Thanks to your videos, I've really gotten into windsurfing. I've learned how to get into planing, get into the footstraps, and now I'm working on improving my power jibe. And all of that in Leipzig! Thank you so much!

Fantastic tutorial. Well timed as well. I'm comfortably sailing in the harness but I know I should be planning sooner/easier. I'll try it next week out of the harness and see how go. Thanks Mario.

I recommend going a bit bigger. People get used to 3.5 sails in windsurfing schools. Go a bit bigger than you are comfortable about. Being a bit overpowered is good and on lakes that rarely happens for smaller sails. I got planing first on an 8.0.

It depends a lot on your weight and wind speed. For me at 67kg it was 5.4 on 16-17kts

The reason for the fabric sails in the school is that they are more durable and do not break often. So it's cost efficient for schools

I'd Say, harness very very first, then planing, then front footstrap and finaly the back one, but there IS really no need to rush this last step.

Hi Mario, nice tutorial. Thanks! I have two questions. If I go further back, I can't prevent the luffing. Am I too early? Do I have to get into planing first? And does the catapult come when the course is broad reach and the sail is too close? Two catapults last season have somewhat. discouraged me.
@MarioKuempel
@MarioKuempel Месяц назад
Hi, first of all, you will get to love the catapults... haha just always try to not let go of the boom. That can really help. Aside from that, try to do the squat exercise and go further back in small steps. Like this you will learn to keep the course of your equipment. You will have to learn to steer your gear in almost all positions, before planing will become easy to you. :-)

hey great tutorial im right on the edge of planing, yesterday i was out with some coaches 6-7 ms with a 4.2 sail im only 13 so it was a good size im soon getting a trapez so i can have bigger sails but the big question is, when i was out i caught a wave and im pretty sure i was planing, but i wasnt in footstraps or trapez so am i only planing when im in footstraps?
@MarioKuempel
@MarioKuempel 26 дней назад
No you can plane without foot straps, you did it!!! Next time you go faster and faster.. :-)

I am extremely struggling to get planning. Big sail 7.2, 15 nods wind and an ionic 133l. Nothing works. Still plowing the water. Moved the joint back and forward, nothing gets that board out of water. Feel the strong power from the sail, but the board is not rising enough. I weigh 75 kg. If you have any suggestions please give me some hints. Thank you!
@MarioKuempel
@MarioKuempel Месяц назад
You might need more wind. iSonic is also a very difficult board to get planning... there are easier choices. Look for a board thats a bit longer and it will work! :-)
@tiberiugabriel1
@tiberiugabriel1 Месяц назад
@@MarioKuempel thank you Mario! I tried also with larger boards and stronger winds, but as I said, the tail is plowing the water and creates huge drag. As much as I am powered up, as much is the drag.
@MarioKuempel
@MarioKuempel Месяц назад
@@tiberiugabriel1 Did you try the bending your back leg and straightening your front leg thing?
@tiberiugabriel1
@tiberiugabriel1 Месяц назад
@@MarioKuempel yes, I tried that also. I have been winging for some years and I have some understanding of wind and hydrodynamics. But this is getting frustrating, because I can navigate quite well with the windsurf equipment, but no planning yet 😃

@@tiberiugabriel1 while this is an excellent tutorial, I still believe you should watch the good old beginner to winner. I think probalby your sail is not enough in an upright position ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0pxoIB1RK-E.htmlsi=rVm8zDC0ftzzZDFs

In my humble opinion, you are over complicating, 2-3 years ago i learned a 14y old daughter from a friend to plane, she had never moved her both feed behind the mast before, she nailed planing first try. All is in the food movement and weight shift, the rest will follow automatically.
@MarioKuempel
@MarioKuempel Месяц назад
True! But keep in mind that kids, when given the right gear and conditions, learn almost everything in no time.. :-)
