I found at the dollar store, some square beads with letters to make bracelet. Instead of writing on the fabric, I just pin with a bead in it A B C D... It cost me a big 1$ .
I'm so relieved to know that I am not the only person who gets blocks confused! I'm making a quilt now that I've had to unpick more blocks than I care to admit because I sewed them sideways or upside down!!! I feel I'm in good company now my friend! Thank you for taking your time and sharing with us. 🇺🇸
No matter how I layout my top when I sew them together I usually get at least one out of place. Couldn't believe the difference in the layouts and using the camera is a great trick, thanks.
watching you from the beginning of this quilt you have given so many good tips and tricks and all that good stuff you do for us but as for a name I almost want to call it spring love for some reason it just looks like a spring love quilt can't wait to see what kind of borders you do
Thank you for all of the kind words Roxeanne❣️ I think I may do something a bit different on the borders for this one...still thinking on it...Great name suggestion too❣️
Beautifully designed quilt, Tracy! 🥰 Can't wait to see your finished work! A few years ago, I bought some painter's canvas boards at WalMart (a 3 pk about 16"x 20" in size) and covered them with white flannel, the flannel glued only to the back side of the boards. You use them just like your comic cardboards. Essentially, these are mobile mini-quilt walls and you use them to move quilt squares to your sewing machine. If necessary, you can pin the squares to the boards by inserting the pins ends between the flannel and board. Also, small pieces of painter's tape works very well marking quilt squares while on design walls, prior to sewing them together. Pieces of painter's tape can also be used to number rows and columns on quilt walls, too.
All great ideas Dori❣️ Thank you so much❣️ As I was reading your comment ...I had a thought...Maybe find a really big canvas picture at the goodwill and staple flannel to it and make a design board from it? 🤷🏻♀️
Great tips on organizing the sewing of the top. Very easy to mix up blocks or orientation. I usually sew blocks in long horizontal or vertical rows and put them on a design wall, bed, or floor depending on my location. I have to try the 9 patch method or combining sections to make it more manageable. I usually pin my numbers in the top left of block. Quilters do what is best for them. No stress on rights or wrong on your channel. Just a love of quilting and sharing your experiences.
The 4 + 1 quilt behind you is the one I just finished piecing. No two 4s are alike )) The multitude of 1/4 inch seams needed several more rows in both directions to make the size I need. I love how bright it is. Photo shows total random, no diagonal stripes. ))) Thinking to hand quilt it just inside the white ones and let the colors fluff. Backing is a tiny-tiny print of 1/8" scattered flower buds on black. Used up 8 spools of thread assembling. Binding undecided. Maybe just the backing rolled to the front. Very happy me. ))) I kept the blocks in order by pinning individual 4+1 on the flannel wall. Blue painter's tape on the top one of vertical row. Picked them up bottom to top PINNING them together in order. Important!!! make arrow paper at the top to show sewing order up or down alternating rows. This keeps the whole quilt from skewing that happens when you sew all rows together in one direction. 22 rows can be a lot of skew! By alternating sew top to bottom vs bottom to top, it lays flat )))))
You can also use flat plastic flower pins and number or letter them yourself with a sharpie marker. Cheap, easy, and incredibly helpful for me. I can’t believe how quickly I can get confused without them!!
I use the pins that have flat heads with numbers on them to keep cut pieces in the right order and cookie baking pans to transport. Tracey this quilt is going to be gorgeous. You won't regret the time and care and viewer suggestions you have put into it.
I just received my two FQ bundles of Sophie yesterday. They are even prettier in person! 😊😊 Love the tips and lessons in this quilt making tutorial Miss Tracy. I’ve never tried the black and white photo trick…I’m on it now. 😝 Have a marvelous weekend. 🤗
Tracy you so inspire me, I don’t have my sewing machine right now. But as soon as I get it back I intend on trying the techniques you have given me and attempt to make my first quilt. I think I am going to try either the fake piecing or a scrappy one. Will continue watching and sharing on Facebook. Take care Suzanne
Tracy, the quilt is beautiful. Loved this video. Can’t tell you how many times my hand gets bumped between design wall and sewing machine 😂😂. I have to use aboard that is larger than the comic board though and I put a pin on the side that needs sewing and clip the pieces together in order. Writing wouldn’t work for me; I’d forget and iron it off🤣🤣. For the rows I use the Gypsy pins that have numbers and letters on them. They stay on the quilt till it’s all sewn. Thank you for all your tips.
I've always wanted to make a quilt but still haven't done it. I finally figured out why. It's the thought of cutting out all those tiny pieces✂. So the thing for me to do is to make a quilt that has larger pieces to start out with. My goodness. Now my quilt making dreams can finally come true😊
Try sewing strips together first, then cutting segments. That way you’re not working with small pieces. Don’t be deterred-make a 6:46 quilt. You’ll be so happy you did.
Looking at it reminds me of strawberry ice cream, light coloured blocks being the ice cream while the red blocks are the pieces of strawberries 🍓 Plus the greens bring me back to summers-reminds me of grass. My suggestion is Strawberry Sundae 🍓🍦
Hey, Tracy! Thanks so much for sharing your great quilting tips! I have learned a lot from you and incorporated so many of your tips into my quilting routine! I'm wondering what table you have your Juki in. I have a Juki, also!
I move things around a lot in my sewing room LOL🤣 One day it could be on my wood work table from home depot...and another on my adjustable height sewing table🤷🏻♀️
You really have some awesome tips, and you are easy to listen to! I was looking on your videos to find if you made one on flying geese! Could not find if you have one. I’m doing The Lion and The Lamb and Geese everywhere! I was pressing open but found it was kinda bulky in the middle. I do have water spritzer small iron big iron med iron and every day iron . These darn geese are 2x3 1/2 Finally figured it out after making 100 practice lol 😂
I hope that pen's ink is not the type that comes back when the fabric gets cold. I was taking a class at the Calico Patch Quilt Shop where I had bought some new marking pens (that I could remove the marks with a hot iron). However, the owner of the shop did tell us to be careful where we marked the fabric; because, the marks will come back when the fabric becomes cold. As luck would have it, I got too close to my marking on one piece of my project and ironed off most of my marks. It was close to the end of our lesson for the day; so, I packed up everything and drove home. I put my messed up block in my freezer as soon as I got home. Days later I had some time to myself, so I got my sewing machine set up and opened my project box to get that block out (which wasn't there). I searched, and searched again. I thought I must have left it at the Quilt Shop. I then drove back to the shop to see if it was still there. It wasn't. I then thought that someone else may have packed it up with their supplies. I then decided that I had better buy another fat quarter of the same print fabric (to remake the block again). When I got to the check out with the fabric, I remembered where my original block was. It was still in my freezer. I didn't buy the fat quarter. I did tell everyone working in the shop that I remembered putting my block in my freezer to make the markings come back. Everyone had a good laugh. The marks really did come being stored in my freezer. I won two blue ribbons for that quilt.
First of all Arvetta I was cracking up while reading this freezer block story...this is exactly something I would do LOL🤣...So far I have no problems with marks coming back...but I do wash in warm and throw in the dryer til dry.... so that could be why mine don't come back? And look at you ...blue ribbons...such an accomplishment to be proud of ☺️❣️
The quilt is coming along beautifully! I mark each of my rows too, but I just pin them. I need to get one of them heat dissolving markers. I would love to know how you built your design wall. Have you done a video about your design wall. I have no clue how one goes about making a wall like that or how you keep your fabric pieces on it. It looks like you just stick them on, but with what? Would love to see a video on how to make a design wall. Please! 😁
There is a video on this channel for her design wall, I don't remember her method. "Just get it done" has one made out of a dollar store picnic table cloth. It is inn her dollar store deals video.
Christine...the board on my wall you can find here: amzn.to/3xMIxBH (but it's sold out...you may be able to find it in the stores though). I use extra strong stickies to make the cardboard stick to the wall. (the superboard is made from cardboard). Then I pin a large piece of flannel or batting up....and the quilting cotton sticks to it✅
This whole video series is based on being precise in the quilting process. But here's a video that goes a little deeper into cutting: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yu8KBsIDZ9o.html
Thanks, Tracy for your excellent teaching and tips. I love each video as it appears in my feed because I learn so much. Your humor and style makes me more secure in what I can achieve. ❤️🤍💙
Hey Tracy girl, are you aware that you are not using the quarter inch foot? You’re using the scant quarter inch foot which might end up yielding you a true quarter inch seam that allows for the fabric and the thread when you press it open
Would it work to put plastic wrap around cardboard. I get so much cardboard as I guess most people do and most of the time it goes to the trash. If you could cut the right shapes from cardboard and cover it with plastic wrap it would cost next to nothing. Just a random thought.
Could work Wilma....although the wet starch really doesn't bother the cardboard. And if you let the wet fabric set on plastic...will it dry?...Try and see maybe❣️
