This week in modern we make sure Richard's dream of ever having Jund be viable is completely dead AGAIN.

The fact that there have been so many banned cards recently that you can make a deck out of most of them is both funny and sad.

That smuggler copter with nothing to crew it is smooth.

34:00 that was the single most disgusting turn in all of magic. You gained 10 life, played 3 lands added 4 bodies to the field, dealt 7 damage and drew 3 cards. All with 5 mana at the start of the turn. Honestly now

the one thing i am always struck by is just how beautiful kaladesh's art was. attune with aether was such a pretty card

57:00 Nahiri ult to get Emrakul is very flavorful here, although Eldrazi and Omnath attacking together feels weird

I know that the Crew mechanic has been ridiculous flavorwise since its release, but Uro crewing the Copter seconds before it goes to graveyard is the next level of funny :D

This deck actually shows a really interesting thing about the cards Wizards has to ban from Standard these days. Interaction is very rarely bannable because in the vast majority of cases it only stops other cards that are already issues - the exceptions are interaction that completely and utterly take over a game on their own, like being turned into a 3/3 Elk for all eternity, or being a 7 mana creature that immediately ruins any reason to try to play big permanents of your own because it's easy to cheat out/flicker and suddenly swing the game. So you end up with this thing where Wizards has been trying to print "fair magic", which is what Standard is supposedly about, except with fair exaggerated to a ridiculous degree of value and doing everything at once, giving you monstrous engines like Uro that never die, gain life, ramp, are bigger than most creatures, etc, etc, or omnath, which gains life, ramps, wins the game, etc, etc... Or Field of the Dead, which just says "if the game goes long and they dont have land removal or a combo/evasion win, you win" The cards that weren't that good in this deck were cards that were banned just to punish specific decks rather than to be banned cards - Felidar Guardian being mostly just a 1/4 that could occasionally combo with Agent of Treachery or Omnath, Attune with Aether not doing all that much on its own, etc... Escape to the Wilds was good though here for the exact reason it was banned - it serves as an awesome top end for a ramp deck and the most dangerous cards here are the ramp deck ones. Is Omnath actually played in Modern Uro piles? I feel this is a spectacular showing.

Seems to me that to tweak this for proper modern, I might replace the copters, or some, with removal.

40:00 missed lethal. Could have discarded anything else, played guardian off of Omnath mana, flickered land for final 4 damage.

I want this deck to be the REAL big boss in the banned bracket after the winner deck beat modern jund.

wow, just imagine how good this deck would be if you took out non-synergistic banned cards and just left the core of omnath, uro, growth spiral, field of the dead, and fetches.

I feel like "Uro + Field of the Dead is good in modern" isn't *that* hot of a take lol. I do have a question for anyone who plays modern frequently, though: What colors do you feel Uro Field plays best in? I've built lists in RUG and UBRG and in a few games against Jund the 4C list felt better, but I'm pretty out of touch with the current meta and want to hear what other people think.

This is the perfect time in modern for this deck. Even some of the more agro strategies have shifted their decks to be more grindy, allowing for this midrange value fest to work against a lot more decks than it probably would have in the past

This deck definitely showed me why escape to the wilds should indeed be banned in standard

Just want to point out that the allied-coloured fetchlands (eg Wooded Foothills) are banned in Pioneer, so you have *that* going for the list as well. Love you Seth!

At 40:08 couldn't you have kept felidar guardian and cast it with the omnath mana and then flickered a land and won on your endstep? I know it didn't matter but it doesn't give your opponent another turn plus they couldn't interact because you had teferi

i would try fires of invetion in this deck i just looked and apparently not banned in modern, not sure what i would take out for it though, :edit: if you use felidar to blink it it might let you cast more cards as it is a new card, and may forget you cast 2 cards already maybe??

The big problem with this is they usually only ban one piece pf a deck. It's lucky that you have some synergy

I think scooping to blood moon was a little early. You have basics and they would have been on only red leaving them with only the TTB win.

I think game 2 vs Jund was an early scoop. You would've kept gaining life from Klothys and had plenty of blockers and outs to Uro and Escape to the wilds.

I know smugglers had to be put into the deck but it’s such a wasted slot in the main with nothing to crew it. Replacing it with rogue refiner or 3feri would be so much better because they actually do something and have synergy with cat.

To be honest Arcbound ravenger (It was banned in standard) seems better than copter as blockers are concerned. You then don't need to rely on another creature. Also if only skullclamp or jitte were unbanned in modern then you could run stoneforge mystic.

When Safron Olive says "Banned Cards," I keep hearing "Bad Cards" or even worse, "Bant Cards." I know part of his shtick is providing unorthodox pronunciations for mtgo cards, such as our friend "Bonded courier," but I can't tell if this is also intentional, or just me.
