Just found you and I am SO glad I did! You and I have a similar taste in books/authors, and how refreshing it is to hear you talk about books that are not all "new releases". And you're another Stoner fan... it seems to be not very well-known and I thought I was the only one who knew about it. I don't know how I discovered it but it's a tie for my #1 of all time. I will look forward to all your postings.
Hi, Vickie! Welcome! I'm glad you're here. It's funny you should mention Stoner because that book is going to come up again in a video I'm doing for this week! It was such a memorable read for me in the Fall of 2022. Wowza. Oooh, I have to know now what your other #1 book of all time is?
@@thelefthandedreader6632 my tie for #1 fave is Prayer for Owen Meaney by John Irving. Sometimes when I tell people that, they scoff because they say "it's a high school book" . I don't care what they say, I think it's a great work. Do you know it?
It's great to see you reading Virginia Woolf for the first time. She is my favourite author. My favourite book of all time is The Waves by Virginia Woolf. It is great to see booktubers in age groups above the age of most booktubers. I think life experience can influence how we respond to a book so it's interesting to see that from others in videos. I read To The Lighthouse (Virginia Woolf) for the first time when I was 21, and re-read it again last year at 43. My emotional response to it was so different. I sobbed in a couple of parts.
Hi! Oh man, Mrs. Dalloway. WHAT an experience that was. I began reading To The Lighthouse and have a "companion reader" that's so cool to reference alongside, but I didnt keep going. To The Lighthouse was a library book, so it went back. But, I'll get back to it. I'm more intrigued now considering your experience. Finding the booktube channels once connects with isn't easy, but when you do find a new channel, oh, what fun? I'm glad you found mine!
What a great selection of books - have so many I bumped higher to read soon especially Where Angels Fear to Tread and Trust (the Booker Prize also a great shove). Subbed and look forward to your book content!
2022 was such an incredible reading year for you, and hope 2023 is treating you well! The Pumpkin Eater has been on my list for so long and i must get to it! i recently picked up The Body Artist by DeLillo after having watched the film adaptation after having read the book years ago. reading Woolf for the first time really does something for the soul! i hope you get a chance to read more of her work. and i think i will read The Price of Salt for Christmas this year! thanks for bringing the book to my attention again! i watched the film ages ago, and really do need to read some Highsmith. a fantastic video! loved all of your thoughts on the books!
Nathan, thanks so much. Isn’t it cool when a Booktube video reminds of the books we’ve meant to get to & sometimes, we finally just go & pick it off the shelf. That’s what happened with me with The Trees by Percival Everett. Finally! I bet you’ll enjoy The Price of Salt.
Many of the books in this list are my favorites. I also read Stoner and Mrs Palfrey at the Claremont last year. Stoner easily belonged in my 2022 top 10. I found Stoner particularly inspiring. Mrs Palfrey was a lovely combo of heartwarming story and black comedy. The Price of Salt was a beautiful love story. And I gotta re-read Mrs.Dalloway some time in the future. I didn't make a "top books" video for 2022 because I wasn't active a few months ago, but seeing your video I think now is as good a time as any 😂
Hi, Sluggish Reader! Oh, I’m very glad to hear I’m in good company with Stoner. 😀 You know, as far as making a 2022 Favorites video, yeah, I think NOW is the time, even though we just got into May. Because…then by beginning of July or end of June, you can talk about your favorites of 2023 so far. You know, I’ve just remembered now that I need to do a Top 10 NON-FICTION faves from 2022. I’m going to do it even in May.
Good morning! Great list, I added a few of these to my TBR - we seem to have fairly similar taste. I loved Mrs Palfrey and Quartet in Autumn. I really love old lady protagonists.
So many fantastic books! White Noise is so good, funny, prescient. Are you thinking of trying Underworld? It’s one of my favorite books, messy and scary as well as funny and tries to encapsulate fifty years of American culture.
I loved listening to this, Renee, it’s so thoughtful! I am especially curious about the Hernan Diaz book since I try to read all the Pulitzer winners. By the way, I noticed a copy of the excellent Winifred Holtby’s South Riding on your channel banner! And of course Leoslittlebooklife wished he could have sat next to you when you went and listened to Hanya Yanagihara 😊. Lovely to see To Paradise at the end of the video.
Leo, Thanks so much for listening. I really hope you try out Trust. I’d love to hear your thoughts. Oh, yes. I believe you and Sarah from @hardcoverhearts read South Riding together? I saw her video, if I’m remembering correctly, and it got me excited again about it. Oh, Hanya Yanagihara. My mind was blown. Author talks are so much fun, aren’t they? Hernan Diaz is coming to town i think in the Fall. That’s one I’ll plan on attending. As far as Pulitzer Prize winners, are you planning on reading Stay True or maybe you’ve already started it?
@@thelefthandedreader6632 You remember correctly, Renee, Sarah and I read South Riding together and were both in love with it. I only read the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction winners, Stay True got the Pulitzer Prize for Memoir or Autobiography. So no Stay True for me, I really rarely read non fiction 😉
