Hi all! Please post comments, questions and anything else on your mind in the comment section! While I try to answer as many questions as I can, there are more questions than I can answer by myself so if you are someone who might be able to help, please do so! The community is so much better when everyone is involved and helping each other out. Our strength is our willingness to help each other! Also please feel free to like or dislike the video. Your feedback is always appreciated so that hopefully I can make my future videos the best possible! Thanks and happy studies!

Patrick, i just wanna say how thankful i am that you take your time to make these videos. Sure, RU-vid probably pays you to make these videos, but, unlike other RU-vidrs, you don't half ass your work. Great work, man. You've helped a lot of people get through their classes and you've kept me from failing calculus. You're work is not unappreciated. Love your videos man.

You can actually use the "LIATE" rule to figure out which is the u and which is the dv, makes life a lot easier. ( where L= logarithmic function, I = inverse function, A = algebraic function, T = Trigonometric function, E = Exponential function) whichever comes 1st in the order of the word L-I-A-T-E is the u, while the rest of the function is considered to be dv. This rule definitely simplified integration by parts for me since I had a hard time figuring out which is which, hope it helps any of you as well.

He isn't teaching calculus though, he's teaching techniques for calculation. There is a big difference between being able to calculate an integral and understanding the proof and general solutions. Sure this will get you through an engineering degree but good luck if you're a math major, as soon as you get into analysis and higher calculus/algebra you don't use computation, everything is proof based. Just using the general form here (∫udv = uv - ∫vdu) would immediately end in big cross through your work because dividing through by differential operators is mathematically nonsense.

For picking U and DV, the acronym LIATE really helps, and it stands for Log, Inverse Trig, Algebraic, Trig, and Exponential and if you go down the list and set the first one you come to equal to U and the second equal to DV it is a more solid way to chose the 2 variables

for help on when you are first starting out with the problem and having trouble deciding on whats u and whats dv, use the acronym L.I.A.T.E ('latte") Logarithmic. Inverse trig. Algebraic. Trigonometric. Exponential. now look at your problem and "u" should be logarithmic term, if there is no logarithmic term in your problem, look if theres an Inverse Trig term, if theres not go on to the next letter (Algebraic) and see if its in your problem. that is your "U" and the dv is everything else.
