I don't always see comments. Im also planing another car vid so keep and eye out for that. ;)

Ooh this is such a good idea! I think though if you find the bottom of the leg harder could you not just put a zip in the seam yourself?

Taking them to a tailor probably would be very cost effective. I am a sewist, but would not gladly put zippers in jeans legs (so much bulk) And by the way, why are tailors so much more inexpensive that dressmakers?

Im wearing maternity jeans cause I’m pregnant and honestly they are way more comfy than regular jeans in the wheelchair! Probably gonna stick to my maternity clothes long after I have my baby 😅😂

You can actually buy maternity jeans with a zip on the side but it is not that big only about three or four inches

You know what? I think these might work for me. I'm not in a wheelchair (yet. May have, may not) but I have dozens of non-cancerous tumors in my abdomen that are very painful and most pants have been really hurting the past year. I _loathe_ wearing any pants that have a stretchy waistline outside and prefer jeans but this seems to be a good combination of the two.

I usually hate jeans so I might have a look at maternity jeans if I can find any in petite/short leg length.

emily cheetham lots of stores that carry maternity usually have a petite I use these for bloating and my wheelchair A good tip is to look at thrift store or craigslist/OfferUp/etc for used ones I get them for $5-7 from goodwill and offer up

Lol so I use a wheelchair now but I’ve always worn dresses and skirts. And I always wear them with tights or leggings. That what my style was before becoming a wheelchair user and my style hasn’t changed since getting my chair. So I don’t really wear jeans lol. Only thing is when the skirt tries to get dirty on the wheels but I just tuck it under my legs and that usually helps for a little while! Love all your vids! Also one Sunday when I had transferred out of my wheelchair and was playing on the floor with some kids from church I let some kids play with my chair ( I figured that it was a good way to help them not be afraid of wheelchair users and feel comfortable asking questions) they ended up like fighting over it lol. And one of them commented how exhausting it was but I was like well it means independence and I can get around and live my life! And the kid was like oh yeah I guess it is worth it then. Lol. Cutie pies!

@SohiTheTinyKittenHuman
@SohiTheTinyKittenHuman 5 лет назад
I have a heart condition brought on by a strep infection the doctors missed the first time I went in and autoimmune issues and arthritis. I can pass out so the wheelchair keeps me from getting hurt and I’m much less likely to pass out in the first place in the chair.

Pants are not a problem for me. Sleeves and skirts are! Sleeves that wont stay up, and skirts and scarves, who are always getting tangeled up, in my wheelchair! 😓

Off topic, but this made me think of the time i came out of the disabled bathroom stall to face someone in a wheel chair and I really awkwardly blurted out “i have bad kneees” because I didnt want them to think I was in there without a reason- how silly was this? I wanted them to know i wasnt completely able bodied but I also felt like an idiot

I would wear maternity jeans and I'm not even a wheelchair user--I have Tourette's and jeans set off my tics so badly because of how tight and scratchy they are in the waist.

Also since I'm autistic I hate the feel of buttons on my belly since its so tight and as I also walk strangely due to my bones growing strangely so my feet and knees turn in and my knees bend in an odd manner they have more stretch
@littleblondebatw

I've been wanting to wear some jeans and was dreading the idea of them being tight across my belly I think I'm going to do like you did and get some maternity ones and on that line something that is really weird that I where is men's underwear they are so much more comfortable on the leg creases then women's women's underwear cut into you badly or men's underwear have a nice little egg that comes down and doesn't cut in there's my little secret
