We don't build this system anymore, the market has moved towards higher range, higher power systems- so we now only offer 55kWh or 110kWh with the 280hp Tesla Model 3 Motor.
Fantastic. How much can it cost to convert my landrover defender 110 petrol engine. From the tutorial there seem to be no Hi & Low range. I come from hilly side Taita hills in kenya. To finish up the hill at times am forced to use low range in order to finish up hill depending on load i have carried is this ev strong enough to climb up steep hills
Its £60,000 for the conversion kit. There's no hi - lo, but you don't need it due to the amount of torque and power you have from 0rpm anyway. You will have plenty of power to get up the hills, its 280hp.
So you are telling me that it's not practical to charge at home because I will have to wait 2 days for it to charge in which 2 days I won't be able to take a bath because if I switch on the boiler I risk burning up the house and it's not practical to charge at the gas station because I will have to wait for hours and pay more money than what a stock Defender would need and probably not match it's range or fill-up time which is 2 minutes. So your Defender is worse than the stock in every aspect except drag racing which clearly is not what this car is made for. Oh and I guess I lose central locking differential too?
Not really, the point of this video is to prove that if you get a 7kW charger installed at home, EV driving is the future at £7 to do 300 miles. If you can't charge at home, then it's not. Treat your car like your phone, charge it overnight at home. They've all got central LSDs, not locking.
Standard UK plugs, while 13amp rated (c.3kW) they are only rated for 10amps on a continuous basis, hence why properly designed L1 chargers limit current to 10amp (2.4kW) so about 2.2kW after AC/DC conversion losses.
Is there a rating for electric off road range? It may be a brick but there's little wind resistance at the speeds this is intended for. 400 miles could be days of driving off road and how much could a couple of solar panels supplement the range?
Off road range is better than on road, much lower RPM and as you say no air resistance. I don't think a couple of solar panels will help really - even if you only used 20kWh of pack every day, thats a lot of solar to catch it back up!
Hope you had a great birthday. Probably best not to recommend granny chargers, too many of those cause house fires. Of course using Octopus’s cheapest rate would take 3+ nights for a 0 to 100% sticking strictly within the 4 or 5 hour cheap rate limit. I’d have thought your customers would have three phase (and probably Solar and battery storage) which is probably the right solution for a 110kWh 110, I assume you can add a 22kW charger if the customer wants it. Merc G-Wagon is the other car with a bigger battery, uses a similar size to the EQS. In Moggy’s Britpart conversion video he mentioned that defender has a 110kWh package, Utd they also have a 165kWh option - that’s presumably the same as the one used on the 130 that went to Sweden
@electriccarconverts how difficult would it be followng a 55 kwh conversion to go to the 110 kWh at a later date. Would provision need to be made during the initial conversion? Also if the donor Land Rover has had a replacement galvanised chassis (Marsland or Richards) could that pose a problem? Thank you....Edit just watched your latest video and you answer the question about adding the second battery at a later date😀
Hi, our systems are upgradable to the 110kWh if you already have the 55kWh system. All the mounts are already there so that it can be added quite easily. The only thing to take note of is that we don't want to do it years and years after your first 55kWh goes in, because the front batteries will degrade a little and then not be in perfect sync with the second battery pack. If it was the case that you wanted to do it a long time down the line, we would replace the modules in your front box too, so in essence a full new battery pack. No probs at all re a replacement chassis, in fact our workshop jig chassis is a Richards.
Hi! I'm very exited about this kit! Do you deliver to Germany? And can it be built in by an ordenary workshop? I have a Landy dealer around here who mostly deals with refurbished Landys from Spain (Santana). Will this kit fit to those left steering models? And what would be the costs for shipping to my home? Greetings from Germany (Brandenburg)!
Yes we deliver all around the world. You will have to send the car for the TUV test however, this is not something we have experience with. Yes its also available in left hand drive.
Only just found your channel, one day when my puma engine goes pop I could be sorely tempted! I see you are using regen down hill, can you configure the amount of regen on a dial/switch or in the app/controller software?
This looks really nice! But how long will the gearbox last with this torque and power? I know from from other engine conversions the advice is not to go beyond 80 - 90 bhp because of the gearbox.
interesting video. been planning my jeep conversion and everyone telling me i need over 100kw to get over 100 miles of range. That didnt seem right to me so good to see a real life test. FYI probably similar results to my MG ZS EV so pretty good id say.
Landrover Should partner with this guy (If they're smart and no corporatives snubs) and make a Classic division for export, Brand new chassis and components but with ev power and classic looks. Their car sales will explode globally. Heck they could partner with tesla for EV motors and batteries, buying it in bulk directly from the gigafactories, this could impact for lower prices of each unit. Remember that these guys assembly each part manualy and that's reflect in the price, although it is a reasonable price for a practically "hand made " EV.
Does the conversion retain the ODB2 port? If it does, is the Fellten system compatible with it. If so an app like car scanner ELM ODB2 could potentially give you info like kWh available, battery temperatures, energy draw, charging speeds etc. Something else you might want to consider if you are recording more driving videos is a window camera mount and maybe something like a gopro or pocket 2 camera and external mic (e.g. Rode wireless Go II)
Love the closing comments, more range than anyone should ever have to drive in a defender in one trip. Air suspension upgrades the next option to add then
Great conversion! Hope the price comes down somewhat 😉 So I ditch the original gear box and intermediate box. Do I get diff-lock also? I probably don't need low and high anymore, right? I have an 1985 110, with drum brakes in the rear. Should I do the conversion to disc-brakes on forehand?
