The 806-foot ship "James L. Oberstar" passed under the Aerial Lift Bridge as it headed out to Lake Superior in Duluth, MN!
Boat Friends, this video starts by showing you part of the Duluth Harbor and Superior Bay completely frozen over. There was ice as far as the eye could see! This is a sure sign that winter has finally arrived in Duluth, MN. Many people get excited when the ice finally arrives because it makes for a cool and fun-looking backdrop as the big ships move around in that cold water.
The James L. Oberstar made its way to the Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge with bright sunshine covering all parts of it so we could see the colors very clearly. Amazingly this ship almost broke the horn sound decbile record as well! You'll hear how excited I was to hear how loud the horn was and when relaying the reading from the decibel meter! That horn had such a deep sound and was very powerful.
This ship was carrying Iron Ore Pellets and I actually had a sample of these pellets for you to look at during the video. Plus you will learn what that large object on the hill in West Duluth is when you are watching these ship videos. It's called Enger Tower. You will see a few photos and I provide details about this tower to increase your familiarity with Duluth as you watch these ship videos in the future.
