Dear Valued Customer, Greetings! We are the official M-VAVE team. Regarding the battery issue, please rest assured. Our batteries have passed FCC safety certification, ensuring there are no fire hazards or other safety concerns. The current batteries have undergone safety isolation treatment. If you encounter any issues with the previously purchased TANK-G batteries, please contact the business for after-sales service. Thank you for your support and trust in M-VAVE products. Sincerely, The Official M-VAVE Team🤘🤘
It is not the battery that is causing the issue. It is the sharp points on the back of the footswitch that are puncturing the battery no matter how many FCC certificates it has. You need to fix the footswitch issue as shown in this video, or better, then release a video showing what you have done to rectify the problem. I almost bought one of these. I still will as soon as I see the issue is fixed.
@@wealthfinder192 Yes, it is not a problem with the battery. Even if it is punctured, there will be no safety hazard. The back panel has been protected.
Safe when poked through with a pointy metal? Mine had the same issue, the outer part of the battery was damaged... I didn't even use the pedal that much, I think the damage occurred already at the assembly phase... This is very dangerous.
I thought this video was going to be BS clickbait, BUT after watching this, as an electronics engineer by trade, I can say that this is 100% legit! I would go further, IMHO. 3:06 I would file down ALL the solder joints covering the area of the battery, put sticky foam over the entire surface of the battery AND put in a shim of thin hard plastic covering the area of the battery as well. The self-adhesive strip used for draught exclusion on doors / windows should do, and for the plastic guard, a piece of an old CD or CD case should suffice.
Thanks a lot mate!! I will pin your comment so people can take your instructions!! What makes me sad is that some people still believe it is only a clickbait by not understanding the potential risk of this defect! 🤦🏻♂️ Cheers mate! 🎛️🔥
I just checked mine, it's the Playwell version and good news is there was no battery damage, however, the contacts for the switch do need to be trimmed and covered. A little double-sided 3M tape and all is good.
Thank you VERY MUCH!!! Opened yesterday my Tank-B (the bass version of Tank-G) and it had the same flaw!! Dremel it and applied double stick tape like you did and it is now safe. I'll try to warn other RU-vid channels commentary sections to see your video!! From Brasil to Italy, grazie mille!!
Thank you for posting this. I’ve got one of these units and will check its condition and apply your solution as a precaution even if there is no damage. Very worrying that the manufacturer has not warned anyone about this so thanks again for taking responsible action.
I bought a Tank G from Aliexpress only 2 months ago. Just yesterday I decided to open it up as I had been aware of your video when I was looking at buying the pedal. My pedal now has a thick rubber pad over top of the battery and the solder is blunt. I can definitely see marks in the rubber buffer not just where the footswitch is but also along the front. My guess is because of the rubber there is no room between the footswitch joints and the battery anymore but this is much better than pushing down with your foot and pushing it into the battery. On a side note, I bought a Tube Screamer a couple years ago. As new made in Japan so I was stoked. When I played it there was no distortion. Only the tone and volume worked. Next time I tried it there was distortion and so it went sometimes on and sometimes off. After building the courage with the Tank G I thought I would open up the Tube screamer and have a look. I thought maybe a dry solder on the gain pot but when i opened the pedal there was a tiny piece of a foil candy wrapper sitting on the board touching some of the solder contacts. My uneducated guess is this is the culprit and I couldn't see any problem with the wire to the pot. When I put it back together it works fine. So now I just need to use it off and on and see if I fixed the issue. It's good to learn how to set up your own guitar and to at least be able to look inside pedals and amps etc. Very interesting.
I've just checked and fixed mine. It had dents in the battery pack, but not punctured. I would note that a 1.6mm or 1/16" allen key is a better fit, but 1.5mm works if you're not too heavy-handed
Thank you very much. This is very important. After I opened it, I found that there were traces of solder joints on the battery. It is very dangerous. I have handled it according to your method. Thank you for your reminder.
It might be a smart idea too to replace the battery if you notice that its wrap is punctured or the unit was behaving weirdly due to this issue. there's always that non-zero chance that the jelly roll of the cell (that's literally what the internals are called!!) could have sustained damage that could result in future internal short circuits and fire if it hasn't already. The cell you want to look for is a type 755060 and the capacity should be 3000mAH... Although you could of course opt for a smaller cell than this. The downside is reduced runtime but the perk is that it should be less likely to interfere with the pins on the board. Especially if you also add some foam to shim the cell away from the board and protect it.
Nice video! I ordered myTank G on June 22. After watching the video, I pulled it apart this morning and found that it already had A safety modification in place from the factory. How can M-Vave produce this unit, with this quality, at this price? Kudos to them.
Hey mate! The new ones come with the problem already solved, but anyway it is always good to check, as you can have received a piece that was long time in stock! Cheers mate! 🎛️🔥
Thanks for this important information. As it happens, I just got my Tank-G unit today. Tomorrow I will perform the step supplied in this video on my Tank-G. Again, many thanks!
I checked mine and not only were those pins already filed smooth but there is also a foam pad protecting it. I bought mine from Temu a couple of weeks ago. Looks like they have fixed the issue on later models. Now if someone can tell me they've used the software - mine won't install for phone or PC due to warnings saying the software is malicious.
Hey mate! It is true! They already solved in the new units! For the software, they are constantly updating it. I am a MAC user, so I will let you down on the Windows notifications... sorry for that!
Wow, thanks a lot man! Mine had the same issue. I'll give it another go with a better file to make it even smoother... the adhesive protection was a great call :)
My new Tank G v2 has a piece of 3M foam to protect the battery already installed. It looks to be effective as well, as I see no marks or anything on my battery. I just opened mine to take a look, so at least they have addressed the issue.
Exactly!! They corrected the Tank G and the same solution was applied also to the M-VAVE Blackbox! Anyway, it is important to check because some pieces cold be stopped long time in storage! Cheers mate! 🎛️🔥
I just took mine apart and it had the "vampire bite" on the battery exactly like the example in the video. I clipped off as much as I could from the protruding "legs" and filed them down as far as I could. I considered adding some hard plastic to the double sided tape, but there simply isn't the clearance in there to accommodate it.
The new models are already coming with the problem solved mate! But anyway... I suggest you to take a look, as some pieces could have remained long in stock! Cheers!
I was actually looking at this pedal, but decided that, for me, having individual effects was a better way to go. I'd really like to see a review of Donners multi eco and multi reverb pedals. I own them, and they remain slightly warm, not hot, even when they are turned off. 🤘
@@RiffsRigs That's what i figured I have no one to take it to, so i will try to contact Donner, or just replace them both I could probably unplug them when not in use. Thanks for the input !
Dear customer, regarding the battery issue, we have reported it to the technical department and made improvements. We are always committed to providing you with the best quality products and services, and thank you for your continued support and trust.
Thanks for the heads up. This is very important and someone can die. We see a lot of news stories about the scooter batteries exploding and burning down houses. Lets not have the music die as well.
there are a lot of solutions but from my perspective it is better to remove that battery and adapt an external power bank may not only solve the problem but guive more hours of use per charge cycle.
Thank you for this nice and straightforward review! 👍 This info is very useful and important to know... And I know this is a relatively cheap product, but I'm upset now knowing, that initially the battery was not placed within a closed, well protected, hard plastic cover by M-WAVE. I don't think it would increase the price that much, but for sure could eliminate the problem... 🤔 BTW... do you know, please what is the situation with M-WAVE's cheaper, similar multi effects, they sell for bass (blue), electric guitar (black) & acoustic guitar (light brown)? I'm planning to get those, they are about half the price of "Tank-G", have 3 foot switches, and the necessary "basic" effects... So they would be great, but I wonder if it is safe to buy them, or I should look elsewhere...!? 😕
Hey mate! They started correcting already this issue with the new ones! You should not have this trouble anymore... of course, you can be still unlucky to get a piece which was long time stopped in stock, but I believe the probability is pretty low right now! All the other m-vave products didn't show this issue. I opened the Blackbox and it had the battery between footswitches, so no worries (and also with the protection). The Cube Baby also was never claimed to have this issue! I hope it helps!! Cheers! 🎛️🔥
If you bought recently, there are big chances that it is already solved. M-VAVE implemented an additional layer of stick tape and a plastic protection! When it will arrive, open it and take a look, because if your piece was in stock for a long time, maybe you will need to solve it by yourself like I showed in the video! 🎛️🔥
We still didn't see how the Tank G or the Blackbox will react in the long run. At least we didn't find anymore cases of subtle death of the equipment, like happened in some Cube Babies! But... let's keep an eye on it! Cheers mate!
@@RiffsRigs So the situation is my cube baby will no longer charge but i removed the battery and direct its power using a phone charge's cable and adapter. Yeah it functioned but i can no longer use the direct to the phone recording and I can no longer connect the earphones since it makes a hissing sound rather than the guitar itself.
Oi Jorge!
I'm getting my M-Vave Chocolate Midi Controller today. Seeing that it also contains a Li-Ion battery, anyone got any ideas if one of its footswitches could also damage its battery? Thanks in advance!
It is a good question! I never heard of problems like that! I will open mine here and give a look, but I believe that the battery has a different placing in it! Cheers mate! 🎛️🔥
It confuses matters a lot when it seems like the most recent firmware update made the whole device act kind of funny. I use the Tank G as a headphone amp, plug pedals into it because it sounds convincingly amp-like. I don't want to spend much more on amp.
Honestly, as much as the Tank G is a cheap product, I wouldn't have bought it if I had known about this problem with the battery beforehand. Luckily, my battery wasn't punctured, so I took the necessary steps to protect it. But it is not correct that a product with such a serious defect is being sold without the company that sells it having so far made a statement about the problem and what measures it will take from now on to correct it. I like the product, but this battery problem made me never want to buy another MVave device again.
