Thanks! Yeah things have definitely slowed down with Horizon, but I still have lots of videos I want to make to build out my library of content and I figure it will all be relevant again when the PC port comes out (hopefully soon!)
@@ArktixOfficialyeah I'm hoping that the PC port will revive this game, hopefully it doesn't get overshadowed by some huge game coming out a day after the release this time around.
@@kjellbeats Definitely! Yeah I think PC launch will be pretty big as long as it doesn't get crowded out. If Elden Ring DLC launches around the same time I swear...lol
Low health builds are the definition of the whole “Call an ambulance! But not for me.” Just blowing yourself up, and running in on the brink of death, but still not dying. It’s an adrenaline rush that’s for sure! On the note of Overshield increasing max health, there’s actually another way to increase your Max HP as well, giving you a nice extra bit of protection. That is, Local Stew! With 20% more max HP, your low health threshold is also higher!
I generally hate and avoid "glass cannon" builds on all games. But you actually have me contemplating it. You are probably the only gamer who could pitch this to me.
It’s not a glass cannon build at all. You only gotta watch out for plasma (since the Vanquisher is weak against it) and adhesive of all things. Plowhorns drop me more than Thunderjaws with a low health build lol.
Just finished my low health UH NG+ run a few days ago, which i only started because of your last video. It was by far the easiest UH run I've done. Funnily enough, the only real time I had any trouble was against the Corruptors when you had to go into Thebes in the end game, because you're forced to wear a different outfit so you don't get the low health bonuses from the Tenakth Vanquisher armor set. This play style is definitely super fun.
Awesome! Glad you gave it a try. Yeah the Corruptors can be tough for that reason, you're forced to change your outfit and it's even to forget that's even happened. Glad you enjoyed playing around with low health!
I love how your still doing this game because there aren't that many creators who do this game and i love watching tips and tricks and lore on this game because this is i think the best game serious ever
Arktix! I would always avoid low health builds as I didn't understand them very well. Your top quality video has truly given me some confidence in them. I will give it a try now. I'd definitely love to see a video on dodging machine attacks. Maybe not all of them, the heavy hitters perhaps. Awesome video though!!
Thanks again for the amazing videos! I started this low health style for the first time after your last video (and with Paris' excellent document regarding), and the game is fresh all over again for me. I'm really amazed at how this game can be played in so many different ways, with so many strategies, with each machine being unique. Sometimes I hate to think of how many hours I've played since it came out, and the game just doesn't get stale.
Awesome! Glad you gave it a try and enjoyed it! Yeah there really are a bunch of different ways to play and it's great! If you hate to think how many hours you've put in, just imagine how many I've put in and you'll feel better 😂
I have an outfit for low health when I run out of berries and potions. It's like my back-up but watching this makes me want to mess with it more. Love your videos. Thumbs up as always.
This is great! Thank you for this, I’ve seen a lot of videos where people had taken advantage of the low health benefits but this explains it perfectly. I’ve been wanting to give it a try but the old-school gamer mentality of max health at all times always remains in the forefront. Lol! Great content, keep it coming!
Arktix! I've been running Aloy on a low-health build thanks to you, and it's amazing, but WAIT! thanks to superlative youtuber Mr. Clompers (seriously, watch his H:FW videos, he has the most ridiculous comedy combat) I now realize there's an _even more_ busted OP build! Here's how it works: the defense and ranged perks from the Machine Master skill tree _stack_ with the ones from the Survivor tree. Also, the elite weaves from the Burning Shores cover all three core low-health skill perks: ranged, defense, and regen. So you take the Tenakth Tactician outfit, one of the few you can buy outright in Thornmarsh, and put two Elite Low Health Ranged weaves on it, and now you're maxed out on defense, regen, and ranged from _both_ skill trees. Combine that with the ranged bonus from using the Defy Death valor surge and (if I'm doing my math right) you get a total of _85%_ damage reduction and _230%_ ranged damage bonus. And you regen back to 201 HP every 1.5s, _and_ you maintain mobility while doing things like reloading the Boltblaster, you aren't affected by tremors from Rockbreakers, you avoid triggering Stalker mines, and can much more easily dodge a lot of machine attacks (or just, you know, shrug them off since you're hardly taking any damage at all). The only drawback I see here is that you don't have Stamina or Valor buffs here, so you're not going to be able to use a lot of weapon techniques or valor surges (though you can use stamina potions for the former). I'd love to see you put together one of your tutorials to show how it works, because it's really fiddly (and now I'm learning how to manage a galloping Charger while shooting things, which is a lot more active and dynamic than I'm used to). Happy trails!
Yes, MA and LHD do stack muliplicative, but since you can´t mount everywhere, and mounting has some short comings in controls it´s less usefull then the raw number suggest, you still get easily knocked off the mount. And yes, weaves in Burning Shores are OP as is Frost^^
WOOHOO!! The wait was worth it! Getting back up to speed with uploads, aaand higher production value. You're on a roll! Are you glad that you finally got this video off of your 'to make' list? Looking forward to the next video :)
I just got the game recently and finished the main story with the help of these videos. This channel is phenomenal! Starting burning shores in the next couple days!
Awesome content as usual😊 I would also be interested in a video where you show interesting ways to replay the game! I mean by that like challenges, meele only play through or something else, just some twist on the base game.
No Rope, No Frost, No Sharpshot Bow, No Thoughend/Ranged Master is a good start. So is Melee Focus, which can also vary (usage of the Critical Strike and Co, Resonator yes or now). Stealth run, where you try to keep stealthly and stealth buff active most of the time. Using weapon you don´t normal use or use on that machine also spices things up and changes some views, like how valuable Reload can be on a Boltblaster if you use the Boltblaster as a general weapon. Limit gear runs are a mixed thing, Purple is no problem, Blue/green lacks options and may also vary if it also goes for coils/weaves/ammo/potions etc. The Trick is to find a limiting factor, it´s fun to work with, and not just "making it harder".
Glad I chose the right path! I mostly play on low health because of the increase to offense and defense and it's nice to know I'm not the only one who thinks the same (However, I prefer using 2 Cleanse Potions to balance other potions like the Overdraw and Stamina potions). Thanks for the guide too! ❤️❤️❤️ Also, I play with Mixed Gear or Infiltrator play style because of how it's useful to heal with Silent Strikes with Smoke Bombs (As long as you have enough resources).
At 25% HP with the 70% DR, your effective HP is actually at 83.33% HP, and you have a free regen too! It does look very safe compared to the bonus damage you get. Especially if it allows you to oneshot some of the threats that you couldnt otherwise.
I don't know if you or any other will agree with me here, but I really think that Guerrilla should release a patch that allows us to choose between having our smoke bombs being capable to heal us or not on the fly, I mean without having to reset the skills to get back to the OG smoke bomb. Just something simple as allowing us to craft "Smoke Bombs" and Healing Smoke Bombs" would do the trick...
Definitely. That’s actually how I thought it was going to work when I first saw the skill. I figured it would unlock creating a new type of smoke bomb. I agree that would be better. Or, allow us to disable 1 skill at a time…
Just started this game after loving part 1. What a game and your content goes together so well. ❤️ This low health build is pretty smart and looks really fun.
@@ArktixOfficialyeah not gonna lie I had no idea the low health regen perc even existed so everytime I got too low I’d just heal asap, now I know I can just wait it out!
If only they would allow us to disable the annoying red glow on the screen through accessibility options. This visually ruins the game - and for a game that looks this good it's really hard to stomach. Been trying to ask Guerilla to add an option to disable this for months...and months...and months. Seeing Aloy's low health animations constantly are also very bothersome...just hunched over and in pain all the time. Kind of just takes you out of the immersion of the game, at least it does for me.
Also noticed that the Valor values were wrong. But I thought that maybe it was something that I was doing wrong, and I also am more concerned about stamina than valor so I never really was fully concerned about it, but I guess it really is bugged. Yeah, low-health playstyle is the strongest. Because your offensive power gets so dramatically increased, and when you are at a skill ceiling where dodging attacks is a piece of cake for you, your offense becomes your defence because you take out enemies faster, it's pretty much the same for every game of this kind, God of War is the same as well. Only potions I need alongside the build, are stamina and ranged attack boosters. Damn, I still remember when it tooks 5-10 minutes to take down a Fireclaw or a Slaughterspine with basic equipment and low knowledge about valors and builds, and now killing even the Apex versions can take less than 10 seconds. 200 hours in a game can really make a difference. :)
Hello sir! I just want to say thank you 🙏🏾. I LOVE zero dawn, and I’m loving Forbidden West even more as I’m currently playing it. Your love for this franchise makes Aloy more exciting to follow because I can enjoy it with someone else. I’m definitely subscribing, and look forward to more content from you on Horizon. I’m almost done with the main story (it’s taking awhile because I have ADHD so I’m all over the place with my active quests) and I’m hoping to start burning shore this Sunday. I’m a big fan of the lore, so I might be reaching out about questions or thoughts about the story itself. Salute!
Thanks for the video! I watched your Machine Master tutorial a while ago and have been using that build regularly, I'll certainly give this one a try now, looking forward to the next one.
This video singlehandedly convinced me to make basically a 2nd loadout w/ the Tenakth Vanquisher outfit for boss fights to keep alongside my Quen Deadeye overworld stealth build
I love the low health build! I decided to change my playstyle in my next NG+ And it was amazing,I Don't have low health stamina since I have a ps4:( buttttt I am getting a ps5 early next year like maybe January-March so I am very excited to get it😅
While i love LHStamina, it´s only 25% of the current value, so at level 4 you get 5 stamina per second, now you get 6,25 instead. Meaningful but not critical.
I love these videos! Thanks for all the tips and tricks and information for Horizon and other games. They’ve help a lot while playing Horizon Forbidden West.
Hey arktixs I have just discovered a new overpowerd combo in HFW it requires 3 large stamina potions, braced shot and the radial blast valour surge (max level) you start of by using braces shot as many times as possible on the machine by using your stamina potions then get up close and use radial blast this will knock over most machines making an opening for a tie down, an escape , ammo crafting , trap setting etc it is extremely overpowered and I used it to beat a tremor risk in under 1 minute on UH
Don't forget to add in an overdraw potion for a nice boost! I stopped playing low health for a while because of the challenge to stay low, like how silent strike suddenly starts healing you even though the vanquisher has no silent strike heal skill. Plus flowers and other random times when I find myself mostly healed and I don't know why. I always come back to it when I feel like doing some serious ass kicking!
You probably selected SSH from the Infiltrator tree. Still heals you somewhat regardless of what you wear. Also goes off when you open metal flowers, doesn’t make any sense imo.
Thanks Tim, you're right, it is on. That explains the ssh issue. I have all turned on except for the ropecaster expert, I don't like that one for the exact reasons why Artix doesn't like it. @@tim.noonan
@@drummer9mm Yes, you can reset the skill tree and disable Silent Strike Heal, but I'd also recommend disabling Smoke Bomb Heal on the trapper tree for the same reason. I use smoke bombs a lot, and this skill will also ruin the low health strategy.
It is also pretty nice not having to think about juggling berries for healing during a fight (or replenishing them afterwards), your health just tops up automatically which for me makes things more focused, less things to divert your eye. So i even use LH when im using non-impact damage weapons that dont benefit from the LHR boost since im so accoustumed to the auto-heal. I came in to the LH playstyle relatively late, i just underestimated how much protection the maxed Low-health Defense skill provides at 25% HP. If i knew earlier that it was like playing with an effective health of around 580 HP for its 80% damage boost, with auto-heal maintaining HP to that 25% limit, i would have switched earlier. Even on UH there are only a few attacks that oneshot you at 25% HP with max LHD (assuming elemental resistance), and a good portion of those would have one-shot you at 700 HP anyway. I do wish reloading/loading a save wouldnt reset health to save me some self-harm. My favorite methods to self-harm to get below 25% HP is either the Wings of the ten with close-range coils, shoot a basic bomb at your feet once does the trick. Or a regular explosive spike from the Defiance with full 15% damage coils. Two explosive spikes from the Splinthorn spikethrower (15% damage coils) is good too, bit more wasteful but i always have it in my weapon wheel for knockdowns, unlike the blastsling or Defiance which i often would have to switch to.
This certainly was a good incentive to try it! I just started a new NG+ playground so I'll make sure to give it a go. This may even push me to try harder difficulties (although the lack of rewards from these, like there was in ZD, isn't motivating)
I just tried this build and it is better than the shield weaver outfit that we got from zero dawn. I’m using the war bow and it is giving me 500+ damage per regular shot. It is overpowered.
I've gotten pretty good at reading what a machine is about to do and being able to dodge the attack except for the dang rock breaker. It seems like every time I think that thing's going to go left when it's charging at me it goes right and every time I think it's going to go right it goes left so I always end up getting hit by some of it's hardest attacks.
I'm starting to feel really bad that Aloy's limping around, grimacing, and all her chatter now is about how she needs to lie low for a while to heal up 😢
I have always been a fan of low health builds in games... AC Valhalla, Fallout 4... but it seems like they never make it easy to set the desired low health threshold.
I would imagine that that extra 1hp given by low health regeneration could be to nerf this sort of build, by putting your health slightly above the threshold for things like low health valour, but still keeping it viable by putting the major thresholds above 25%
@@ArktixOfficial true. It could be just so it isn’t too broken, while still being a viable build, as low health valour could be very powerful in some situations, but this way it only triggers when you are not intentionally that low. It could just be a bug though like you said
For anyone else wanting this, you can go to settings, Graphics then turn off Vignette to disable the red in the screen corners when at low health. Useful when you are playing a low health build.
I have a question i know you are probably not gonna answer but isn't Second chance +2 rly good? i've only read the text and have not tried it out yet but it seems pretty op
@@Sparhawkew Not sure the exact chance, but a few of us have tested it out and it doesn't trigger very often. Not worth using in my opinion, but you could try it out if you want.
Would a low health build with the nora thunder warrior be better than with the tenakth vanquisher because you would benefit more from the perks on the nora thunder warrior
I only have 700hp at lvl 71. And damage reduce is 25% and below but Aloy always health above 25% automatically. So this ability cant proc for me. What am I doing wrong? Or is this only for burning shores?
Do you know of a way to turn off all the low health warnings like the red corners and your controller pulsing? Love the play style, just hate the warnings
Are you asking if you can use the low health build early in the game? If so, it would be challenging. You at least need enough skill points to unlock the low health ranged and defense passive skills, which will take you a fair amount of skill points.
@@ArktixOfficial yes, I was wondering if there was an ideal path to work up to the end game low health build from a new game. Like best armor along the way to the end game armor/coils etc.
Too be honest im a little scared it might make things a little bit too easy because of the MASSIVE dmg output? Maybe I should only use it on a ng+ uh run and not in my normal playthrough lol
I think I already know the answer, but is there any way to force Aloy to be standing out of a slide dodge? I thought there might be an option in the menu, but no such luck
I have a video that specially teaches how to slide dodge. Yes, you can stand directly out of it. Basically, you just hit sprint when you want to stand up. Don’t use the crouch button to stand up.
@@ArktixOfficial Great tip, I'll give this a try. Typically I do the slide and not the roll cos I don't want to be left crouching, but I'll try this out
@@ArktixOfficial works a treat, thanks. Another Q: do you get the same elemental buildup with warrior bow if you don't draw vs full draw? I like my WB for elemental application but not sure if I should always be trying to full draw
This seems really good for Ultra Hard where most things kinda 1 shot you anyway. EDIT: I guess you can't remove the low health indicator that is on the edge of the screen. Enough reason for me to not play it as it would keep bugging me.
@@ArktixOfficial ok so ive been playing it for a week and at first i must say it was hard not to heal. Sometimes i unconsciously heal which lead to my death. you need that 70% to survive Also if you want to play this build ill implore you to learn how to dodge properly those extra frames will save you and help pass the time to naturally heal. You don't really need healing potions the cleansing potions are key i now have a better grasp how this build works. personally i compare it as a software game: a beautiful dance of dodging and attacking. ill be experimenting with this build i bit more see if the heal bomb skill can be implemented and which other gear setup works
Seems interesting .... but I love the hunter playstyle too much. Stamina + concentration + valor leaves very little room for all the low health perks needed.
