in this story, after the death of his grandmother, atsumu struggles with and denies his grief. he feels as though he should not feel the need to mourn her, as she lived a long, happy life and died peacefully in her sleep. he cannot grasp that it is natural and perfectly fine to lament, no matter her cause of death, because his grandmother is very dear to him and he loves her.
with the kindness and patience of sakusa, atsumu learns how wrong he was in his thinking and, furthermore, that he has many people in his life that he can lean on in his time of need.
