@amanalam5277 One can carry any foreign currency out of India upto a value of 5000 USD per person. Any more than that will require a declaration to Indian Customs at the airport.

@sabinasuresh If you are buying currency from a money changer with online or cheque payment, then they will recover some GST as per government rules. As per my knowledge, the minimum GST on a forex transaction in India is Rs. 45 and the maximum is Rs. 990 up to a transaction value of Rs. 10 Lakh. Hi. Live exchange rates for Malaysia are not available, at least not reliably. But if you are going to a good money changer there, it will be ok.

@abhinavsrivastava5881 When I tried to buy USD in India, the exchange cost was higher compared to SGD. That is the reason I chose SGD. But sometime in the future, I will analyze other currencies, including USD.

Hi. It depends. If you can't get MYR at a good rate, then carry SGD. If you have Orient Exchange service in your city, try them first to buy MYR. Another option is to withdraw MYR from an ATM in Malaysia. Do a comparison of the cost for the different options and then decide.

@arunkumarbe Sorry I did not see your comment earlier. There is a really good money changer in India, Orient Exchange. If they are present in your city, buy from them. If not, then you can try to buy USD or SGD in India at a good rate, and change to local currency after going to those countries. @sunils2603 In Malaysia, they usually do not demand to see funds. And their policy is to consider credit or debit cards as valid proof of funds. However, in case the immigration officer is not sure about the actual purpose of the visit, they may do a detailed scrutiny. I always suggest carrying currency equal to 500 USD in addition to the cards one may have. I do the same myself.
