We are Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dream. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons.
The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). On the season 4 we sailed for 2 years (exploring the Brazilian coast and part of the Caribbean), we sold our boat and we moved to Europe. The last season we are starting to build a new aluminum 43ft sailboat and a new life.
We hope to inspire others to follow their dreams.
SUBSCRIBE to our channel and join us every SUNDAY for a new episode of our journey!!

@OddlifeCrafting You guys should be learning to weld and work aluminum. As you build out your boat you will be very glad to be able to make small additions and modifications. Like adding a bracket or attachment. The project will turn out much better if you have that ability at your fingertips. Get a TIG welder and start practicing.

Spanish is my choice for a second language. I have Spanish speaking friends, and I'm planning encountering more Spanish speakers as I travel south on my sailboat. Those boats look like they are wide enough to fit my whole tiny boat inside athwart ship. I like the first one or maybe two that have light colored paneling on the overhead. I think I would like to try to do that on my tiny boat after I cut the top off and jack it up 12".

Oh my! I will have to watch this again and again, in slow motion. So many interesting details and features, but one cannot have everything! If it were my boat, if I were going to a broad spectrum of climates, I would have an enclosed, or semi-enclosed helm, much like the Amel or Beneteau. Insulated cabin, heater, air conditioner, air filtration, washer-dryer, upright refrigerator and freezer with extra units in storage area, dishwasher, induction cooking (no propane except for heater), access to cold weather gear, nav station with joystick for in-cabin navigation -- let's see what else? I like the light interiors of all the Dutch boats, especially the first one. Dehumidifier.

Torque tubes are also elastic in torsion. Torque tubes, Cable systems and Rigid pushrods all systems have best applications and there are 3 metrics to decide : 1 Number of linkages/parts from your hand to the control surtace. 2 Overall rididity (lock the handle, and apply a certain amount of force to control surface, measure deflexion) 3 Overall friction of the command. Cables are generaly better for long distances and were there are obstacles to avoid, and only when keeping cable sheath lenght to a minimum otherwise friction riseup. Torque tubes for small lenght, low friction, but need very rigid hull and complying bearings otherwise can be stuck by hull deformations. Most of the time rigid pushrods are the best of both worlds, except if you can't have straight linkages.

Such a wonderful thing but also a challenge. You will manage though being a good team and all. New boatprojects are also exciting and love the way you look around for inspiration and ideas. So keep doing what you do and thank you for taking us along on your future projects. Ps. Leave the backpacks in the cockpit next time visiting boats. The owner will thank you for that. Backpacks do tend to leave some marks in the interiors because of the zippers and buckles.

Wow, this is incredible to see. So many beautiful aluminum boats. Aluminum is for sure the best hull material for a boat and that's why I'm also going to build an aluminum boat soon. The Ovni 385 looks like your hull design and I love that transom detail on it. It's hard to tell which hull design I like best but I do like Distant Shores TV boat a lot. I actually like the look of the flat panel hull construction better than the smooth rounded look for some reason. I guess it's an easier way to build a boat and you can get out on the water much faster if you were going to build a boat from a set of plans and cnc cut files.

That silver grey is the colour cork decking goes as it ages.. it has a 40yr + life span and is light better insulating comfortable on the feet in hot or cold absorbs bumps if you drop your phones or cameras. Its Totally green.... as it regrows.. And theres no harmfull plastics or foam volatiles to de gas or shed nano particles. Take a look at Aluring artics Al boat ..the bought and rebuilt ..they are Finnish. Glad you got to meet up ...😂 The inside of their hull is cork sprayed..

ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HydIgUqHKkc.htmlsi=UGt5hdaZ_E_heilw we used cork on our van to try it out to use on our boat as insulation. We are actually afraid of having termites, as our boat is meant to go to warm places where we can find this bugs, so we are still not sure if we are gonna use it in the boat. Also it would be totally green if they didn’t require so much glue to make the recipe to be able to use it on the boat. If I’m not wrong the one the use at Garcia’s is 70% cork and the rest if glue. I do like the cork solution as insulation and the touch of it. ☺️

@@OddLifeCrafting Take a look at this architectural video.. on U tube about a cork clad house in Spain. It's Picked because it's fire proof , rot proof and insect resistant. I saw you do the Van the glues or resins used vary but in Cork roll and tiles a lot of the binding is from heating steam and just compression of grains to lock together. The sprayed glues and recycled grains can be natural as well. Any teak or plywood you use will also be more vulnerable to attack. Read the story of restoring the Wharram Pahi Spirit of Gaia by Hanneka Boone. Jame's partner and designer. I would ask the company that makes the cork sea deck what there experience is... as it's only 10mm thick exposed to the weather and salt and tightly bonded together I would bet that any wood pests would find it impossible to pretty unpleasant for even the smallest termites to get into and survive. @@OddLifeCrafting Guys every time I give you a U tube link to the actual use the comments vanish. Tried 3 times I know it's the platform but it's ridiculous. 🙄 So here's a Quote Does cork repel termites? Cork flooring also contains a substance called suberin that repels bugs, mold and termites, making cork naturally anti-allergenic and insect repellent. Suberin also helps make cork both fire and water resistant - which means cork can be submerged under water for days without rotting!21 Aug 2017 There are many forms of sea decking based on cork but it's basically tougher than Teak and better insulation . It's even been used on spacecraft. 🌌😎 As firesafe non toxic insulation. It's made and fitted in the UK Holland France but as you speak Brazilian Portuguese I would see who and how much it costs straight from it's home country.

Bunk Beds: If you have bunk beds that fold up and out of the way (or can be elevated), then there is more floor space for playing, etc. Fold-up bunk beds are popular in RVs so you can view the many options by viewing RVs on manufacturers websites, or at a dealership or at RV shows. I think the U.S. manufactures the largest RV/5th wheelers so websites may be your only way to see the options, unless you visit the U.S. for an RV show. BTW: You can have fold-up bunk and elevator beds without losing storage, which is why viewing floor plans and taking tours (video or in-person) is necessary.

Wait what?? You guys were at KM 2 weeks ago?? I didn't know :-( I was there for half an hour in the afternoon, as I couldn't spare any more time from work. Ofcourse I paid Sheryl and Paul a visit, that was the main purpose of going to Makkum... But would have loved to shake hands with you two too. Well, maybe another time. Cheers, Bro

When considering that you are planning on living on your boat, it seems typical small windows are unsuitable. There are boats with nice windows which allow you to see out and permits alot of light inside. Put an extra 10 -15 feet into the hull so you can include more features. Washer/Dryer machines, freezers, tool storage, work bench, and room for baby. Also, I notice not much is allowed for ventilation, heating/ac, which is often an after thought. Keep everything simple.

Well, our budget don't allow a bigger boat, but we are having all you described on a 43ft 😁

Great video, as always. Thank you ! But there is one thing that left me thinking, all that spray foam. If you ever have to do any refitting and have to weld like on Odd. It will give you problems. If there is ever a fire on board and you have to rewire. Taking that foam out is a real headache. I think if you use soundproofing like on automobiles, it will be easier and less messy to apply. Not to mention, it's better in case you have to work or fix around it.
@jackdbur
@jackdbur 12 дней назад
The spray foam is to keep your sanity from the noise & make living inside it bare able temperature wise ! Otherwise sailing the noise would drive you crazy & the temperature would be all over the place (aluminium is extremely thermally conductive) 😮😊
@loco0351
@loco0351 12 дней назад
@@jackdbur I know but I still wouldn't use it. I would just use really good sound proofing like in automobiles.

@@loco0351 Unlike car insulation mats spray foam is 1 continuous covering giving far better results & it is easier to cut out sections of it than deal with the adhesive from the mats .
@OddLifeCrafting
@OddLifeCrafting 9 дней назад
We do understand the use of it as good insulation and to avoid condensation (as it's a continuous cover). We still don't know what we are using on our next boat as we do need some material to avoid condensation. We were planning on using cork, but we are also planning on going to places where there are termites and it can be a problem with cork. We still don't know what we are gonna use, mainly because of if we need to do any modification on the hull the foam might be a problem if we want to weld something.

Watching this I think of youtubers who switched to catamarans such as La Vagabond (now sailing a Trimaran), Delos (in the process building an aluminum cat), Ruby Rose, Sailing Into Freedom building an aluminum cat in Vietnam. Thanks for not building a catamaran because watching your build as it progresses will be awesome.

I know aesthetics are so subjective, but (lol), I thought a lot of the interiors that you showed were a little, hmmm, square. Almost amateurish, not in the finish, but in the form. Like a home build diyer who hasn't the tools or confidence to tackle compound curves.

Agree. And also nowadays some of the equipments are mandatory by the navy. We visited Joshua, that was built in the 60's and nowadays they are required to have some equipments. We even commented that during the interview ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qltXmwFy7D8.htmlsi=LWJD4qJwULb87Jl9
