Hi Mike, another top quality video. Can see the seasonal weather over there in Duluth. Wintertime weather creates a definite character to the waves and sea. ⚓⚓⚓🚢🌊🌊 MARK uk
Thank you for putting the fuzzy thing over your mike so that we can hear you clearly instead of the wind. And as always great job with the video. Don't stop. Thanks man
I appreciate you saying that. It does take down a little bit on sound clarity, but you’ll never hear the wind. It makes such a huge difference. It allows me to do these ship videos.
WOW that is tough looking lady of the waters. She looks very high and also looks like she has been around the block doing hard work for a long time. Awesome as always Mike. Thank, and peace!!
I love all the extras you give us. Surfers, lights on the shore, and all about the ship we are about to see. I even got to see my pilot boat and my tug.
I hope everything is going great in Italy for you. Wonderful hearing that you enjoyed the video. I will be out there live streaming this coming weekend. It should be fun. Still no snow on the horizon for us because of oddly warmer temperatures. I wish you the best. Wonderful hearing from you.🇮🇹🇺🇸👍⛴️
What a long bulbous bow. Not sure I've ever seen any other ships with such a long extension. Last year she traveled 75,000 miles which is the equivalent of about 3x around the world. Prior to visiting Duluth she dropped off loads in Cleveland, Milwaukee and Burns Harbor.
Nice looking Saltie! I don't know about you,I would not be thrilled only having one engine while traversing the worlds oceans. Have a good one Mike, take care and God Bless!!!❤😊
I hear you Scott. But the interesting thing to know is that most salt water ships are single engine, single screw. Luckily they very very rarely have a significant issue due to engine failure.
@@vibewithmike No back up engine. What they do have is a full machine shop with mechanics that can address most any issue. They also carry extensive extra parts. Unlike aircraft, at least they will never fall out of the sky!
I hope everything is great for you across the pond. You have a beautiful country and wonderful people. There’s also some great ships out that way. Thanks again for watching my friend.🇺🇸🇬🇧⛴️
@@vibewithmike Thank you so much 🥰. We do have a complex coastline with lots of ocean freighters but we did enjoy a small local dredger that would come right by us but that has now been withdrawn and our local dockyard is empty
Hey Capt. Mike!! Always a good sign to see the pilot boat going out. She looks massive even at a distance. Very cool to see the sneak peek of Bentlyville. I love seeing the tug waiting to assist the ship. MAN, is she ever high out of the water. That makes her look even more massive. That bow is very large. Great colors on her!! I saw the scrapes but they are from lots of hard work. Thanks for the video on this cool vessel. Hope you have a good evening. Chat soon. 🙋🚢
I cannot wait to show you all of those lights at Bentleyville. Think I’ll cool that will be to see that with a ship going out. That’s the awesome part from now until after Christmas those lights will be on so I’ll definitely be able to zoom in on that for you. I heard there will be a one percent sales tax increase now in St. Paul. Hopefully that’ll take care of the roads from what they’re saying. I hope you had a wonderful Wednesday. No snow on the ground here in Minnesota. Thanks as always for your awesome comments.
@@vibewithmike I will be looking for those lights from now on until after Christmas and will be very cool along side the ships. Yes no snow in the forecast yet.
Great video Mike! You always seem to all the action around the harbor, not just the ships. She seems to really ride high when unloaded. Don't remember seeing so much of the bow and rudder above the water before. Nice job, thanks Mike!!!
Great Video Mike That Is A Great Ship With Giant Cranes When Is The Holiday Lights going To Start We Are Having A Thunderstorm Go Through Battle Creek I Heard That The American Courage Went Aground On The ST Clair River Mike Have A Great Wednesday Night 😊

Great video Mike. Wow that was a tall ship. I kept looking at the bridge when the ship was going under it. Not much clearance there... LOL Have a great night Mike.
I really appreciate you taking me places I can’t travel to see all the interesting ships, have you ever videoed a ship being loaded or unloaded? I’d love to see the process in your area!
She is a massive beauty! Like being next to a skyscraper. Very unusual that bulbous bow. I'm certainly going to be more aware of that feature in the future. Polsteam does have some beautiful ships in her fleet. No wonder they're a fan fav ! 🛳💓💞
This bow had more of a pointy shape to it. Usually, I see those type of bows more rounded. It definitely was extremely tall. I had to look up but my neck could barely move any further as I looked up at the ship.
@@vibewithmike There are also other markers that look like a forwards and backwards E and a circle with a line through it which a called the Plimso line which show how deep in the water a vessel can travel at a given time of year.
Tim & Carolin! It’s an absolute pleasure hearing from you. I hope you’re doing wonderful today. They’re in Big Lake. I know there’s no snow on the ground. Part of me wants a little bit of snow on the ground for Thanksgiving. I think it’ll look beautiful, but nothing more than an inch. Have a wonderful Wednesday night my friends.

Do pilots get dispatched to all large vessels in this area like in NY harbor, and other places or do 'regular lakers' Like the Anderson that frequent Duluth get a pass?
You’re absolutely right. The regular Great Lakes vessels Don’t have a pilot. The oceangoing vessels Do have a pilot. Here’s the company that provides that service here in Duluth. Again, awesome question! www.seaservicellc.com/
@@vibewithmikeforgive me, but I don't know much about the subject and just discovered your channel - great work btw! - but is a pilot the tugboat that assists the incoming ship to the dock? Thanks and I look forward to more of your videos as I've just subscribed 👍
Gotta Love those Huge Salties! I forgot to tell you that the American Courage ran aground in the St Clair River near Marine City, MI yesterday they had 3 tugs assisting the Pennsylvania, Mantilou and the tenacious tug boats, they got it free finally today.
@@vibewithmike did you see that the American courage ran aground in the St Clair River yesterday near Marine City MI they had 3 tugs assisting the Pennsylvania, Manitlou and the tenacious tug boats, they got the courage free finally today.
@georgejones25270 I did see some information about it, but for the boat friends that did not hear about it, check it out right here. www.fox2detroit.com/news/american-courage-freighter-runs-aground-in-st-clair-river
Hey, check this out! This explain the Aerial Lift Bridge operations center. The small house in the middle of the bridge. That’s where the bridge operator controls it. This video brings you right inside. There’s a person in there 24/7 during the shipping season. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2tX8HfMTIO8.html
Looks like the Kentucky was bounced around a little bit. I'm guessing those are clamshell buckets for the cranes along the port rail. Not much water in those ballast tanks.
I’m really glad that you asked this question David. Here’s a chart that shows the depths around the lake and Anchorage area in Duluth. fishing-app.gpsnauticalcharts.com/i-boating-fishing-web-app/fishing-marine-charts-navigation.html?title=DULUTH-SUPERIOR+HARBOR+boating+app#11.63/46.7836/-92.0801/-46.1
Mike, do all the saltys have that odd looking bow ? That is very large boat and sitting so high in the water ... By the way, it was 84° in STL today. Chris
Now you have me thinking about ribs! Obviously, St. Louis ribs! Not every ocean going vessel has that type of bow, but the ones that do actually have better efficiency. Take a look at the information about this type of bow. It’s really cool and fascinating. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bulbous_bow
@@vibewithmike doing well here! I don’t have the boat watching opportunities like Duluth offers but I did get a 2-fer in Grand haven Mi this year, Great Republic and Mark Barker in port at the same time.
That vessel is travelling very very light right now. When fully loaded only the blue will be visible on top of perhaps a foot of red paint. The bulbous bow on large ships reduces "porpoising" a bowup/stern down-stern up bow down when running to head or tail seas. Increases fuel economy significantly. Its funny how mid size yacht builders incorporated the bulbous bow design selling the same benefit. Truth is on vessels less than 400-500 ft with other than deep draft displacement hulls, bulbous bows are useless.
Bluestar, you exemplify why people read comments. The type of information you are providing is fantastic. Thank you so much. I know so many people appreciate this. This is exactly how we learn. Great people like you. Thanks again.👍⛴️ boat friends, here’s more information about bulbous bows en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bulbous_bow
The air temperature is pretty irrelevant. I think the water temp topped out at 55 degrees this summer. Being out in the water anytime requires a wetsuit and a rather low IQ.
@ralphyboy3636 I looked at the extended forecast and it looks like it’s going to be warm in Minnesota for a while. I wonder if there will be snow for Thanksgiving, possibly not.👍⛴️
