This week we explain the difference between the method of construction of our new boat, Strongall, and a tradicional aluminum framed boat. We explain about the advantages of building a metal boat using this interesting method, that was the main reason why we choose to work with Meta Yachts.
If you are interested in building a Meta 43DS Odd and want to know more about it, please email oddlifecrafting@gmail.com
We also show our workshop finally ready and the amount of things we were able to fit inside a tiny workshop and explain a little bit about the tools we have inside it thanks to all the partners we have for our projects:
@sikagroup
@Robland
@PIHERCLAMPS
@KregToolCompany
@famagwerkzeugfabrik3332
@Brennenstuhlofficial
We are Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dream. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons.
The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). The last season has been a dream coming true… we are exploring the Brazilian coast with OUR BOAT that we called Odd.. But wait? What happened to the house? Check out our website to know more about it www.oddlifecrafting.com/blog
We hope to inspire others to follow their dreams.

You will need a leaf blower because the first time you make sawdust, you will need to clean the workshop out. Otherwise, the sawdust will overwhelm you. The easiest way to do that will be to blow everything out through the front doors, and then sweep it off the floor in front of the workshop. It will also show you where you need to secure things you don't want blown away.

Yes, Roberta is correct about chines on a mono hull but not a catamaran. Many river jet boats are built like your new boat is being built and then they add stringers to protect the hull from getting bent because they usually hit rocks in the river and don't want to completely destroy the boat after the first rock hit.

Hi Guys, I hope you're both well, I would always prefer a thicker plate design to a framed one. I am so pleased that she will be a Hard Chine too. I guess that the TOF is easier to measure on the welds, with an unframed construction. If I was designing a boat using your method, I would insert various conduits with wire pulling tapes included. Deus te abencoi.

Great episode---love the pic of the mom-to-be just glowing with her new baby "loot". I'm still trying to figure out what in the blue blazes a "chine" is. . . .hmmmm, like a mini-keel? Your workshop is awesome and will remain so until the first moment that you use it, lol. Then the neatness goes out the window and dust, scraps, etc. get under the workbenches, in corners, and underfoot. Such is the life of a workman, eh? But the beauty and functionality still remains!
@clivestainlesssteelwomble7665
@clivestainlesssteelwomble7665 Месяц назад
A Chine is a sharp edged change in angle between the hull plates ...eg between the sides and bottom plates, a lot of traditional monohulls have curves all along the hull but power boats that plane need sharp chines and sometimes chine strips to throw the water passing under the hull out without dragging on the sides. Modern sailing vessels use chines because they give a more regular interior space and use twin rudders so the chine a bit like a keel gives more bite when heeled over. 🧙🏼‍♂️

Pretty much exactly like the metal version of a stitch and glue plywood, where developable panels form the shape of the hull. Looks much smarter than that mess of tack welds and impossible to clean corners in that other boat.
