ℹ️ About the Episode:
Does anyone really need a reason to visit Hawaii? If so, we had two- maybe even three-good ones! Visit Carson, check off our 50th state, and ride to the top of Haleakala National Park.
This episode is a KYD Special. It's a bit longer than normal as we included both O'ahu and Maui in a single episode. You may know that our not-so-secret goal is simply to make you smile, and there is a lot to smile at in this episode: Carson's unique talent with his toes, eating Spam Musubi in the parking lot of Foodland, meeting Carson's chicken (hen, actually) named Kevin, and our first-ever snow cone review.

A little aviation history about Duke’s. For decades, TWA crews laying over in HNL would all meet for drinks after checking in at the hotel, and the tradition was to wait for the aircraft they brought in to depart for the mainland. Once the outbound crew flew past Duke’s and flashed their landing lights we would all raise our drinks and toast them. The tradition was to let the crew on the ground know it was safe to have a drink. The next night we’d flash our lights for the crew that brought our airplane in. I was beyond fortunate to have been a part of such an iconic airline with a rich history. FLY TWA

Fact about Pearl Harbor. After the attack, a new Admiral Chester Nimitz arrived at a very downtrodden base. He reminded them of the 3 mistakes that were made. 1 It was a Sunday, and most of the sailors were ashore. 2. The dry-docks were undamaged, allowing quick repairs, and 3 the fuel storage tanks up on the hill were also undamaged.

This episode had me reflecting on the choices my kids make for themselves. I appreciate the way you two roll with the changes and continue to support and love your kids. My wife and I are in a similar place in life with kids of the same age as yours. I also enjoyed seeing the Culver Shirt that Carson had on in the end. For me, the Culver gear is like an Easter Egg in a movie. Keep on Rollin'!

I lived there a few decades ago, and still miss it to this day. You visited nearly all my favorite places to go when there. The shaved ice there is something else. You were there in the rainy season, hence the cloud cover that usually isnt seen in most videos. I hope you enjoyed my home away from home in Oahu, I cannot wait to go back one day. Waimea Bay, Hanauma Bay(best snorkeling) were places I noticed you didnt mention but when you do go again I recommend those, highly.

I have a suggestion for you mark regarding your leg cramps. That will take take care of them from the start of this on period by yourself. Some celtic saltit comes either fine core sport course course. You put a teaspoon in a big jug of water. And you drink that while you're bike riding and actually drink it every day. And that will put all the minerals back in your body. It will prevent your cramping, and the salt will keeping completely hydrated. Celtic, salt is the best salt you can use. Next to that you can do redmond Real salt or Himalayan would be my third choice.

Aloha, I loved your Hawai'i episode. Most tourists ride a van up Haleakala and ride down on bikes, but you rode up! Amazing! Local people don't like snow cones. We have "shave ice". In Hilo they say "ice shave", but Hilo people are strange, they also say "cut short" instead of "short cut". 😂 Anyway you ask the question how they do it. The ice is literally shaved. When the Japanese migrated to Hawaii to work on the sugar or pineapple plantation, they brought with them , the shave ice machines. (Amoust other things like musubi, which is the origins of the spam musubi. Spam was introduced to Hawaii during WWII, we love spam in Hawai'i) But I digress. A block of ice is pressed on to a flat surface with two razor sharpe blades mounted at an angle so that when the ice block rotates over the surface a very thin layer of ice is shaved off the block, hence the name shaved ice, or "shave ice". In the old days when I was a kid, the machines were hand operated. I remember watching the operator ( usually an old Japanese man) open the freezer pull out a block ice, clamp it down on the surface with the blades and hand crank this hugh metal wheel on the side of the machine. It was a wonder to watch and with a wonderful treat on a hot day. Mahalo for sharing your ohana time. Next time when you're here for your anniversary, you gotta try the Ka'ena Point trial. Aloha
