What kind of tracing paper do you use? Any particular brand?
@JdmisEduSg
@JdmisEduSg 3 года назад
Hi Elizabeth, Tracing paper does not need to be thick but does need to be clearly see-through. I am not fussy with the brand as long as it is not too grainy which might make it hard to see through. The weight of the paper I use is 50gms but if you cant get the thinner paper then slightly thicker will do ie 60gm or even 80gm but the heavier tracing paper (which is usually called vellum) is not good for creative tracing as, the thicker it is, the more expensive it will be and we tend to use a lot of it! Vellum which tends to be much thicker (120gms) is great when used for colouring and for water colour since the thinner tracing paper tends to buckle under the water and does not stay flat.

@JdmisEduSg 5 лет назад
Hi Andy, We normally do a technical drawing to send to a factory. A 3D rendering is not necessary for the manufacturer as they work from the accurate measurements in the draughting. A 3D (drawn in one or two-point perspective) is usually only useful if you plan to present your jewellery piece in a competition or to a customer. I hope this helps and wish you well in your designing! Best regards, Tanja (Its me in the video...)

Can I learn jewelry design if I don't know how to draw?
@JdmisEduSg
@JdmisEduSg 2 года назад
Hi Dao Dao, Yes you can! Jewellery designing is a systematic process... I have many successful students who had no art background but were willing to take time and effort to follow step-by-step processes and practice. Sometimes those without artistic flair can learn faster because they follow 'rules' that ensure jewellery designs can be manufactured and that you will fit within your budget - where more 'artistic' people are not use to such a structured and careful way of designing... I wish you well in your jewellery journey! Tanja

I wished you talk about some measurements for the template, it's a bit hard to follow, you tend to talk a bit too much about the design and not enough about the template, maybe it's just me, I found it confusing and it was hard to keep up, there aren't many steps to follow you just manly showed yourself doing it and don't give much detail

Dear Flavio, thank you for the constructive feedback. This video was originally intended to be a refresher video for our existing students who are already familiar with the process, which is why the video was sped up. I will keep your feedback in mind and maybe produce a more b beginner-friendly version in the future. In our fully online Classical Jewellery Design 1 Certificate, I talk in more detail about the tools we use in the JDMIS Exclusive Course Kit, which includes the templates. In Module 3, I talk more about designing with gem stones with demonstration of how to draw guidelines with the templates. To show appreciation for your constructive feedback, we 'd like to give you Module 1 (worth S$200) for free. In order for us to issue your voucher, kindly visit the course page and submit the contact form with your full name and email: learn.jdmis.edu.sg/product/professional-certificate-in-classical-jewellery-design-foundation/. Cheers!
