Susan and I have been RVing for over 5 years now, and we have tried many ways to get internet while traveling in our RV. After a lot of trial and error, we are finally ready to reveal how we get internet in our RV while traveling.
We found some great RV internet solutions that give us reliable internet speed and connectivity while we travel around the country almost full-time.
If you need full-time RV internet access or you are a full-time digital nomad who needs a good internet connection, we have some great solutions. And some of our internet solutions are great for weekend RVers, too, who need a good signal to stream TV shows, RU-vid videos, or games.
0:00 Intro
3:17 Starlink Roam
15:12 T-Mobile Home
20:43 Verizon with Winegard
To order the Flag Buddy Pole Star Link Kit we mention in the video just click this link: amzn.to/45A5S7X

Thanks Mike and Susan! Y’all were the first RU-vid channel we subscribed to after getting our travel trailer April 2022. We replaced the cardboard StarLink box with a plastic box that holds everything just like the cardboard box - From The Container Store 61 Liter Premium Stacking Tote … Clear 17-1/2” x 27-1/4” x 12-1/4”h. It works great and the lid locks down (unless I forgot to stow the antenna properly 😜)

The wife and I have T mobile home internet too! It works great here at home and the price is locked at $50. We switched our cell phone service to T mobile and got the price reduced to $30! I have not considered taking the T mobile box out on the road. Thanks for the tip! We will give this a try next time out!

OMG thank you so much for this demo on hooking up Starlink! I was just trying to figure out an easier way to hook it up without going through the slide. I have a class C and had settled on using the upper bunk window-BUT now I realized I have a nice little hole where my electric cord fits through the bottom of the cargo area (in order to keep the door closed) and I totally can hook it up through there! I will just need to figure out the power. I am going to play around with it as it seems that I could just run an outdoor cord from the 120 outlet on the side into the cabinet...:) At least temporarily. Thanks again!!!!

Great Video, thanks for sharing. I have both StarLink and At&T service with a Winegard. Both have served us well. I put my Winegard in a cabinet with a cigarette lighter plug. this makes it accessible and easy to reboot. it works extremely well in the cabinet and does not need to be on the roof. This also simplified wiring it. It works so well that when we park it inside a full metal storage building with the doors closed, we still have great internet service. when there is no cell service, we use the starlink and we connect the Winegard to it like it is the park wifi and all devices connect to the Winegard.

We run three websites (RVBlogger.com, TravelTrailerPro.com and MotorhomeFAQS.com) , a Private Facebook Group called RV Camping for Newbies with 121K subscribers, our RU-vid Channel with 180K subscribers, 4 weekly Newsletters with over 140K subscribers, and all of our social media accounts. Great video Mike and Susan! You may not remember me but we met at the Hershey, PA RV show a couple years ago and I’v watched a lot of your vid. But even when we met back the I was still on a wait list for Starlink. Now however, I’ve retired and the $150 a month is not really in the budget along with all the other expenses especially since my business no longer necessitates internet access. I’m glad it has finally worked for you guys and I’m sure it is working for others a too. I’m going to share your vid with our friends in OK since they may be able to use it too. Take care guys. For your Winegard, put a remote switch inline to be able to power just the unit down.
@RVBlogger
@RVBlogger 27 дней назад
That is a great idea! One of the other problems with a Winegard with a Verizon chip is when you change the Verizon plan mid month to get more Gigs you have to power down the Winegard after changing your plan online. The only way I can do this currently is to cut all the power to the coach. That switch is a great idea! Thanks for watching and commenting! Mike

@@RVBlogger the T-Mobile has been good from Wisconsin down to New Mexico! We did have issues with it while at the Balloon Fiesta during the day, and guess it was because of the large amount of people there clogging up the cell towers. Yep- Winegard is the worst. We had to keep rebooting it. The other problem with cellular based internet, as you mentioned , is that it might not be available. We just bought Starlink. It is extremely expensive, BUT, it is reliable, and we don't have to worry anymore. We both work while traveling so it is VERY important that we have internet. Now, we can go wherever we want. Thanks for the video!

Great video. It's nice to hear from real life experiences rather than what the manufacturers want you to hear. At the beginning of the video you talked about upload/download speeds being important to you, but you never mentioned what you were getting on each of the three options. Can you share? And while you never said it, it seemed pretty clear to me that you were excited about TMobile Home as being your favorite. Yes? Keep up the good work. Patti and Johnnie
@RVBlogger
@RVBlogger 8 месяцев назад
Thank you Patti and Johnnie! Sorry we didn't share speed test values. Unfortunately they are different everywhere. Today we are in Orlando at a site where T-Mobile isn't a great signal. People have actually moved to a different site to get a better signal. Our Starlink is 129.7 upload and 10.9 download. I have upload several videos to RU-vid with no problem. Our T-Mobile was only 10.8 U and .3 D. If all we had was T-Mobile we probably would have moved too and got a better signal. I do love the service with T-Mobile but it does have it's limitations for service. Please feel free to ask any other questions. Thank you for watching Our Internet Solution video and commenting!

Great question. How is your internet service at home? Both Starlink and T-Mobile can be used at home or on the road. So there is the possibility of eliminating a cost at home when you are traveling. We love that we can pause Starlink and we love the affordability of TM. A lot depends on where you are traveling and how often you need internet. There is no contract with TM so you could certainly try that first and see how it works vs the $600 start up cost of Starlink. Thank you so much for your support. Interesting and helpful. Thanks! We are newbies, and definently not full timers. So far we have relied on our AT&T hot spot on my cell phone, mostly just to check our emails. I wonder how that compares? We recently stayed at Ft. Davis Mountains State Park, and currently, there is no internet, wifi, or TV signals available in the campgrounds. Supposedly available after January. We sat and read the owners manual. ;)

Thank you! So glad our internet options video was helpful. But oh no about having zero service and reading your owner's manual 🤣. That was our problem before traveling as much as we do. We couldn't justify paying $150 a month for Starlink and we hadn't learned about T-Mobile yet. For recreation we learned to pack a good book (kindle). For business we paid a visit Starbucks 🤦‍♀️. Thank you for watching our internet video and commenting!

Adding a Peplink B One to your Internet hardware list would be ideal it sounds like after watching your Video. This would allow you combine all of your internet sources in the RV into a singular router and have a singular SSID that your devices would then connect to. You can even prioritize which connection to use as the primary and if needed bond multiple connections together in a SpeedFusion tunnel for connectivity resiliency.
@RVBlogger
@RVBlogger 24 дня назад
The juice isn't worth the squeeze for us. If we suddenly loose internet while we are working it's not a big deal. And it rarely happens. We either have a good signal or if not. And if not, we just switch to another of our sources. Easy as can be.

Verizon update: We have an unlimited Verizon "home" Internet in our RV just like your T-mobile setup. The Verizon box is a cube a little fatter than the T-mobile tower, and about 1/2 the height. And speaking of 1/2, it's $25 a month. See you on the road. 😊

Excellent topic!! Would you recommend Starlink to those us who are NOT in need of the Internet to run a business such as your RU-vid channel?? As you say, $150/month is A LOT OF MONEY! Just as a ballpark estimate... What percent of the time when you are on the road was Starlink the ONLY method for getting online (ie., when neither T-Mobile or Verizon worked)?? And if you didn't have your online business, would Starlink be worth the price FOR YOU? Thx in advance for your answer. ❤😊
@RVBlogger
@RVBlogger 5 месяцев назад
Thank you! All great questions! We love Starlink and it is very reliable but....depending on where we are staying it isn't always necessary. Places where it is hard to get a cellular signal it has been a blessing! When we were in the mid-west it was 100% necessary for us. In Colorado we couldn't even make a cellphone call. Starlink allowed us to make a cellular connection. On the east coast not as important. TBH we use T-Mobile more than Starlink but that's only our current situation. The nice thing about Starlink is that you can pause service. So if we find ourselves in a dead zone we just reactive service for that month. I think if we were not remote workers we would probably just use T-Mobile. The lack of need for internet and the cost might rule out Starlink. (But my answer could change if my location changed 🤣) Hope that was helpful. Thank you for watching our internet video and commenting!

@@bigj5119 very interesting. We made sure to let our representative know we were RVers. There were no concerns.

Why not put the T-Mobile sim in the device in the roof?
@RVBlogger
@RVBlogger 2 месяца назад
Great question. The T-Mobile SIM card would cost $50/monthly for only 100G of data or "internet". Where as with the T-Mobile Home we pay $50/monthly for unlimited internet. We chose to keep the Verizon SIM card so that we can have up to 3 internet options in the event we are in an area with bad coverage. Not to mention, Adding and removing a SIM in the Winegard requires getting on the roof and installing the card, not something you want to do on a regular basis. Hope that helps answer your question. Thank you for watching our RV internet solution video and commenting. We appreciate your support!

Have you tried Nomad Internet?

We tried Nomad Internet in the beginning of 2023 just before their big CEO fallout. It worked well for that month or tow but we haven't given it a try since then. Things may have recovered but we haven't been following the company. Thank you for watching our Internet video and commenting. We appreciate your support!

One of our endeavors as Rvers is to eliminate monthly reoccurring BILLS! Americans continue to pay the outrageous prices these billionaires place on us. Paying $150 monthly for Internet is an oxymoron move for us! Thanks for sharing, but I can't consider this option as a solution! I hope this isn't another camouflaged advertisement.

So how do you get internet every day that works really great for FREE? Do you work full time on the road? Can you please share your solution? And we said in the video we don't make a commission from StarLink, TMobile or Verizon. Just sharing what we do.

@@mrfixit0067 that’s great if you don’t need reliable internet. It is certainly possible to live in an RV without internet.

Campground internet connection is not as good as two tin cans with a string, even the paid ones.
