Brother you got some tough soil down there. I’m sure a deep tilling will loosen everything up. Good spot for an orchard and many years from now you’ll be somewhat fruit sufficient for the family. This is actually a very quick and easy watering trick. I’m using 6 garden hoses to water my fresh trees. I’m lucky though we have a foot of topsoil and the rest is sand…easy diggin. We started our orchard with 22 trees 2 years ago and have added to it every year. Apples, pears, cherries, plums, chestnuts, walnuts. But you’re so right on…very hard to get now. Gotta have different varieties of each fruit too for cross pollination. We free range our ducks and geese in our orchard to keep the grass down, eat the bugs and fertilize. It’s working out great but still a few years away from getting a good amount of fruits. Great investment you have made. Cheers, Chad.

If you have another fence then place 1 inside the other about 4 feet apart. Deer can easily jump 4 feet but when there are 2 they get confused with the spacing and don't try. Set a trail camera and watch. If too close or too far apart they will but 4 feet is usually a sweet spot for them. If you have large deer, you may need to make them further apart. I've used milk jugs for watering but I used a string or twine to wick the water from the jug into the hole with the plant. Hope it works like you want it to!

Such a good idea, Mike ! Now you got me thinking about my landscaping in the front of my house and using smaller hidden bottles.

Thanks for the jug idea. As for the fence apparently deer cant gauge depth so if you had another poultry fence you could run it a couple of feet out from the first one so the deer hesitate jumping the fence. There's more info out there on that but it's a thought.

I would love to see more people trying the method of watering from beneath to encourage root growth and accelerate overall growth. You just drive a pvc pipe deep into the ground to deliver the water right where you want it to go. About 2 feet is above ground and you can attach a reducer to act as a funnel. I’m planning on using this method.

I thought of doing that later but was wondering how to attach the jug the pipe 👍
