⚓️Cruise Ship draws Enormous Duluth Crowd! Viking Polaris departs Duluth, MN

The 665-foot ship Viking Polaris departed under the Aerial Lift Bridge in Duluth, MN. During its departure the captain blasted two separate horn salutes. One responding to the Vista Star tour ship in the Harbor Basin and the other under the Aerial Lift Bridge. This was one of the largest crowds I have witnessed in person next to the ship canal. I setup a few feet from the Lift Bridge in a new camera position. I zoomed in on many cool features on this modern ship and described what I was seeing!

I was on the bow deck of the Polaris on June 24th as she went under the bridge; however, we didn't get such a big crowd on the pier that day because the weather was a bit gray and drizzly.

@@vibewithmike It was a fabulous trip. Viking offers top-notch service in every regard, and the ship is gorgeous. The itinerary was interesting, with a nice mix of city visits and more remote / rural stops. I won't need to do this particular cruise again, but I will definitely be going on other Viking cruises.

The Duluth Canal is the best place to watch ships not only for the close-up views, but also for the exciting atmosphere and nearby ammenities. Nothing like it.

One of the coolest features of the Viking ships is the onboard camera Panomax, which is a controllable 360 degree camera on top of the ship. Really provides great views of all the port of calls that don't have harbor cams. Nicely done Mike, great job.

Both she and her sister ships are modern marvels. Expensive as heck but very luxurious. If you think about it we are people on the internet, looking at people on the pier, looking at people on the ship... Just made me chuckle when I realized it. Have a great Saturday Mike! 🙂

Yeah we do but I don't think that they are this luxurious. Tourism is a big stream of income in South Africa but cruises aren't really that popular I think. Nice to see the Norwegian flag on the stern. At first I didn't see any of the passengers waving, like they were being snooty or something. But I did see a few later who were more friendly. Karen! Can you imagine how great the food is on that ship? I’ll be drinking espresso‘s all day. There’s no way I would go to sleep. I would get my moneys worth on that trip. These expedition class ships were very appropriately named to go along with their extreme travels. Polaris for the North Star and the Octantis for the star located nearly above the South Pole (Sigma Octantis).

They hit a bunch of different ports along the way. It starts in Duluth and it goes all the way to Toronto. Basically all the Great Lakes.

Good old Duluth had my heart broken there a few times while visiting. Would be nice to stay in Duluth for a few days then catch a ride on another ship. This is something cruise ships companies are looking into for why spend a few hours somewhere when you can spend a few days. Would love to see that happen especially the Caribbean.
