my dear friends, something that has caused me a lot of grief in my life is pursuing perfection. Historically, I have set such high expectations for myself and felt disappointed when I fall short.
When many of us enter the health & wellness or healing space, we become overwhelmed by all the things we're learning. We become overwhelmed with the information about toxins, diet and brain-body connection. Many of us feel a responsibility to ourselves to have a perfectly clean diet, to be perfectly non-tox, to meditate the perfect amount of time and do all the wellness things perfectly every day. For some of us, this brings out our perfectionism characteristics and we believe we have to be perfect in order to heal or be healthy. We believe that then if we're not, it is our fault. Some of us feel guilty when we can't be perfect. Some of us develop fear around the things we are trying to avoid.
Some of us will have other people say (either online or in person) well, "Of course you're sick you do...." or "You eat...." or "You're not ....enough". Or "If you only did or didn't do ......." then you'd be healthy. Some of us say these things to ourselves. Some of us are so harsh to ourselves for not achieving perfection.
the truth is a sudden huge life change in so many areas is often too much. The truth is, that a good and full and joyful life is not dependant on doing everything perfectly. The truth is healing is not dependent on perfection. The truth is we can become content with imperfection
So take a breath, and while you know the impact that certain things can have on your body, remember the impact stress can have on your body. The stress can often be worse. So sometimes we have to do our best and leave the rest. We have to do what we can and leave the rest. Sometimes it is only in our capacity to do or not do some of the things and leave the rest. And that my friends, is often where we find healing and peace.
