Hello and welcome to SOUTHEND AVIATION!
Easily the most crisp Vulcan howl I have ever heard captured today at London Southend Airport! Easily up there as the best sound in all aviation, I mean it's got to be number one right? Southend's resident XL426 did a couple high power taxi runs today. I filmed her 4th and final lap round the airport, complete with a stunning howl and a wonderful parachute breaking as the cherry on top! Enjoy!

What a waste of fuel

Lighten up, it’s not like it’s coming out your wages 😂
@ramperryan
@ramperryan 2 года назад
The fuel is better being burnt than sat around being unused. Because the fuel that the Vulcan uses has come out of other aircraft. Which makes the fuel contaminated and can not be used in aircraft that will fly. So rather than let it decay. Why not make the use of this fuel and bring some history back to life. So its not a waste if you can use it anyway

I know that I'm late to this video, but I still think it's worth commenting this. I feel so lucky to have been alive when the Avro Vulcan was still airworthy. One of the fondest memories I have with my dad was going to the Air Tattoo in 2009 (I think, I was quite young) and seeing this beautiful aircraft roar across the skies of Fairford. I actually teared up watching your video, sir, I haven't been home in the UK for a long time, and I really miss my true home. Thank you so much for sharing this, this really made my day so much better.

Before my time in the army I served in RAF as an Aircraft Mechanic Propulsion, my last posting in the RAF was Scampton . I worked in MEAS that was the hangers where most of the engineering was done. All engine changes and second line serving after which we would go out to check our work, I have stood under a Vulcan and done adjustments whilst the engines were giving their best. I will never forget standing under this iconic aircraft at the time it was just another job, never ever considered it to be anything other than something else I had worked on glad I worked on it regardless of the pain.

This brings back happy childhood memories when attending the Farnborough annual air show. I remember seeing the Victor, Valiant and Vulcan bombers flying down the main runway in formation. Also I think there were some fighters in the formation. Wonderful.

I was at Brustem AFB in Belgium in 1964 where a Vulcan was upstaged by a Starfighter F-104G. The Vulcan did it's display, howl and all, and landed. The F104 taxied to the end of the runway, turned, went straight to max power, took off, did an immediate barrel roll.....and landed with metres to spare. The crowd went wild! I never saw this manoeuvre performed again in the many air displays I attended and worked in.

A personal encounter was at an air show some years ago when the stealth plane family were over from the US. I remember the Vulcan moment where we were thinking where is the next guest, only the bloomin Vulcan, she snook from behind a hanger behind us and climbed up howling into the sky. What a scary feeling that was, no doubt it would have given me the goose bumps. Feeling quite emotional right now.

I remember one of those taking off in the early 90's when I served in the RAF from Marham in Norfolk; I retired decades ago but I also remember the Victors were there as 55 Sqn then (tankers) and 39 PRU Sqn with Canberra, then Tornado (AC) 2 Sqn and 617 Sqn Tornado. We sat on the peri track with the amber lights going and I thought it would be good to have a laugh to see and feel the jet wash and go a wee bit further with the Victor; worst thing I ever did, the Landie didn't get blown over but we were blown out of it! Still, they were good days back then. The SATCO had a problem but it was what it was in those days....just having a laugh before Health & Safety regulations stopped it

I lived under the flightpath out of Waddo from 1958 onwards. I heard the howl regularly, and the house shook as they went over, but after a few years, I stopped noticing it. Visitors would shout "WHAT'S THAT TERRIBLE ROARING NOISE", to which we'd look quizzical and say "What noise?".... Then we had the AWACS. They were even louder

Now imagine 2 situations: 1. Autumn 1962 (!), parked at the end of a runway at Finningley RAF, with the engines turning 24 hours a days for 2 weeks, with a loaded and armed nuclear weapon, 10 second call and no recall... 2. Mid-1960s, with a 5th engine strapped to the belly - the testing of the RR Olympus Concord engine - it nearly did a back flip when the Olympus engine was switched on!

@walterkronkitesleftshoe6684
At my RAF basic recruit training passout parade at RAF Swinderby in 1984, as the parade was coming to its conclusion we were stood to attention and being addressed by the station commander. As we watched we noticed the assembled families on the viewing platforms all looking distracted, pointing behind us and looking away from the podium where he was speaking..... this was shortly followed by a low whistling noise, barely audible at first but very quickly rising, then to our shock and awe from behind us a Vulcan escorted by two Harriers passed directly overhead at low level, and within a second or two of doing so, all three pulled up into a near vertical climb, and I have NEVER experienced or should I say FELT noise like it !!! The very air around me sounded like it was being torn asunder like a roll of linoleum, my teeth & eyeballs rattled in my head and I could literally feel my internal organs quaking with the intensity of the sound... My words miserably fail to convey the utter earthquaking raw power of that monster, indescribably incredible.

The magnificent Vulcan was quite a sight in the late "60's and early '70's in the Omaha, Nebraska skies. They were frequent visitors to Offutt AFB, Nebraska and flew in the annual airshows there. I have some awesome pictures of them flying low, banked, and with the bomb bay doors open. We are blessed to still have a Vulcan at the Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum between Omaha and Lincoln. It is a fantastic museum with an SR-71 and too many other great planes to name. BTW, the Martin Bomber Plant was located at what is now Offutt AFB and is where Col. Tibbets came to hand select the B-29's used to end WWII. The planes from that plant were considered the most reliable of all B-29's. My beautiful Mom was a "Rosie the Riveter" there building the B-26's.

Got a chance to take a ride on the RAF Vulcan assigned to Barksdale AFB, Louisiana back in the late 70's. Talk about a steam-powered airplane. It seemed like it had guages and flight instruments right out of a Lancaster. But it was amazingly maneuverable for a plane of it's size and climbed like a homesick angel. But then it went into slow flight (relatively speaking) when it leveled off. A medium range bomber at best (see the remarkable and glorious story of the bomb run at the Falklands) and made a B52 look like a something from StarWars on a comparative basis. Brits were such a joy to fly with. Consummate professionals flying what should have been a museum piece back then
