As always a down to earth presentation. It’s nice to see a simple realistic conversion that more people can afford. The 0-60 in 4 seconds are awesome but way out of my price range and driving style. Once the market recovers for 60s Vw campers allowing me some space this is what I’ll be looking for. Any chance of a little off road video showing how real it is as an off-road vehicle. No need for sheep in the back and climbing a mountain. Just a bit of green lane fun.

Is that back box water proof? In a car like this it would need to be. I could see an unprotected contactor sitting in the open @9:51. Is that safe?

Yes it’s iso waterproof. All contactors are in that box so none unprotected

Last month, I purchased 4 of these from a classic car collector in Surbiton, Kingston. However, I think he’s got a hoarding problem because these were decaying on his driveway for the past 10 years. Since then, he’s got another 6 sitting on his driveway 🤦🏻‍♂️ I’m having the current 4 converted to EV and then sell on to farmers around the UK.

I always find it curious that some people think it’s grand to stick a petrol V8 in a Series 1, but it’s a crime to put an electric motor in it. Had I the spare cash to own a Series Landy, I know which I’d prefer.

Wait so there are live cables running under the car at all times to get to the contactors? Also the BMS that far away from the battery modules feels like a really strange choice to me.

Yes, of course. What’s wrong with original engine? Pretty much infinitely rebuildable, easily and relatively cheaply, certainly when compared to whatever this electric conversion cost. I passed my driving test in my S1 52 years ago. Still got it, still use it, still starts first time, every time, and has had nothing but basic maintenance and tyres in the intervening period. Why vandalise a nice old historic vehicle like this? How are you going to drive it across Africa or even up a Scottish mountain with that pathetic range? It’s a completely pointless desecration of a lovely old machine, a great deal of effort and a load of cash and what has been achieved? You now can’t use it over any reasonable distance off road, you’ve blown a load of cash and time, why do it? Would you put a quartz movement in your Rolex, or a set of powder-coated tubular legs on your antique mahogany dining table? And it seems that the converters are intent on vandalising more vehicles. Depressing.

I hate to be "that guy" but this isn't Tesla powered. It has Tesla battery modules. If you put a Ford fuel tank in a Camaro would the Camaro be Ford powered? No. OK, I'm over it. Sorry.

There's a certain irritating "flexibility" to the phrase "Tesla powered", it could refer to Tesla betteries powering an off brand motor or a Tesla motor powered by off brand batteries. I don't object to being "that guy" and I do like some consistency. My idea of a Tesla powered car is SuperFast Matt's Tesla powered Jaguar Mk V saloon. Its battery modules, motor and some of its drive electronics are from various Tesla Model 3 cars.

@@darwinskeeper421 I built a Wrangler with a Model S motor and Model S batteries. THAT is Tesla powered. It's only "Tesla powered" if the source of POWER is a Tesla motor. Tesla batteries are a source of ENERGY.
